This attractive volume of 200 recipes offers a complete cross section of Dutch home cooking, adapted to American kitchens. A whole chapter is devoted to the Dutch Christmas, with recipes for unique cookies and candies that are a traditional part of the festivities.
I found an old second-hand 60's version of this cookbook, and although the recipes aren't absolutely fabulous, they are good, and they brought back memories of dishes that I'd eaten in my childhood. My father was Dutch and I grew up eating many of the foods in this cookbook. It's a charming little book with lots of authentic recipes.
Aside from some of the more obscure fish dishes, I get the impression that early New England cooking was substantially influenced (or share influences) with Dutch cooking. Interesting.
Great little vintage cookbook with pen-and-ink illustrations and some cultural notes on life in Holland circa 1960. The recipes look pretty bland, but that's how I feel about most mid-century cookbook recipes, so it seems to be merely a sign of the times!
