I read this book 15 years ago and it forever changed my perspective on my finances. It was the first time I'd ever heard that more isn't necessarily more and it empowered me to live a more autonomous and self-directed life.
Offers a different perspective on how to strike a balance between saving and paying off debt. Some details are quite outdated, I disagree with some ideas, and some of the "real life" examples of goals to save for are incomprehensible to me. Overall, though, it is a refreshing contrast to other financial advice books.
Carol Keeffe's How to Get What You Want in Life with the Money You Already Have is not mumbo-jumbo theory and get rich quick scams. She shows you practical ways to save and spend, and how to re-prioritize your finances to put goals in their proper place - at the beginning. An outstanding read, and I even use a few of her tricks myself.
This is a very motivating book. I started putting some of the ideas into practice as soon as I had read the first chapter. We'll see if it really works. The author is still making a living as a motivational speaker. Carol Keeffe I wish she'd update this book with more realistic interest rates for our times.
There were some interesting tips and some controversial ones (pay only the minimum on your credit cards and use the money saved to put towards your goals), but I found it a little simplistic, overall.
I think that this is my favorite book. I read it years ago. I am still trying to acomplish a goal. Even a weekend in Vegas. I have saved some. But I have yet to have fun. So I will read it again and apply my knowledge.
