In this book, young readers can take to the road to discover lots of different trucks: a noisy dustcart, a big cement mixer, a tanker, articulated lorries and more. Then they can peep inside the cab where the driver sits before popping off for a cup of tea in a transport cafe.
Based on the fact that I was required to read this truck approximately 100 times in a row yesterday I think it's safe to assume P gives it 5 stars. (I would have gone with 3.5 myself...)
Tony Mitton’s Tough Trucks is a book of children’s nonfiction. In the book, kids learn about books that are different kinds of trucks and what they do. The trucks are all seen doing these jobs on a construction site in colorful, highly detailed pictures. The text is done in several lines of rhyming text on each of the book’s pages. Some of the trucks include dump trucks, garbage trucks, and tankers. Throughout the book, a cute, fun animal character works by the truck. Kids are therefore interested because animals use the vehicle. The end of the book explains the parts of a truck they have seen and what they do. Mitton’s book is an excellent way for children to gain transportation vocabulary and some real-world understanding.
My daughter and I have been working our way through this series, and this is the last of the books which we are able to borrow. It's a delightful series, going into detail with each vehicle, yet remaining accessible to young children. I personally have learnt a little from reading these.
My son loved this book. We ordered it on Amazon and read it 3 times last night. The pictures are great. There is a lot of detail in the book and it is what I would call a safe and appropriate read for a youngster. I am sure we will be reading it again tonight!

Tough Trucks by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker is a children's storybook in rhyme about big trucks and their functions. This book has fun illustrations and an enjoyable way of describing the trucks and the jobs they perform.
This review says it's a good book for toddlers but my 4-year-old loved it too.
Each page has a different type of truck on it along with a rhyme about that truck. It talks about a cab,big rig, garbage truck, concrete mixer, dump truck, tanker, CB radio's, and rest stops.
Some are basic, "Trucks are tough and sturdy. They take on heavy loads, then thunder on their giant tires down long and busy roads."
Some are specific, "A garbage truck collects the trash, grumbling down the street. It lifts the cans and empties them to keep things clean and neat."

My aged 2.5 child loves watching and talking about all of the big trucks we see on the road. This book is a dream come true for him as it shows pictures of a variety of big trucks and talks about what makes each kind of truck special as well as detailing some of the typical truck parts and amenities.
