Entrusted with a terrible secret by a powerful dragon overlord, Rose Knight Linsha Majere risks everything when a magical storm threatens all of Ansalon, shattering the precarious balance of power, and Linsha must embark on a perilous quest to save the city from an invincible enemy. Original.
As an avid Dragonlance reader, this is the trilogy that seriously sealed the deal for me. As much as I love Chronicles and all the characters in the expanded series after, I think I love Linsha the most - I find her such an engaging character and I've always wanted to be her. She lives life by following what she feels in her heart, and she faces her many struggles as an iconic female lead. I love that she is a Knight of the Rose, and I just immediately want to be her BFF. Varia is also wonderful, and the dragons!!!! The story is fast paced and engaging, but still light enough that I didn't get bogged down midway through it. This was my second read through, and it still remains one of my favorites of all time. I can't wait to read through the rest again!
A novel that takes place in the Dragonlance realm. This book continues the story of Linsha Majere who is a direct descendant of one of the characters in the original trilogy.
Linsha is a knight that is stationed in the Missing City. The Missing City has a metallic dragon as its protector and that protector is murdered. After that event, Brutes who are led by a blue dragon attack the city and all heck breaks loose.
This book had a nice pace with plenty of action. The action scenes are nicely written and I enjoyed these scenes. There are a number of different beings and creatures including ones from previous books that give this book a nice touch. Also, there is plenty of mystery of who betrays the main character and who is really behind this attack. This book is the first book of a trilogy and that mystery sets up nice for the next book. Even with this setup, this book has a conclusion and can be a stand alone novel.
If you are a fan of fantasy that does not delve deep into moral issues, this book is a nice read.
Mary H. Herbert is one of my favourite writers in the Dragonlance saga - and this book didn't disappoint. A short while in, I was caught up in the tale and just read and read and finished it in a couple of days. The female protagonist is the same as in an earlier novel, The Clandestine Circle and I enjoyed meeting back up with Linsha and her companion owl, Varia. In the part real, part ghost twin city of Mirage/The Missing City, Linsha struggles to overcome dragon overlords, invasion, loss of friends, ambush, attacks on her honor, prison - all in a days work of a female Solamnic knight from the Majere family. Together with friends from both The Legion of Steel, the city's Militia and a few Solamnic knights, she fights against the far superior invading force of Brutes/Tarmak. A light easy read - if you like the Dragonlance world, this is a highly recommended read.
Finished reading the first of the Linsha Trilogy. I have to say, because The Clandestine Circle and the first introduction of Linsha Majere was my first Dragonlance book way back in 2000, this book had a lot to live up to. While not as good as The Clandestine Circle, in my opinion, I love that we have more stories about Linsha. Since many plotlines and events were left unresolved, I’ll assume the next book solves many more mysteries than this one does. Overall, I really liked it. Seeing another part of Krynn during the dragon overlords’ rise to power was interesting, as was seeing a little more of the Brutes in action. I hope to read more about them in the rest of the series. And of course, Linsha and Varia were great!
Have really enjoyed reading about palin's daughter who is all grown up now and a solemnic knight to boot!! she is a woman of great courage but more so a woman of heart, that is why she is befriended by the lovely talking owl varia and so loved and trusted by her two dragon friends!! hated by her superior, imprisoned and tried and found guilty on a trumped up charge she is supposed to be killed but instead gets saved by some of her friends of the militia and some other great and courageous creatures like the centaurs!! dying to go on reading the next two books to find out what happens to the lost city after their dragon lord gets killed!!
It's okay. Set many years after the War of the Lance, apparently... and considering I haven't read any of the expanded canon of Dragonlance, I have very little background information about what the heck is going on. Apparently this Linsha woman is Caramon's grand-daughter? Something about a second cataclysm, big dragon wars, some other war with Takhisis... there's a lot of time spent in explanation of stuff like that, out of the flow of the story which is kind of unfortunate. The characters aren't bad, though. Fight descriptions are very brief and unsatisfying.
I enjoyed this book. A Knight of the Rose is stationed in a city where the elves had died and were ghosts in the city. Ruled by a Bronze Dragon everyone is enjoying life in a peaceful kingdom until a Blue Dragon named Thunder decides he wants all the Bronze has including the people and the town. War comes as all good Fantasy books have a war somewhere. It was nicely written though and it had a couple of plots that made it interesting.
Put off starting this series, because I saw it was set in a different location than where Linsha's last story left off, and I was mad that Crucible (who seemed tied to Sanction) would probably not be in this story. Was pleasantly surprised to find that he was mentioned in the first few pages, and then appeared to play a major role in the book. I was thoroughly entertained, and had a hard time putting this book down.
These side adventures can either be a hit or miss for me. I enjoyed this one Linsha is an interesting character and I adore Varia. I'm looking forward to see where this little trilogy is headed.
