A photographic tour of the Holy Land takes a close-up look at the sites sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims, tracing the history of the three faiths from their origins to the present day and profiling the key historical figures of each religion. 35,000 first printing.
Life was an American magazine published weekly from 1883 to 1972, as an intermittent "special" until 1978, and as a monthly from 1978 until 2000. During its golden age from 1936 to 1972, Life was a wide-ranging weekly general interest magazine known for the quality of its photography.
I love these Life magazine special issues, which read like picture/text books. This one is a look at the three different world religions that all have holy sites and rich history in the middle east, and how conflicting claims to this land have led to religious and civil strife over the centuries and down to today. One land, three beautiful faiths; it's a pity people can't get along better there. The pictures and information about this land and these three important faiths is very interesting and well-depicted here. There's nothing in great depth, but that's OK, it's a fascinating study.
I adamantly disagree with the author's theology regarding Christianity which makes me doubt his credibly on the other two faiths discussed and really in general. However the photographs were beautiful and it gave an interesting look at the modern day conflict and what helped lead up to it.
