2.5 stars Sweet book about a class performing the Christmas story. The littlest boy wants a bigger role until he understands that the star he plays is a large part of the story. Lovely illustrations. Text worked.
This little book is charming and wonderful. It is the story of Max, a young boy who is chosen to play the Star of Christmas in his class play. But he feels underwhelmed with his role; he has only one line 'Follow Me' so he wants to try to help with some of the other roles. But he cannot play Mary, and his purple trees are not appreciated. He does not know the songs. The teacher takes him aside to tell him how important his role is. The illustrations are colorful, bright, vibrant and very charming. It is a great story for the whole family.
The children are all getting ready for the Christmas pageant. Everyone has fun costumes and several lines. But the little boy gets the 'star' and only one line "Follow me" he was upset and felt he wasn't important. But he soon learns the night of the play that the littlest brightest star that shown in the night sky thousands of years ago was indeed had a very important role.
The book itself is not bad, it just was not right for my class. The majority of my children did not know anything about plays so they did not really grasp the concept of the book.
The pictures are nice and it would be better for kindergarten - 2nd grade.
