Many of the suggestions for growing younger and living longer are for people older than me. I found a lot of the material to be a wonderful reminder about what I already knew about life. But, I also learned a lot of new ideas. It's definitely worth the read and I found that a lot of it is geared toward those that are close to retiring. If you find yourself stressed out about a lot of things going on in your life, I suggest reading it. It will tell you what you already know but will also give you the tools you need to move forward with a change in your life. Definitely worth reading 📖 and referring back to over the years 📅 .

Nice read. Excellent points.I do agree with the author that one of the most profound ways to reverse aging is a spiritual one. The only people who have lived for 100s of years are the seers. When we stop abusing our body-mind and soul we never decay.If you are spiritually inclined and consider your body a temple to house your soul then this book is for you.
One error in the book that I hope Dr. Chopra corrects is on page 223 he says the second yoga is Dwarpa yuga, it is Treta that is the second yuga. Hope they correct it

The recipes at the end are not of much use but it was nice of them to share a few. I love to cook and will try a few.

It was a pleasant surprise that all the recipes in this book were vegetarian and very close to vegan. Usually the only non-vegan thing was a teaspoon or two of ghee - easily replaced by oil or Earth Balance or omitted completely.

From the introduction:
"... human beings are magnificently organized networks of energy, information, and intelligence in dynamic exchange with their environment, fully capable of transformation and renewal."

This book focuses on 10 practical steps to help reverse aging by making improvements to your physical and emotional well-being. Although proper dietary nutrition, exercise, and restful sleep play key roles, this book delves into other concepts like:
Perception of the body as a field of energy, transformation, and intelligence;
Body/Mind Awareness and interconnectedness;
Flexibility in Consciousness - embracing the unknown and detaching from a particular outcome;
Learning to reawaken your Creative Response;
Love as the essence of life;
Allowing the expression of your Youthful Mind.

Some good recipes included also.

This book offers an inspiring and holistic approach to aging. Chopra and Simon outline ten practical steps to improve health, reduce stress, and enhance vitality, combining advice on diet, exercise, meditation, and mindset. I appreciated the focus on both physical and mental well-being, and how they emphasize that small, consistent changes can have a big impact over time.

Some ideas feel a bit repetitive or idealistic, and not every claim is strictly backed by hard science, but the overall message is motivating. It made me reflect on my lifestyle choices and inspired me to be more mindful about aging gracefully. A thoughtful guide for anyone interested in wellness and longevity.

Interesting book about body-mind connection. Start with choosing your biological age (within 15 years) and as your mind sets on that number, you are making healthier choices with exercise-nutrition-mindfulness-meditation. Nothing outrageous in this book, a good read, and you'll find yourself being more mindful about your health as you read it.

Eat healthier. Drink more water. Get more sleep. Exercise more. For the most part the ideas presented are common sense. Eliminate toxins from your body, mind and soul. Make love the most important thing in your life. Maintain a youthful mind. Dr. Chopra presents his ideas as 10 practical steps and the first step is probably the only one that will stretch your imagination. I found it interesting. He shows us the Vedic Seers idea of the "subtle" body. "At a quantum level: a field of energy, transformation, and intelligence... inextricably woven into, and is one with, the energy and intelligence fields of the cosmos." Take a deep breath and as you exhale imagine that you are releasing atoms from every cell in your body and replacing, renewing, and refreshing them. Dr. Chopra says, "your stomach lining will be renewed in less than a week... within one month the cells will be entirely replaced and you will have new skin... you will have a new [liver] in six weeks... in one year almost all of [your body] will have been replaced... See your body as it really is - infinitely flexible, fluid and forever in renewal."

The book includes some recipes and I'm making a shopping list! I want to try his digestive aids - An Indian restaurant near us offers a blend of spices after the meal, just as he suggests in his book, but I've never had an Herbal Aperitif.

I have a few Deepak Chopra books and find them all to be very interesting and thoughtful and full of great ideas. I haven't put a lot of his ideas to practice on a regular basis (old habits die hard) but he's writing from a unique perspective of a scholar, a scientist and a spiritualist combined- which I tend to have most faith in that combo. It's a good 'mix' of these elements. You cannot have faith of spirituality without belief in Science and vice/versa (in my opinion)I believe we all have more control over our existence than science or religious scholars (individually) would have us believe. This is one book that illustrates this idea. Check it out.

12/16/08: My baby sis Amber gave this to me for my 40th birthday. Should I have been offended? ;) I'm already well past 41 now so I think I better get going on it soon. I realize anyone who knows me personally is going to be shocked that I've never read it before, but my youthful look and feel is just organic. (I so wish you all could hear me laughing out loud at myself after typing that sentence! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!)

01/24/09: I started and stopped. It appears that books that are telling me what to do are not high on my list right now.

I really love this book, but I've been "reading" it for a long time, swearing I wouldn't consider it completed until I could follow all of the suggestions offered (which all sound incredibily healthy and relaxing), but I just have not been able to follow through (which is why it's only getting 3 stars instead of my typical 4 stars for a book I love). I tend to get stuck trying to find time for 20 minutes of meditation twice a day - in my heart I really want to do it - in reality I have failed miserably (really more my fault than the book's).

A few years back, my Dad recommended this book to me. I remember him saying "age is just a number," and this book helps prove that point. As I approach 50, I decided to order it and this past year was able to read through the entire book and start working through the step-by-step process. Even though this book came out many years ago, so many elements are still relevant. It's also a great companion book to the one I also found this past year, "The Menopause Switch." I'm on my way to aging in reverse!

"Grow Younger Live Longer" starts with the mind set of thinking and acting younger. From this foundation Chopra builds in nine other useful tips. Deepak’s advise as you might expect is practical and spiritual. The book is well written, easy to understand and encouraging. It all starts with the statement "my biostat is set at a health xx years of age. I look and feel xx years old. I was both educated and entertained by this book.

It all starts with our mindset does it not? To be younger we have to know we are not old. That we are indeed young. That our body will take care of us if we take care of it. And then after thinking it, we must be it. Action follows thought. There is a lot of ogic in this book, as well as a lot of new ideas. Chopra shares 9 useful tips with us and advises us not just in a practical manner but in a spiritual one as well.

It's always good to take a break and concentrate one's reading on something about self-improvement and this work by Deepak Chopra fills the bill. It leads one to think more deeply about life in general and one's own life. Along the way it gives 10 steps to reverse aging, and who doesn't want that? Chopra discusses thinking, eating, nutrition, sleeping, and much more, all with a view to looking and feeling 10 years younger. Interesting.

A fascinating approach to anti-aging, it focuses on spirituality and life force energy, tapping into it, and having a young and flexible outlook on life. It also has some wonderful recipes in the back (the hummos is to die for, as my husband can attest!) Overall very inspiring, can't wait to read more of Chopra's work.

With Deepak Chopra I'm usually able to use about 50% of what I read and can discard the other 50% without compunction. That's how I'm reading this book. I enjoy the notion of resetting my biostat to the age I choose--and when I read Chopra's recommendations, almost believe I can do it.

Amazingly, I think I do, or at least attempt to, 90% of this. It's pretty much common sense, except for a few oddities. It's the basics for living a healthy and happy life with some mystic mojo thrown in for good measure.

Many interesting chapters - a ten step program to better health. Last 60 pages are recipes, so was finished as they are mainly oriental and different kinds of herbs and spices. Good book to have on your shelf for vitamin reference.
