This was more readable than I was expecting, but still not easy to get through. 17th Century writing just isn't my favorite. Earlier this year, I had read a historical novel about Jamestown. I was glad I read those two books so close together. Reading this made me appreciate how thoroughly the author had done her research. I was also able to pick out stories and information in the Narratives that I might have missed otherwise.

This is a book I would really only recommend for die hard history lovers.

The book is well composed and offers up information the reader may find interesting. I had to read it with a colonial understanding and an imperialist view to really see through the 17th century embellishment. A must read for history buffs or those interested in Virginia, colonization, indigenous cultures or British world views of the time.
