I really enjoyed reading about these unfriendly beasts who only stay with humans so they can get water from wells, which are too deep to get to on their own. If it rains in the desert, nomads often lose their camels, who no longer need them for sustenance or protection. Llamas are small and live in South America whereas dromederies (1 hump) and camels (2 humps) live in Africa and Asia. Some of these beasts have even been taken to Australia. Camels can store water for a long time but not in their humps. They do drink a huge amount of water at a time when they do manage to get a gulp. They don't lose as much water as humans or cows because of how they always keep their face towards the sun.

I found this book tough to read due to the format. The illustrations are meh, and the number of sidebars make it challenging to peruse. And what's up with the angry camel on page 15! That guy is nightmare fuel! lol

Dropping a star for the stating as fact that camels were around 40 million years ago, when that is clearly a theory and should be stated as such.

Although the title and cover do not invoke any excitement, the illustrations and text do! The writing is fun and informative. Even I learned some new things about camels!
