Who's Your Hero?: Book of Mormon Stories Applied to Children

Rate this book
Children's Book of Mormon Picture Book If you think children ages three and up should help more around the house, complain less while doing it, and have the courage to always choose the right, then this book is a must-have! Who’s Your Hero? teaches young children about heroic examples from the Book of Mormon, but even At the end of each scripture story, children will learn a timely, heroic lesson for today. For example, Ammon loves to do chores around the house (just like he loved helping King Lamoni with his horses), and Nephi doesn’t complain when it’s time to go to bed (just like he didn’t complain when his father Lehi asked him to do hard things). Family home evening ideas and activities are also featured. Who’s Your Hero? is ideal for starting children early on to love the Book of Mormon!

As a Christian and as a patriot, David Bowman glorifies his Savior and his nation through his fine art, his
books, and his motivational speaking.

His "Expressions of Christ" series is unlike any other Fine art depictions of Jesus available. His intimate,
up-close portrayals show Jesus in a variety of "real emotional expressions". Whether it is a tender,
compassionate embrace (Security) or playful laughter at the innocence of children (Innocence), David's
pastel drawings truly capture the indescribable love of our Savior. As one admirer put it, "In your art, I
love that Christ is smiling and laughing. He is so rarely depicted that way. Our home is full of His spirit
thanks to you."

David also writes and illustrates a variety of books for young audiences. Combining his cartooning skills
and his experience teaching at a high school level, David knows how to engage kids, pre-teens, and
teens with books that are both entertaining and enlightening. His best-selling Who's Your Hero series
helps kids want to become modern day examples of heroes from the scriptures. The Great Plan of
Happiness teaches them of God's plan for their lives and Dude, Don't be a Lemuel helps older kids and
teens avoid negative, faith-destroying attitudes.

In the political realm, David's latest work is quickly becoming THE Constitutional/conservative book
for young Americans. In What Would the Founding Fathers Think? A YOUNG American's Guide to
Understanding What Makes Our Nation Great & How we've Strayed, David uses wit, humor, and a
variety of visuals to skillfully teach preteens and teens alike the wisdom of returning to our nation's
founding principles, and in a way that they will actually "get it". Even adults will enjoy the simplicity
of its explanations. As Barbara Stowell, Vice President of Constitution Week USA, puts it: "I've learned
more from this book than all the other government and constitutional course material I've studied."

And David loves to teach! He speaks to youth groups on religious and political topics all over the
country. His fun, engaging style, on a variety of topics, helps motivate them to be all-around better
Christians and patriots. Your kids won't soon forget a David Bowman presentation!

David Bowman and his wife, Natalie, live in the mountains of Arizona with their four children.

My daughter, Avery and I loves this book. The artwork is great for kids and teach good Book of Mormon stories. Through the stories children learn about great values and how they can apply them.

I just wanted all my LDS friends with kids to know that these books are SOOO great. My boys absolutely LOVE them. The pictures are fun and entertaining while still EFFECTIVELY teaching kids how to apply the lessons we learn from our ancient prophets to their own lives today. My kids actually stay quiet and really listen when I read these. When we get to to the "How can you be like Captain Moroni (or Enos, or Nephi, or Ammon, etc.)" part - I can tell they are absorbing it and thinking about their own lives. I have seen in their behavior that these books are clicking with them. It is awesome. I highly recommend them. There are 4 volumes so far. Oh - I almost forgot - at the end of each story, there are 2 pages of ideas and helps for FHE.

We read this today and loved it. My children loved the illustrations (more than I did). These stories are great because not only do they tell scriptural stories from the Book of Mormon, but they devote almost equal time to the concept, "How can you be like this Hero today?" Scripture references are found beneath each page (we brought out our scriptures to get some extra detail). The picture of Laman and Lemuel helping Nephi build the boat is really funny. I would like to buy the remainder of the series, which I'll do as they go on sale (I think $15 is a little steep for paperback).

Love, Love, Love this series!!! Forgot to mention in earlier reviews.. that they have a section after each story (3 in each book) that helps with Family Home Evening! Also, one of the things that I love most about these books is that after each story, it has a section that helps the children apply the principles taught in the story to their own life.... ie.."How can you be like Captain Moroni?"..... Fantastic!!

Love, Love, Love!!!! this series of books.... Because of the creative ways that the author cartoons, he opens up the doors to talking about other things that happen in the scripture story that you are reading... My son recognizes the stories when I read them to him directly from the "Book of Mormon" now....

I love these books. The kids love these books. I love that the pictures crack me up too. I love that it tells the stories in a way kids can understand...and then applies it to their day. My girls will giggle rifling through the pages. They talk about the Prophets. They notice their behavior in relation to these stories.

This is the perfect books for kids to learn the BM stories. I love the comparison of Then and Now! It really gets the kids thinking. I caught myself saying the other day saying "is that being like Nephi" are you complaining. It really stopped them in their tracks and you could just see the wheels turning.
Thanks, can't wait to read the next one.

I bought theses books per my mom's suggestion and they are awesome. Daph liked them but my three younger kids loved these books. They are really well illustrated and the stories are great. AND the applied part of the stories really connects with the kids. I have had some awesome gospel center conversations that have been spurred by these books WITH my kids!

My boys love the illustrations and it has familiarized them with some of the stories -- I think these are great, especially for toddlers who aren't able to participate in adult scripture study for too long yet.

All 4 volumes of Bowman's BoM Hero set were HUGE favorites of my children. The illustrations are so fun, and my kids laughed at the often anachronistic humor (where else do Lamanites wear "Have a Bad Day" t-shirts and does Ammon wear a modern black missionary tag?). I also loved the way they directly applied principles to present-day situations.
