This book is a biographical story of a journey of a man discovering the history of the komboloi. The komboloi is a string of usually amber beads and is apart of Greek culture where it is used as a comfort toy. It has roots and developed from prayer beads of many other religions but itself has no religious purposes. It’s history is long and mysterious. The book reveals many things about the komboloi and praises it as something special. I am a fan of appreciating even the simplest things and using anything as tools to better enjoy life. The komboloi serves this purpose.

There are bits and pieces, stories and legends of interest in it. But for the claim to tell the history of the komboloi I found the storytelling too self-centered and monotonous. There is a lot to say about the komboloi itself, no need to splatter the valuable info into your personal biography. It was a disappointing read for a great story.

I found thus to be a very warm and charming little book. It makes me want to find a proper komboloi to replace the ugly plastic and chain one I've had for several years.
