The entire premise of this book is young children attend summer camp at Native American “themed” “Camp Weno-Wanna-Getta-Wedgee”. It is culturally inappropriate and downright derogatory. Frequent misuse of terms like “Chief” and “Tepee” are nestled alongside an incredibly inappropriate and offensive slang term for Native women. I cannot believe that this book exists freely to be read by children with no warning. My 7-year-old brought this home from school.

Even thought I first read this when I was very young and first rated it in August 2011, I'm upping my 3 star rating to 4. I gravitate towards this random bookshelf in the hallway of my house and it has a ton of forgotten books. I've been reading a bunch of them lately, so when I saw this, all the fond Zack Files memories came back. For a young kid's book, this was actually very clever. It's like a satirical version of all those old mystery series. I'll be re-picking up the ones we own, that's for sure. These take 10 minutes to read and they're just amusing!
I wonder if they're still being written.

Have you ever camped before?
