Born to an Indian chieftain and then sold as a slave by her mother, the pagan princess Marina becomes the fierce Conqueror, Cortes', concubine. Of course this is to the displeasure of the jealous yet gentle soldier Juan, whose fire burns strong for Marina as he watches the warrior Cortes possess the key to his Golden Empire -- a key he is determined to possess himself.
I am not a fan of historical fictions and this is actually the first I've read. This book is a superb!! I thought I wouldn't enjoy it but I really did. The way the story presented itself is beautiful. And you'll be able to picture it and feel the very emotions.
I love the character development and the conflict resolution. I learned so much from this book, and those are worth sharing.
We may not realize it not, but someday we will. What we go through today are beyond what we'll have tomorrow.

Living in Mexico for the last 13 years, I've developed a fondness for Mexican history, and this novel of historical fiction is fact-based and the story follows the actual history as much as possible, and the author's fictional additions fit seamlessly into the known facts. it's a rip-roaring story, made even more interesting with the author's imagined additions. I loved the book and recommend it highly.
