Arnie is sad because he has no grandparents to bring to his school's special celebration.

Boy, is he in for a surprise!

Cute story, but I wasn't wild about Carlson's artwork.

Arnie isn't totally thrilled about the upcoming holiday at his school, "Grandparents' Day."

What can he do when he has nobody to bring, no grandparents. Nor does he have any guests who have agreed to attend?

THE HAPPY ENDING STARTS EARLY, THEN BUILDS AND BUILDS

FIVE STARS for bringing sweetness and hope, raising up the ideal of community to support youngsters as they grow.

In particular I'd recommend this book for children who lack any active grandparent presence in their lives.

It takes a village to raise a child. There's no requirement that these upstanding villagers must be blood relatives.

A great example of how it takes a village. Arnie's Grandparents are gone for Grandparents day. As he tells the community about this, they gather together to all fill in as his grandparents.

An excellent vehicle to suggest becoming Grandparents by proxy, and a brilliant idea for children to see they can ask significant adults to fill a social role.
