She’s sworn off boys. He doesn’t have time for a girlfriend. The last thing they want is each other.
DERAILED Halston Greene’s crushes are legendary. Epic. But once she's made them hers—in a blink—she's sprinting for the nearest exit like her hair is on fire. When she suddenly finds herself once again miserably alone, she decides to take measures to protect herself…from herself. Her senior year will NOT be a loop of relationship lather, rinse, repeat.
Tae Lee is the Korean transfer student from Georgia. His quest to earn valedictorian has been the one thing to spark light into his mother’s bleak life. But the competition at his new school is stiff and he’s coming in at the start of the last semester. He’s never been afraid of a challenge. He just didn’t expect it to look like a girl with a mane full of red curls and a kiss or kill attitude.
Avoiding distraction is an art. Embracing it is disastrous. Derailed is the second book in the hilariously fun Dryden High Sweet Series by Randi Rigby.
Do you like friends to more? Second chance? K-dramas? Guy falls first? YA romance? Growth? High anxiety main characters? Crazy parents? Cameos from earlier books? School romances? Well, well, well. Read Derailed. That's all I have to say about that. 😉
Thank you to the author for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
- Halston is a little hard to follow - I love Korean food - this is very sweet - she's maybe not great at keeping to her goals haha - her parents. 👎 - does Ford get a story, too? - skin care. I should care about that - I like Kate. Her not-at-all-subtle hints - book boy - “Don’t think I don’t know this audition crap is just a formality. I’m warning you right now, if you end up being the new anchor, I won’t let this go. I’ll expose you and your lousy family in the press.” I sighed. “Didn’t I catch you reading a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People earlier in the library? Yeah? You might want to read it again. Maybe highlight this time. I’m told it increases your ability to remember the important bits.” 😂😂 - ew. Pickles and anchovies - Okay, maybe not necessarily her parents. But definitely Boyfriend Bob 👎 - well, this is falling apart -- in the story, intentionally, not the book. The book is great - the studying is cute - this tied up pretty well. Although I am a little curious about her mom - oh good, a sneak peek about Ford!
✮⋆˙𝗠𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 ✮⋆˙ ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25 ✮⋆˙ 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁 ✮⋆˙ This was fast paced! I loved how fast the chapters moved from each scene to the next. It isn't exactly five stars bc their was to many scene skips. ✮⋆˙𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 ✮⋆˙ Halston: I think she has bipolar or sum. I understand what she was going through with her mom but poor Tae fr Tae: my mans was so patient waiting for her to get back with him after she broke up wiht him so many dang times. we love a forgiving man. ✮⋆˙𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ✮⋆˙ MUAH. I love dual povs strictly bc of the mmc's thoughts about the FMC and how much ge loves her.

I wasn’t sure at first how I’d like this book. But before long I was hooked. The story moves along at the perfect pace. I came to love Tai even with his quirks and his somewhat troubled family. Hals is a force to be reckoned with. She’s got troubles of her own with her broken family. I was invested in their relationship and was cheering for them all the way. Derailed is a very enjoyable high school tale.
The first book in the series had me wanting more. And this book, well I wasn’t sure I could like someone who felt so superficial in the first book. But then I realized, this character was alive to me, and I needed to see what made her tick. And then I couldn’t put the book down.
With characters that you feel as though you know, this book is a delight. And the romance doesn’t hurt either. Can’t wait to see what else I can find by this author.
Literally JUST finished it, but you could take a gun to my head and I would not be able to tell you about the stuff in this book ngl- besides korean mmc and she loved korean drama, I think she was spoiled? Or at least rich? All I know for sure is that I was giggling and kicking my feet a few times OH WAIT she also struggles with relationships because of mommy issues which I get that can happen but imo it was just annoying
22.10.23 - ? paused at 39% Really enjoyed Dibs and even though I couldn’t stand Halston in book 1, I wanted to give her a chance to redeem herself in her own book. While I did get to know and understand her better, the story was kind of boring. I devoured book 1 in under 2 days, but this one took me a week to get to 39% and it just dragged. I didn’t finish before my KU subscription ended and when I renewed it recently I didn’t bother to borrow it again.
It was good! I read thee first book in this series and loved it a lot, this book is good but Halston is such a drama queen! In the first book she hardly acts her age and overall she is kind of a b*ch. But Tae I LOVE he is so sweet and ugh. yeah. Loved Tae and all the other characters but Halston was meh.
this book was way better than the first one in the series. it was way more understandable and less rushed. the only reason i rated it 4 stars was because some parts of the book were really boring but otherwise it was pretty good.
Derailed is soooo good. I love the struggle, like a game of tug-a-war. Halston and Tae are such amazing and unique characters, I definitely recommend. But I am more than just a bit upset that I could not find the other two books, Destined and Distracted by Randi Rigby.
Nothing like a YA book to get me out of my reading slump. I loved the characters very much and their personalities. The only thing I didn’t like was how adamant Halston was about Tae and his mom’s disapproval of her.
The first chapter was good, but after that I got bored. It’s a bit too juvenile for my personal tastes, and I was uncomfortable with the Korean fetishisation (someone’s race shouldn’t be on a pro/con list)
Halston is a relatable queen and I love her. I love how the story involved so many people and their families. It also brought in past relationships and characters and I loved that. It ended kinda fast and was lowkey kinda predictable but the epilogue was very unexpected and I loved it!
The romance was kinda confusing? I feel like it happened really fast and then was just GONE and then came back. I mean, Hals and Tae are really cute together but I didn't like this book as much as the first.
I probably shouldn’t have read this one since I didn’t like Halston anyways. A lot happened in his book I started to like Halstons craziness in the end ish. She spent far too much time avoiding Tae. He was sweet.
I've enjoyed this series, and was super excited to see book two came out. This is definitely a classic sweet romantic comedy with all of the elements I enjoy.
3 stars. This book was okay. I personally liked the first book better and didn’t really like the plot. I found it somewhat boring but it was still a good book.
