Wrapped in the arms of a vampire is not how Sylvia Ott thought she would die. Drained and discarded, her only salvation was the rare Night Flower. The magical plant resurrects her from the edge of darkness, but the price may be more than she bargained for.
Altyr Wymer can’t believe the girl he killed still walks. But she’s not just alive, she’s in danger of becoming a Hollow, a ghoul stuck in-between life and death who hunts vampires and humans alike. His only choice? Take her home with him to ensure she chooses the correct path of undeath.
Forced into servitude, Sylvia learns to live with her mortal enemy. What begins as animosity turns into something more, and eternity doesn't seem as daunting by his side. But the clock is ticking - they only have one moon cycle to choose her path before she succumbs to her ghoulish ways.
The moon is rising, but the shadows it casts are ever-growing. Dangers lurk just outside the gates, threatening to stop her from welcoming the darkness as a vampire herself.
This book was captivating, from the very beginning. The cover drew me in and the words kept me there. I loved that there wasn't any over complicated world building, it was an easy addictive read. The concept of the Hollows is different from any Vampire books I have read before and found it very interesting how the author work everyone into their roles. Can't wait for the next book.
I got this book free on a stuff your kindle day and it’s been sat on my kindle for about 2 years and wow I wish I had read it sooner. I really enjoyed this book and the magic system was really interesting. I love reading the differences of dark and light but this was in such a unique way!
DNF at 4%, the writing was too repetitive for me. This needed a solid edit from someone who understands passive versus active voice and the art of show versus tell.
This book is about (small summary of 1 sentence 😜) Wrapped in the arms of a vampire is not how Sylvia Ott thought she would die. (of course I read something else every now and then, of course) Of course, I was completely on the edge of my seat during this book. I thought this book was wonderfully written. And would definitely recommend it.
Wow, this book desperately needs an editor. The grammar is terrible and I only made it 5 pages in. 5 pages of the internal monologue of someone trying to scale a wall. Overly descriptive and what really made me quit the book was the kindle version is straight up missing page 6.
Sylvia is a gardener and finds a passage in passing about a flower she has never heard of before or seen mentioned anywhere else. The flower only blooms at night so she ventures out to find it. Out in the forest in the middle of the night she finds the flower and is soon after killed by a vampire that finds her. The flower seemingly resurrects her and instead of lacking emotion she is just like her normal self and is now bound to the vampire, Altyr, for siring her. Overall, I think the concept of the story has a lot of potential. Personally, the way it was executed did not vibe with me. I did not feel like there was any reason for Syliva and Altyr to be attracted to each other, other than magical bond between them. Sexual attraction, sure, but I did not feel like there was enough interaction between them to make romantic attraction. First Altyr kills her, then is just rude to her, then pretty much just ignores her except to watch her work at cleaning parts of his castle. I did not feel like there was any actual redemption to warrant her wanting to really be around him or anything more. He even refuses to tell her literally anything about being a vampire or a hollow that she has turned into. It simply did not make sense to me.
Anyways, I enjoyed it enough to finish it, it just wasn’t really for me.
I am so excited for how the rest of her story plays out! Stacy Stover’s DEBUTE NOVEL was so easy to get into and I devoured it.
I enjoyed the fmc pov and getting to try and figure out this strange new reality she’s thrown into along side her. I love feeling like I’m going along side the main character while still getting to yell at them for their choices as we have the bigger picture less emotionally charged view.
Like most fantasy girlies I love a good bond. I found the twists on bonds in this book very interesting. I had to keep remind myself that it was not a mating bond. Seeing how it was used for love and control depending on the person was very interesting. Can’t wait to see what depth and conflicting feelings these bonds bring to the rest of the series.
There is also a magic system! It focus a lot on balance of the dark and light in the long run. While neither I nor the fmc (or the vampires really) quite understand it’s full depth and ability at the end of the book, I’m excited to see how it plays into a war that is erupting and how out fmc takes to her unique abilities. Will she become a villain or a savior? And for which side?
I can’t wait to dive more into the world and see what kind of a badass our main character turns into!
What I loved: -vampires -Sylvia---super sweet MFC -the magical plant
What I didn't love: -too fast paced -not enough time spent developing the characters and storyline -little to no spice
What I want more of: -the hollows and how they don't all come into being the same way -more world building -Altyr (MMC) needs to get his life together, will he be passive or aggressive...pick a lane -just more of everything
I know there is a second book planned for release end of August of 2023 so maybe that will give me what I find lacking from this book. I wanted to love this book in its entirety but I found myself disappointed that the spice was lackluster at best and the characters have SO MUCH potential to be all the things, and they just were so disappointingly flat. I will definitely read the second book in hopes that it redeems this one. Vampires are one of my favorite themes to read because of the diversity of their portrayal in the books I've come across. I am still holding out hope that book 2 will make it happen. This book is good if you don't mind a softer vampire/romance open ended book for now.
Spice:2/5 Plot: 3/5 Character Dev: 3/5 Overall: 3/5
When I first started reading this book I loved it. I loved the idea of vampires being very unknown to the main character because I was learning with her. I loved that it went right into action too and I was hooked from the start. And who doesnt love a good enemies to lovers?
Then in the middle I got extremely bored. Altyr was extremely bland and the only chemistry between Sylvia and Altyr most of the time seemed to just be their mate bond. Sylvia hardly did anything while she was at Altyr's castle which made the story drag on even though it was only 350 pages. I was also becoming infuriated with Sylvia's actions because she was just being plain dumb by putting Lenora at risk at times. She did not deserve Lenora.
The end was very predictable and I pretty much skimmed through it because everything played out like I thought it would, apart from the cliff hanger.
I wont be reading the next book but the spicy scenes kept me entertained so its still a 3 star :)
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review and let me tell you I am in no way disappointed. From the very first page this book has me hooked. It’s different from your typical vampire romance books that include magic. Sylvia and Altyr have both been through a lot an have major trust issues. But what I love about Altyr (aside from him giving me Geralt - the Witcher vibes) is that he tries to make up for his actions. They had some serous chemistry. Sylvia, on the other hand had a lot to learn and was thrust into a new world over night with absolutely no answers and a lot of trust issues so while some of her actions are kind of questionable she has a good heart to go with it just not the right knowledge. I cannot wait for book two, just be aware this book ends on a major cliffhanger! So I hope your ready for that!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Blood of the Night Flower and I look forward to the next book in the series to learn more about Sylvia and Altyr's story. I found this book kept my attention throughout as the author engaged the reader quickly with the world building and complex characters. You don't always know what to feel because she has imbued her characters with real, messy, human emotions and thoughts which in my opinion shows real depth to her understanding of how people really feel. The author had me hooked within the first few chapters. If you like seeing things from both sides of the mirror and not necessarily knowing which side is good and which is not then this book could be for you... Plus the romantic elements are great too.
REVIEW Score: 3/5 POV: First Person Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Tropes: Creatures/Vampires; Religious Undertone; Fantasy/Paranormal
Overall all the details of the different creatures and characters was good. It’s what kept me invested. Also the mystery that lays behind Altyr kept me invested. Otherwise I would have DNFd this cuz omg Sylvia is seriously the worst. She reads like she’s supposed to be this stupid like 16 year old girl which she’s not. She’s an adult like all the characters but wow does she make some insanely stupid decisions. That are so unbelievably infuriating. Luckily book 2 is on KU so I will probably eventually read it but I did not like this book enough to want to go and read it now. 3/5
This is a book about Sylvia, who is in a relationship with an abusive vampire.
Altyr starts out by murdering her cruelly. When she survives, he convinces her that it was really her fault for being out at night. He isolates her in his castle, breadcrumbing her with occasional interaction, which he alternates with tearing down her self esteem. He proceeds to gaslight her into thinking she’s to blame for the dysfunction of his vampire world, which he then viciously punishes her for.
So let me just say that this romance leaves me feeling cold.
But the lore and the story is kind of cool. I was rooting for Sylvia, though I find these vampires to be wholly unsympathetic.
The premise of the book was very interesting and drew me in from the beginning, but there were some plot issues I will describe below. Outside of those issues, I did enjoy this book. I am looking forward to the release of book 2.
Spoilers!!! I felt as though the FMC and MMC divulged their trauma to each other quickly instead of the plot building up to the moment. There is also a point where the MMC tells the FMC to not let on that she is sentient, yet a couple chapters later he is bringing other vampires over to here for them to ask her why she is sentient. Those two things didn’t flow well for me personally.

This was an enjoyable book, and I’m excited to see where this series goes. I’m not typically one who reads romance stories, but I was hooked from the get go. The world was interesting, and I found myself wanting to learn more about how the magic works and to learn more of the politics between the vampires and Lightbringers. Central to it all is a well written romance as fate brings the human Sylvia and the vampire Altyr together, where Sylvia must navigate this new unfamiliar dark world while also trying to understand this new mysterious power welling up inside of her. Can’t wait for the next
I enjoyed the initial idea and the plot drew me in but this really feels like a first ever novel, like the author hasn’t written any fiction prior to this. The plot points come and go very quickly and a lot of the dialogue feels juvenile, especially some of the dialogue that comes from centuries old vampires. I enjoyed aspects of the world building and like I said the skeleton of the plot could be really interesting. I just think that the story could have taken more time to be fleshed out and the novel as a whole could have used more editing and some beta readers.
ARC reader. Enjoyed the story. The story covers two broken characters. Not the destroy everything broken, but one has severe trust issues due to trauma, the other has forgotten how to truly communicate. Altyr, I confess confuses me, he's set up from beginning as uncaring and cold, but quickly changes. I feel Sylvia's confusion on the changes. They both have a lot to overcome. Chemistry didn't feel forced. Though they didn't feel like lovers, but still in friend era.
I enjoyed the heck out of this. I was devouring it so fast. I kept wanting to read ahead to the ending because I was getting so invested. I’m glad I didn’t! That ending! Ugh! I was so stressed the last 50 pages but in the best way possible! I was tearing up! For me it’s a nice, good, fast read that kept me engaged and wanting to read more. There’s a nice bit of spice and some heavy themes, so check the content warning before as always.
Okay wow! I finished this book in one day lol and it was honestly not what I expected!! I was ready to read the second but then realized we wait till August :D
I really liked it. Like this book I would one hundred percent read again. Conflict and vampires and “I want to hate you but I really can’t” dynamic is what I got and love it. Looking forward to the next one, and the flower is a great role!
Got it on Stuff Your Kindle day. This was a quick enjoyable read for me. I liked how easy to understand the worldbuilding was and the concept of hollows is interesting. As a fan of vampires the story was very alluring to me. At times it gave me an ACOTAR feeling. I feel it could have more character development as well as more chemistry between the main couple but i am still willing to see what happens in the future with this series
This had such an interesting premise! The Hollows were extremely interesting and this world was like something I hadn’t read before so I was very drawn in from the beginning.
I will say the latter part of the book wasn’t as good as the first one. I think this book could have benefited from being longer. The latter part of the book felt very rushed so I wasn’t as invested as the book went on.
I still enjoyed it a lot and maybe I’ll even buy the second book!
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well described and the plot was well written. There were a few editing issues with the use of small letters in places that should begin with a capital letter, but these were minor and did not distract from the overall story. It ended with a cliffhanger though, which is not my favourite type of ending, but there's enough curiosity left in me to proceed to the second book.
I could not put this book down! I love the character growth between the two main characters. Sylvia reminded me of myself in a lot of ways and Altyr is just the kind of guy you can connect with. To see how their relationship blooms was really enjoyable and I think it’ll just get better in the next book. Can’t wait to read another!
Ok. So I didn’t hate it. The plot itself was lacking and honestly I can’t believe that I read 330 pages and this is where I’m left. The romance was eh. The spicy scenes we’re probably the best parts of this book, though I’m not complaining. Overall I will be reading book two when it comes out but my expectations are not high.
It’s been awhile since I read a book that I found this hard to put down. I loved the FMC and MMC and the way they met to how things shifted between them. And for me the best part is when I expect I know what’s going to happen, and I am so wrong. Can’t wait for the second book.
This book surprised me in a good way! I was engaged throughout the story and wanted to know what happens next. My only complain is that Altyr and Sylvia became involved a little too early for my taste. I wanted it to be more of a slow burn especially considering the circumstances in which the two met. However I will read the sequel.
I wasn't overly enamoured with this book. I liked the addition of the hollows, it makes it something different and outside the normal, but it feels like some of the character development isn't quite there yet. I appreciate it may come into the second book but I'm not making the next one my priority.
