A great look at the region of the Middle East. It introduces us to the geopgraphy, history of Islam and different social structures. It is clearly written and has a great amount of information that is also intereing to read

This just does not do the Middle East justice. It doesn't tell the whole story.

Despite some information now being incorrect, Bates accurately described the Middle East of the 1970s.
