When I am wrong, I can admit it. I've never had a problem with that. That is why I have come to tell you that I, on occasion, am a book snot. Murder, Mystery, thriller books have not always been my forte. Although I have read them, I tried to steer clear of them because I thought they were all horribly dull and predictable. That is not the case in this book. Yes, bits are predictable, but it has so many twists and turns that he predicatble parts you can over look. So I would like to say that I am throughly enjoying this at the moment.

The main character in this book is a young woman named Rebecca Ryan. She came from an afluent family in a town in West Virginia. At a young age she was in a car accident. After the car accident she started to have visions (basically ESP). Having ESP in this family was not uncommon. Her grandmother had it, her mother was scared of it, so Rebecca came to embrace it. She used it several times to help the local law officials solve crimes. When she was 16 her little brother Johnnie was kidnapped. Everyone looked to her for solving the crime, but she was unable to because she had no visions of the ordeal with her brother. Eventually her little brother was found murdered and everyone kinda blamed her because her ESP had failed her. Not being able to take how everyone felt about her she evetually left Sinclaire, West Virginia and headed for New Orleans. One of her biggest supporters was her cousin Molly. When Molly was pregnant she went and stayed with Rebecca. Eventually Mollie returned back to West Virginia to raise her son by hereself (Molly would not tell who the father was). So we skip ahead 10 years and Rebecca is heading back to West Virginia to see her aunt who had been recently diagnosed with cancer.

Rebecca was driving down the road when all of a sudden she had a vision and wound up crashing her car into a tree. She is taken to the ER where she meets Clay Bellamy. Clay used to be one of her crushes while in high school. Clay was now an ER doctor.

Rebecca thought that the vision she had was one of when her brother was taken, but come to find out the vision she had while driving the car was of her nephew's abduction (Molly's son). So begins the hunt to get Todd back. So far 2 people have died because they saw too much. 1 person seriously injured in an attack that was meant to them, but it didn't & several scare tactics directed towards Rebecca to try and run her out of town.

Young Rebecca Ryan comes from a family of clairvoyants, and has the gift herself. She is reluctant to use it, as during her youth it brought her shunning from her peers, and rejection by those she loved most. Additionally, it brought her into the limelight as she helped the local police in solving several cases, including ones that sent family members of her friends to prison. It didn’t help though when her beloved brother was kidnapped. She never knew who took him or why he was killed, and now, years later, she is back and embroiled in another high-profile case. The young son of a childhood friend and cousin is missing, and the town is again in turmoil.
Support from her family is sparse, as she deals with new flashes of visions that at first seemed to be that of the recent kidnapping, but then she realizes are scenes from another case. She deals with her mother's alcoholism, resentment from friends, and a bittersweet reminder of a childhood crush on a handsome friend of her brother.
This book was well written, and although during the course of the time I thought I determined who took the child in the recent case, I was mistaken. The shocking ending of the twisted schemes of a mad murderer were well written, and Sinclair, West Virginia watches as Rebecca is involved in several dramatic events, some of which the townspeople feel she set up to get herself in the limelight.
As the book moved to its shocking conclusion, I actually found myself in sympathy with the original kidnapper, seeing that there were places that redemption was possible. I did feel that it was all too pat an ending. I really enjoyed this book, and will look for more by this author.

I've always had a thing for stories that feature the power of certain abilities, such as those featured in this book, and it has been a while since I've been able to read a book in a day. I admit, it is not the best book I have read, but it is far from the worst, and on the back of this, I am tempted to try out a number of her other books.

This book is about second sight and the use of it. Teenaged clairvoyant Rebecca Ryan suffers with guilt because she could not save her kid brother, but she has a chance to help find another child who has been kidnapped. Will her second sight save this child?

The storyline was interesting, but I think this book would have benefitted from several more re-writes. The characters and dialogue were rather stilted.

This was a fairly entertaining book, but it annoyed me on a couple of levels. first of all, I figured out who the bad guy was fairly early on. Though to be fair, it wasn't necessarily obvious, I just got a sense. But, the main thing that bugged me is the general frivolity throughout the book. A 7 year old child is kidnapped. Most of the characters in the book are fairly close relatives. Yet, the only one not living it up is the mother. The protagonist, while trying to find the boy, is still going out on dates, laughing, flirting, having a grand old time. And they even throw a party. And even the mother goes to that, though she's pretty subdued through the whole thing. It was unbelievable to me.

Author writes some pretty direct "clues" and I could immediately tell that they're only for throwing me off. And it is because of the way she wrote it as though she was giving information or just lazy about approaching it in a more natural way of presenting it.
The ending could have focused on what happened after everything. Todd was mentioned on like just a single sentence. Instead, the author focused on the romance that never sat right with the story's setting at all.

Enjoyed this one a lot. The characters were three-dimensional, relatable and often likeable, and very little "classic" suspension of disbelief was required, due to the well-thought-out nature of the story. Clear recommendation.

Didn't love everything about it but moved from pretty good to very good, ending up thinking there was a lot of story packed in it, small town relationships, suspense, & romance that was cheesy, but the author pulled it off.

Thompson’s writing keeps you guessing until the very end. Her characters are authentic and her plots are fully developed. I’ve long enjoyed her work.

This book is about the kidnapping of a child, with echoes back to another ghastly and traumatic child kidnapping some years before.

Strengths: The kidnapping parts are, at different points, achingly, exhaustingly sad. And incredibly moving. The climax is very exciting. That dog is great! As for the killer or killers: even though readers were given two or three hazy clues, I never picked who the killer (or killers?) were, until the final reveal - so a big 'well-played!' to the author for that.
The rest of it...well I just couldn't stand it. I was shocked to find myself skimming past a lot of it - at first, I wasn't even aware I was doing it.

This book was peopled with nasties. The 'goodies' were so nasty and cliquey. The 'baddies' seemed to have more character. Everyone gossiped, maliciously. Even a doctor! He divulged private details, and gave his (sometimes bitchy) personal opinions and assumptions about patients. The male characters seemed to be quite feminine. The police, apart from one who happened to be part of the family dynasty, were often treated with great disrespect; in fact, one entitled young woman refused to comply when accosted by a cop - she sent him on his way, with a flea in his ear. Anyone else would have been on the ground, handcuffed, and probably incarcerated for a night or three. Another entitled young woman (Oh wait. The same one) graciously announced, one evening, that she was prepared to sit in the kitchen and eat with the help. The help were overjoyed and grateful for this special treat. A woman, who was not liked by the cliquey 'goodies', was described as 'eating in a miserable way' - those are not the words used, but I can't possibly revisit the book to search for the exact words. Once is more than enough. I didn't even read the final chapter. I just couldn't.

I love Carlene Thompson's writing and books! I've noticed a pattern with ESP in the last few books I've read. This isn't something I paid much attention to in the past, though have noticed recently since starting back on her books. Not my favorite thing but this book was great! I loved the characters, except Lynn and Jean (I'm sure that's why they're written unfavorably) and the story. It's suspenseful, on the edge of your seat and very well-written.

I did struggle to get into this book but I think it is more because I have had such a long reading lull and not down to the book itself. Once I got into it I struggled to put it down! Really well written with lots of decoys to try and throw you off the scent. Recommend to anyone who enjoys a mystery xx

Decent Storyline, But Falls a Bit Short

I a m not saying that the book is not good; it just doesn't rise to the top. I think that there was too much thrown into the plot, so that each character/ situation did not get sufficiently developed. The author thought of interesting scenarios. gave them superficial. but kept introducing more and more

At times almost felt like I was reading an upgrade of a Nancy Drew book. Which is not a bad thing, as I have read most of them. Just some things didn't seem realistic.

Quick easy read, not the best writer, at times the story didn't flow smoothly, but still good. The main character was likeable, lot's of suspects, little romance thrown in.
