“[…] They need you too, which will be a challenge, but one you will rise to, not just because you are strong in the Force, but because you’re strong in spirit. In yourself. You’ve proved it time and time again over the last few days, and you will prove it now.”

Well, that is not good. Not that I was expecting anything good to happen, either way.

Tey remains my favorite character in this series. His noble heart is a delight to read coupled with his trickster mind and carefree attitude. I love him. Period.

Even if I do love Tey the most his developing dynamic with Vildar has become a nice highlight. They play very well off each other and compliment each other in ways that are very interesting and fun to see.

I am terrified of what is to come, but at least I'll always have these characters to soothe my soul a little.

“We’re not hugging. Especially not in front of the others.”

4,5/5!

Vildar Mac has heard Oliviah Zeveron's call for aid. When he and his team are forced apart, he continues with Tey Sirrek to aid the wounded Jedi and protect the hidden Jedi vault.

This issue had so much great stuff. We had development for the larger storyline of Phase 2, some creepy Leveler content, finally some lines for Yana Ro who has, so far, appeared in the background a few times and never said anything, and some wonderful moments of character growth, especially for Vildar. He is, as Matty calls him, an old grump, but he has a good heart and even though he can be curt and solitary and stuck in his ways, he wants to do his best, always.

His relationships were so well done in this issue. His speech to Matty about how he believes in her, her talents and her spirit, was super wholesome, and I absolutely adored his scenes with Tey. I love how this blabbermouth of a criminal, a disgraced guardian with a fiercely protective heart and a very chaotic energy has been able to shake him out of his comfort zone and make him see that there is value in improvising, in following your gut instead of what you think is correct and to see that people are not always so black-and-white. I also just overall tend to love grumpy/sunshine dynamics - Yeah, Tey is not strictly a sunshine all the time, but he is loud, more optimistic and a character who leads with their heart, as sunshine characters tend to do. I cannot wait to see the next few issues as they are on this mission together and acting as a duo, and, considering how this issue ended, facing some really heavy, scary stuff.

This was probably one of the best issues of this series!

The High Republic #8 is one of the better issues in the series. The emotional moments managed to unfold a stronger impact than in previous issues and the character interactions convinced me much more. It's a bit of a shame that the issues all follow the same, simple structure, so overall I still find myself hoping that this series will have more substantial consequences towards the end.

"They need you too...which will be a challenge...but one you will rise to, not just because you are strong in the Force, but because you're strong in spirit. In yourself."
- Vildar to Matty

A dark force is trying to enter the secret Jedi vault outside of Jedha. Time for Vildar and Tey to interfere. Meanwhile Oliviah's life is at stack.
What you can expect from this:
- an exciting story with a huge surprise
- a connection to THR Phase 1
- well written emotional interactions
- decent artwork
Final Thoughts:
I enjoyed this one very much. You can feel the intensity of the risks at hand. The conclusion is really close now and the Jedi are getting tested in this issue. The author also transfers a sense of hope and companionship with Vildar supporting Matty which shows a slow yet steady change of mind for the otherwise rather closed-up and grumpy Jedi. Additionally the cliffhanger here is out of this world.
