The boy, the bear and the dog are the best of friends. In This Is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch, the boy prepares a picnic and leaves the bear in charge of it while he goes to find his shoes and socks. But guess who runs off with it while he's away? In This is the Bear and the Bad Little Girl, the boy and the bear are sharing an ice cream together in a cafe, but when a little girl takes a fancy to the bear and snatches him, the dog and the boy have to act fast! These delightful picture books are two of four in an early reader series that has been a huge success in the trade, schools and libraries.
This is a lovely, rhythmic story of a boy who packed a picnic lunch and left it with a sleepy bear! Children will love finding phonemes that rhyme, and surely we all share a picnic lunch with sandwiches, apples and crisps to crunch!
I read this to a reception class on alternative placement who really enjoyed telling me what was going to happen next in the story!
The story uses rhyme to talk about a boy who packed his lunch and left it with his bear to guard, but then his dog stole the lunch and naughtily hid with the bear behind the door to eat the lunch!
This is an amusing book which I believe adults will enjoy reading to young children and can create excitement which then moves onto discussion about healthy eating.
Oh dear - a recipe for potential disaster with a lovable bear, his owner, a mischievous dog and...a picnic! Before they even set out...the bear gets a little bored, the dog gets a little naughty...then they conspire....and the boy tries to be angry...
This is the most enjoyable book that I have read in a while. The story follows best friends, the boy and the bear and the dog. In this story, the boy prepares a picnic lunch and leaves the bear in charge of it while he goes to find his shoes and socks. Whilst looking for his shoes and socks, the dog steals the lunch and hides behind the door with the bear to eat it. The story uses repetition and rhyme, and this makes it suitable for children to predict what is going to happen next.
This is a lovely story and is aimed at very young children (EYFS/year 1) and is packed full of lovely illustrations. The children can use this story to predict events and create their own storyboards. The book can also lead on to discussion about what food to take to a picnic, and healthy eating in general.
Very simple story about a boy who packs a picnic lunch. He has his bear guard the lunch while he looks for his shoes and socks. The dog leaps onto the table to get to the lunch! He takes some of it behind the door, and the bear follows him. When the boy comes back, he finds just an apple left from his lunch. He discovers the dog and the bear eating most of the lunch behind the door! He decides to make another lunch and share it with them inside.
I would make a story basket for this book. I would be fun for the children to retell the story using the story basket. I would also leave out the story basket and the book during center times or free choice for children to retell the story to each other.
Perfect rhyme in a tale that's for all time. My withdrawn library copy from Wilsonville had a previous reader cross out the word "indoors" on the final printed page and replace it with "with friends" instead. Not that bad, but why not cross out the word to begin with?
