The Case for Hillary Clinton

Rate this book
With the Bush administration now in its final years, all eyes are turning to the 2008 political season -- especially those of Democratic voters, who are casting about for a galvanizing leader to help them win back the White House.

And in that role, argues longtime political strategist Susan Estrich, no candidate even approaches the power and promise of Hillary Rodham Clinton, the senator from New York. She is, by far, not only the most popular Democratic leader in the country, but also one of its most popular and admired politicians, period. Both a passionate spokesperson for progressive values and a strong advocate for our troops overseas, she has used her time in the Senate to establish herself successfully as a genuine political powerhouse. There is no candidate whose election would bring such vitality and lasting change into the White House. And she offers Americans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to break the world's most prominent glass ceiling and elect a female president of the United States.

In an atmosphere where conservative Hillary-bashing is still as virulent as ever, Estrich demonstrates all the reasons that this principled leader still blows away any other potential contender in the early polls for 2008. And, with arguments both stirring and sensible, she reminds us that if Hillary should succeed, America and the world would be changed forever and for the better.

I generally read everything I begin, even if I'm not thrilled with it, I will finish it. This writer is so unbelievably annoying that I tried repeatedly and just couldn't make myself do it (and yes, I tried to make myself). She writes as much about herself as Hillary, I believe. What she does write about herself just really gives me a very low opinion of her (the writer). I would get even more into specifics of my opinion of her from what I read, but it's really insulting, even if it is true. I wouldn't bother to waste my time or money on anything else this writer has written based on that. I felt sorry for Hillary that this woman wrote about her. She possibly even cost her votes.

I find this book really confusing, because there is no logical flow to the arguments. It's just a rambling of the political history of America's election campaigns and who were involved in what. There is no clear distinction in the ideas that was presented in in each chapter with respect to the title of the chapters. Everything was a just big blob of glue. I also felt that she was unreasonably patriotic about Hiliary mostly because Hilary is a woman, and the strongest message is that she is a feminist and represents women in America. Seeing how the 2016 campaign that is going on, I don't think it's a good selling point anymore because many women don't identify themselves with Hilary. Although I felt that I have a better understanding of how tough the job is to run a campaign, and how courageous Hilary was in trying to beat against the odds with flurry of attacks from Hilary-haters for something she didn't deserve to take responsibility for. I do have more respect for her dedication and devotion to politics and the aspiration she has in bringing positive changes to social and foreign policies of US.

Susan Estrich is a nice lady and not a bad writer. But the book, which purports to tell us why we should want a Hillary Clinton presidency (which is a difficult case to make, except to masochists) begins with a revealing exhortation. "Imagine," she tells the reader, what it will be like when we elect our first female president. This is quite literally the first thing written in the book. And don't you put your best arguments first (as all lawyers--and Susan is one-- know)? The best argument for choosing Hillary is that she is a woman, which is, to say the least, not very compelling. If you choose a president on that basis you must be relatively apathetic.

The Case Against Hillary Clinton (thought I'd read both) is much stronger one.

I like Hillary Clinton and will probably vote for her given the opportunity but this book is terrible. The author is not very organized and, with the exception of a single chapter, does not touch on very many issues. It should be titled "The Case for Hillary Clinton...for the democratic presidential nominee" because it is written specifically for democrats, so anyone who is undecided will not get anything from this book. A recurring theme is, “Isn’t it time for a woman president?” With Obama running this doesn’t really help her since her audience could ask right back, “Isn’t it time for a black president?”

I am not a political junkie so this book dragged on a bit. I am always amazed how political candidates can be so mean and nasty in the heat of the race for office. Then kiss and makeup when the winner is announced. All's fair in love and war is the mantra for political contenders. This reader is definitely not a fan. There is no honest politician. In God we Trust: let's hope He is watching and knows what He is doing.

I love Hillary, but this was one of the worst books I have ever read. Only one chapter of the book was really devoted to "the case for Hillary." The rest of the book are worthless anecdotes and the author talking about herself. The book is old, and it is interesting to see how far off the author's predictions were. Obama's name was never even mentioned. Would not recommend to anyone.

It was't a very good book. Unless you are really into politics and you want to get the big picture of what it's like, than do not read. It was actually quite boring. I grabbed it because Hillary Clinton is running for president again and I thought it would be interesting. Overall I give it a one star rating and didn't very much enjoy the book.

Most of the book is not about Hillary but about Estrich's point of view about American politics. And the parts about Clinton? The "case for" is not all that persuasive. I suspect it wasn't all that helpful since she lost to Obama. I certainly don't think it is helpful at all in this 2016 race. The book is also a tedious read.

Not sure if this is a feminist who just wants a woman President or if she is working for Hillary. Actually think she is a renegade pushing for Hil without Hil's support...because I don't think she'd want this "kind" of support.
