This unprecedented anthology has quickly become the classic text for all who want to understand the problems confronted by native people in North America. Includes, among other topics, treaty rights and international status, self-governance, U.S. repression, spiritual hucksterism, resource development and uranium contamination on reservations, religious freedom, and the implications of the Columbus Quincentenary celebration.
Excellent academic collection of essays from (mostly) Native American authors. This collection is nearly 30 years old and perhaps the most excruciating part of reading it is that not much has changed in favor of indigenous people in the United States since the book was initially published.
I first read this book in 1993....it was startling and informative....anyone who has interests in the American aborigines needs to read this.........please
