I labored to get through this book at times but it was on me as I had seriously misunderstood the book's purpose. I had supposed it a general biography of Washington when it was a specific biography highlighted him as a soldier. I suppose some would be fascinated by troop movements in such detail but I am not that person.
However, the book did offer much in the way of observing the man under various degrees of stress caused by diverse situations and seeing him handle them only strengthened my great respect for him. It is also impossible to realize the cause would have been lost multiple times if not for the great hand of Providence upon the fledgling nation and it's stalwart general. Washington himself proclaimed this truth many times in word, print, and actions.
Though, as I have mentioned, the going was difficult at times the last few chapters made me very glad I persevered and I ended up being glad I read the book. It is recommended, just understand what you are getting yourself into.
