Dinosaur’s Day By Ruth Thomson Grade Levels: K-2 DRA/Lexile Measure/GLE: 130L/1.8 Reviewed By Aaron Carter
Dinosaur’s Day, which is rated as a “Level One” book by DK, is about a day in the life of a Triceratops, as told by the dinosaur. Although simple sentences and repetition are used, there are numerous difficult-to-pronounce dinosaur names throughout its pages. The teacher will have to pronounce them for younger readers. The book is replete with illustrations, as well as images of dinosaur figurines in lifelike settings. This would be a natural choice for an introduction to dinosaurs.
This is a beginner book, so don't be surprised at how dumb it seems. Actually, for a kid who knows very little about dinosaurs, this is probably a good start. For a kid (like mine) who knows a lot about dinosaurs and is just learning to read... boring.
This books has fun Dino facts and shows how fierce the big bad T-rex was so long ago. Many dinosaurs would run away but one dinosaur isn't able to get away so he must fight. How will the dinosaur defend himself from the biggest dinosaur in the land?
Yeah, I found this a little dull and the illustrations even a little strange (that wild-eyed T rex!) but my 4 year old liked it and it wasn't too long.
