#8 – The Race Car Monster
Fun story by Gail Herman accompanied by colourful illustrations. Suitable for very young audiences as it's not too scary but enough mystery to be engaging.

Monsters at the racetrack? Zoinks! This is a fun book in the Scooby-Doo! Readers series. It's short, with lots of colorful illustrations and the mystery is not scary. We all love Scooby-Doo, so these books are a particular favorite at storytime. We enjoyed reading this story together and have read it a few times.

On a side note, this story gave me a bit of the creeps, because it made me think of the story Trucks from Stephen King's book Night Shift. It was made into a movie in the 80s called Maximum Overdrive and featured an evil Green Goblin truck that was reminiscent of the "monster trucks" in this story. (shudder) The movie itself was rather campy and almost silly, but as I look back on several of my reviews, I can see that I'm scarred for life by many of Stephen King's tales.

March 2022 update: I purchased a 12-book set (the Scooby-Doo! Read & Solve series) and read each one again.
