In the two years since she claimed Harmony, Texas, as her home, eighteen-year-old Reagan Truman has found herself drawn to others who have made their way there, too. Gabe Leary, for instance, whose plan to hide out in Harmony is dashed when he becomes the town hero. Then there's Liz Matheson: Vulnerable and fresh out of law school, Liz has never been needed by anyone --- until an unsettling encounter with Gabe changes everything. And there's Liz's brother, volunteer fire chief Hank Matheson, who's starting to wonder whether the town's sheriff, Alex McAllen, will ever set the date to marry him.
As for Reagan, who's been shaped by the loneliness she's known most of her life, she's finally found a place she belongs --- and doesn't want anything to get in her way. But when her life is put in jeopardy and the whole town comes together to save her, she'll discover that trusting the love that's come into our hearts is the greatest gift of all ...

Favorite Quote:”Well if I’m not dead then you must have come to call, and I’d better tell you Tyler Wright, I’m to old for you and even if I was willing to take a chance with you I wouldn’t.
You see, I kinda like being a widow. It’s easier to spell then divorcee and I don’t have to share the bathroom or remote with anyone.”
Welcome back to Harmony. It’s been a while since we’ve seen you. Come on down to the Blue Moon cafe and sit a spell. I’ll fill you in on everything that’s happened since your last visit. 2 years have passed since the last time I saw you here. Ah, I see you noticed Reagan Thurman. Well, she decided to stay after the fire that almost destroyed her uncle Jeremiah's farm last year. You remember that don’t you? That nasty boy who wanted to be a hero decided to take nature into his own hands and almost killed us all. Jeremiah is still a ornery as ever but between you and me I think he dearly loves that girl.
Reagan and Noah McAllen are still thick as thieves but something seems to be coming between them. They are drifting apart and it’s hurting Reagan something fierce.
She’s working a shift for Edith. Bless her heart. I wouldn’t wish Ms. Edith’s husband on anyone...but things may be changing. Lloyd sure seems to be having a lot of accidents lately. But that’s ok, if Ms. Edith needs help, Liz Matheson is back in town-fresh from law school. Setting up her shingle over the hardware store. She hasn’t any real experience but she sure seems be getting a lot of late night company *wink-wink*. I swear it looks like Gabe Leary but that couldn’t be right. He never comes to town and when he does he speaks to no one.
Liz’s brother Hank Matheson , the local volunteer Fire Chief, isn’t happy about his sister living in town alone but he has his own worries. He and Alex McAllen, the town sheriff-I swear, you don’t remember a thing do you? *sigh* Well, they have been engaged for 3 years but have set no date yet.
I have to wonder...is it her? Or him?
Stella McNabb says there is an old woman who is haunting the local cemetery but Tyler Wright says it’s just a lonely old soul looking for answers to the past. Tyler sure seems a little down lately. Perhaps it has something to do with the Major we saw him with 2 years ago. Ms. Stella also has predicted that a shadow as dark night will creep from Old Harmony and spread it’s poison like a gas through out the town. Her husband Bob thinks it’s the Mexican food they ate the other night but I’m not sure.
She was right the last time.
Somewhere Along the Way picks up 2 years after Welcome to Harmony. Romance, friendship, and change are the foundations of this story. It centrals around Reagen and her place in the town. Reagen Thurman has settled into her new life with ease. Having found the love and acceptance she always craved; she worries when things and people around her start to change.
Smoothly written with an engaging steady pace, this compelling 2nd installment sweeps us back into Harmony and the intricate relationships of it’s founding families. There are 4 story lines that blend and intertwine; each circling back to Reagen. Reagen’s relationship with Noah is changing and she is not sure where she stands in his life or if there is even a place for her anymore. When she takes on the Wednesday night duties of a waitress at the Blue Moon, she soon learns that everyone in the town has a story in them. As her own day to day actions interact and and ripple through the town’s residents, Reagen and the others soon learn that change is inevitable, but with love and friendship, can be embraced and celebrated.
Ms. Thomas has such a gift for creating memorable and witty characters who’s not so perfect lives transcend the book and become friends of our heart. She writes with such intimacy that we are instantly drawn back in as if we never left. She gives voice to old and new characters in this story and all play an important part in the town’s and Reagen’s life. Martha Q. has to be one of my favorite characters in this story. A wild unapologetic multiple time widow-she just wants to help. Regardless if you want help or not.
Ms. Thomas gives a lot of background into her characters lives without overwhelming you. A strong character driven arc, it’s rather like coming home and catching up on all the town gossip. Steady and humorous dialog keeps you entertained and laughing throughout the book. We are given a little suspense and mystery through out the book that brings some strong emotions to the table and resolves in heartwarming satisfactory way.
I do admit there is one story-line with Carol Matheson that that developed awkwardly. It is very slowly revealed during the book but becomes a major issue at the end and it threw me off. I didn't really understand WHY she is the way she is. Her background doesn't led credence to her cruelty. At least not yet. Hopefully we will see more of her and her situation in the next book.
Even though this could be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading the first in the series, Welcome To Harmony. This is a continuation and is written as such. All in all a delightful contemporary romance that continues the Harmony saga and I cannot wait for the 3rd book-set to release in 2011.

All of my favorite characters are back in the next installment of Harmony! I would have liked a bit more of Reagan but I'm loving the new characters too!
Oh and poor Ty...my heart continues to break for him...I want this man to get his happily ever after!
I think I need to change my perception of this series. It's not simply a romance novel but a "small town" romance novel and I'm not just referring to the setting. There's also that small town feel where everyone is involved in your life. In this case it was Gabe and Liz who had the townsfolk getting into their business. After reading Somewhere Along the Way I've come to expect the romance to share the stage with numerous other story lines. I would say maybe half the book was focused on Gabe and Liz's story, and that's being generous. So while I do plan to read the next book, I won't expect the romance to be the main focus.
Those other story lines are quite a few. There are: Gabe and Liz - the main romance. Reagan and Noah and Bran - a teenage love triangle. Hank and Alex - still trying to make it to the alter. Tyler and Kate - their email potential romance of two years. Mrs. Biggs - with her grave sitting. Claire of the man hating paintings and new guy Denver. It's possible I'm missing someone.
I did like the book but it became almost a habit to read quickly through the story lines that held little or no interest for me. Tyler and his email romance with the elusive Kate. At this point, I honestly don't care what happens to them. Claire and Denver and their budding, crazy romance. This has the potential for an interesting romance but not with so many other plots and subplots going on. So not much interest in them either.
Gabe and Liz, I did like a heck of a lot. Gabe is this reclusive, elusive comic book author who has no interest in people, their problems or their gossip. Too bad Gabe cause you're going to be in the thick of it pretty soon. He and Liz are quite a pair. They fit like two pieces of a puzzle. Gabe is Liz's missing piece. Or maybe it's Liz that's Gabe's missing piece. Whichever way it is, I really enjoyed them together but wish they had had more page time. Liz is just starting her law practice and Gabe becomes her favorite client. Their interactions are humorous with Gabe not always understanding Liz's logic and not really concerned about it. He just likes being with her. Liz gets Gabe to come out of his cave and get to know the people of Harmony. She's bossy like that which is just what Gabe needed.
The Reagan from Welcome to Harmony (book 1) has grown since coming to live in this small town. She is my favorite character in this series. She is such a fun, witty, insightful character to read. She's just turning eighteen but has the soul of a much older, seasoned person. Her love for her Uncle Jeremiah, not an uncle of her blood but of her heart, is solid and a testament to her loyalty. I'm curious to see where her relationships with Noah and Bran lead.
The suspense was good, with a couple of threads to follow. Gabe has a bit of a dark history that he may or may not have to confront. And Reagan gets caught up in the middle of something that puts her in danger. Both situations show how the whole town pulls together and sets aside any differences to help one of their own. I do love that small town feel that Thomas brings to this series.
The next book in the series, no title yet, will be out next fall. I'll be reading it and anticipating the whole town to show up. :)
Somewhere Along the Way did not disappoint. When I started reading this one I fell right back into the wonderful town of Harmony along with it's inhabitants. Somewhere Along the Way is the story of Liz and Gabe and the town of Harmony, but it's so much more than that as well.
One thing I particularly love about these novels is the fact that they don't focus just on the couple who will be getting together in that novel. This isn't just about Liz and Gabe. We get to go back and visit with Hank and Alex from Welcome to Harmony. We see more of Reagan, Preacher, Tyler and others. We get to meet new people in Harmony and find out more about them. It's fun to see the town come to life with it's inhabitants. I absolutely love the way Ms. Thomas writes about Harmony and the people, it makes me feel like I am a part of the town and watching what is going on from my front porch.
There are a couple of romances in this one and Tyler is still pining away as well. Reagan is also still central to the story and I really like her and her uncle and the colorful townsfolk. Ms. Thomas tells a beautiful story of how a town comes together each time there are problems. I think I would love to live somewhere like Harmony and I definitely wouldn't mind a Gabe, Hank or Denver to come to my rescue.
If you like small town romances, with a touch of suspense, some humor and great characters, then I highly recommend Somewhere Along the Way. It's a book you will pick up and not want to put down and as soon as you finish you will be eagerly awaiting the next novel in this series.
Wondering whether you need to read the first in the series before you read this. It's not a must, but it will give you background on this book. I do believe you can pick Somewhere Along the Way and get to know the folks of Harmony, but trust me when I say you want to read Welcome to Harmony as well.
I am loving this series so far! Set in a small Texas town, it features lots of great characters and story lines. No foul language and the adult content is mostly left up to your imagination.
I really enjoyed the friendship between Gabe and Denver. They were quite funny. I hated Claire and obviously Lloyd. People like him make me sick. When they think that they deserve everything without earning it and using violence to get their way is despicable. Claire needs to get over things. I know she was hurt, but hating men just because of one bad one is a bit much. I know firsthand how lonely a person can get like that as my sister in law is the spitting image of Claire. She got hurt once and has hated men ever since.
Liz and Gabe were awesome together. I liked that she didn't back down from Gabe's keep away attitude, and how she got under his skin. It was nice to see Brandon doing good and trying to be a better person.
Harmony Texas is an easy place to visit. They are fine audiobooks. But this one...it was just kind of "meh" for me. It felt like there were things that should have been explored, that just wasn't (more emotional connections between Gabe and Liz) and a lot of things that time was spent on, that just didn't seem necessary. The end just kind of petered out, in fact I didn't realize the book was actually over and double checked that all part of the audiobooks downloaded. I'll probably keep reading this series, but I hope that the next one is stronger.
The characters introduced in "Welcome to Harmony" return and a few new characters find themselves in Harmony, Texas looking for redemption, healing and perhaps a chance for love. This the second book centers around Gabe, a broken soldier who returns to Harmony to hide out from his past. But after rescuing Reagan who slipped and fell into a ravine on freezing night the town starts to thwart his plans to live a hermit's life. He meets Liz a young lawyer who's sleeping in her office because she can't afford to rent a home and sparks immediately fly. Finally, an old friend from his army days has managed to track him down and that's pretty much the end of his life hiding from the world.
Fans of Emily March in particular will like this series. I think other books in this genre can be quite heavy on the sexual content. I personally don't mind that but I know there are people who prefer books without so much sex in them and these books definitely fit that bill.
I don't think I'd heard of Jodi Thomas until I heard people raving about Twisted Creek on some blogs. Or maybe it was AAR. Anyway, after reading Twisted Creek I read every thing on her back list that I could find. She writes a great story! I love her contemporary stories the best. Somewhere Along the Way is the second in a trilogy about Harmony, Texas. Many of the characters from the first book, Welcome to Harmony, show up in this book as well but there are new people. Many of the threads started in the first book are continuing in the weave. Its sounds like it could be boring but it isn't. Thomas doesn't drag a plot line out or fill pages with pointless meanderings. She skillfully weaves multiple story lines into a well paced, engaging story about small town life. I can't wait until the third book comes out next year.
I jumped right into this second book in this series, something I’ve learned not to do over the year; however, I wanted to find out more about teenage runaway and imposter, Reagan’s, story. Alas, she is not in this book too much, though she is pivotal to many plotlines. A new citizen of Harmony is introduced, Gabriel Leary, himself a runaway three times over, returned after years away from this small west Texas town. It took me about 100 pages to really get invested in this new storyline, but it was well worth it in the end. I didn’t gobble it down like I did Welcome to Harmony.
Found out the next book in the series will be out fall, 2011; title unknown. I’m looking forward to it.
Another stellar entry in Thomas' Harmony, Texas series. I was so happy to fall back into the town and the lives of all its inhabitants.
This isn't a romance novel about one couple, it's a love story about a town and all the people who live in it. I adored getting back in touch with some old favorites (Tyler, the undertaker, Hank and Alex from the first novel, Reagen) and getting to know the new characters introduced here (Martha Q, Denver, Gabe and Liz).
I'm just really sad that we haven't to wait A WHOLE YEAR for the next installment. Is it 2011 yet?
Depending on your point of view book 2 or 3 of the Harmony Series picks up almost exactly where the last book left off. Reagan is a year older and working in town and her adopted uncle's health is beginning to fail. We are introduced to new characters but Reagan's relationship with Noah becomes complicated, but then there are 6 more volumes for that to get sorted out. The final chapter read like a thriller.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It came a couple of months late so I just got a chance to read it. I throughly enjoyed the book. It kept you hopping with so many different characters. I will have to try and find some of the books in the series. It is the first Jodi Thomas book that I have read but it will not be the last.
A wonderful small town romance. Everyone knows who everyone else is, there is slow build and you really learn to love the characters. Comfort read for me.
I liked how Liz wanted to make it on her own and be independent and away from her family. I liked how the hero was a loner and became obsessed with making sure the heroine was safe. Gabe is a great hero.
As with the first in this series, this is so much more than a romance or even a mystery. There are elements of both, as well as the small-town feel and comradeship. Reagan is still the lead in the story, as she turns 18 and finds herself settling in to her new home with Uncle Jeremiah. The romance is about Gabe Leary, son of the town drunk, but now an ex-Special Forces and successful graphic novel writer. Liz is Hank's sister and a new lawyer, although she's always been underestimated by her family. Both are unexpectedly attracted to each other and find themselves starting to build a relationship. We revisit with many characters from the previous book, including Hank and Abby (still not married), Noah and Brandon (Reagan's friends), and Tyler (funeral home director) who has a secret of his own. Newcomer Denver adds some depth and interest. I was totally involved in the whole town again right from the start, and then there's an exciting action scene towards the end that keeps the story moving forward quickly. Despite everyone knowing everything about everyone else, I love this small town because it's not quite so nosy as some, and there are a lot of decent and caring people. I definitely look forward to continuing with this series sooner rather than later. I'm so glad I finally discovered it.
The set up is very similar to the author's Ransom Canyon series. The first book stars a 16 year old and the second book is two years later with the same girl in a love triangle. And of course the always loveable grey haired characters!!! for some reason I prefer this series. Jodi's humor is still evident in both series and her strongest theme love. Jodi has an amazing talent of blending strangers families small town eccentrics into a beautiful community. I think my favorite about this author is how she gently reminds the introverts that they're not really isolated and they are worthy of love. Perhaps I am reading too much in her writing but dammit this lady sure can make me forget my real life problems and lets me fantasize of a different world.
I loved the first half of this book, but then unfortunately some of the lesser branches of the story got in the way of the better ones. I couldn't care less about Denver and Claire (except for that fleeting moment when Thomas seemed to turn romance novel expectations upside down) but they took up so much time. This story would have worked even better for me if there had been a tighter focus on Reagan, Gabe (Liz was not as interesting though), Bran or even Martha Q and Mrs Biggs.
Still, I enjoyed this a lot. I appreciated that the story was never too predictable and that most of the characters feel very real. It's obvious that the author knows the setting intimately, and sadly that's not always the case in the romance genre.
Reagan Truman has found her home in Harmony with her uncle. She has been shaped with the loneliness she's had all of her life. She won't let anything get in her way of the life she's found. Her friend Gabe Leary is a hermit hiding out but his cover is blown when he becomes a hero. Gabe has fallen for his lawyer, Liz Matheson. The sheriff, Alex McAllen is engaged to the Fire chief Hank Matheson. He wants to get married but Alex won't set a date. Between these citizens of Harmony and several other cast of characters a good little story evolves. A good read!

Challenges: RRRCs June 2019 - Author name beginning in 'J' (1); and, Create Your Own Readathon/Stacking the Series/Primary List/Level 10/Book 2. Two years have passed since the first book in the series with relationships stalled and more characters introduced adding hope for older and younger generations of the families of Harmony. As usual, a really good story about the rebuilding of an interesting town.
Honestly I kind of surprised how much I enjoy reading this series! I love people of Harmony, because they are so real. Flawed, mean, lonely. I don't LOVE every character living in this town, but i like it. I dont love Clarie, Liz grown on me, same with Alex but i've got invested in their stories, just like with everyone else. And im waiting for happy ending for Tyler! He's such a sweetheart and I want him to be happy. Let the reading continue...
second in series the girl that came to town and the uncle that said she was his neice. she is working in the diner. the man that comes at night to get a meal to go without coming inside saves her life when she falls in the snow. the husband that beats his wife who works in the diner abducts her. the town comes together to rescue her. the uncle is in the hospital very ill
This was an all around good read. The story has a warm wonderful feel to it. Yes, there is a bit of mystery in the story, but it is not the biggest part of the story. I absolutely loved the characters and the town’s atmosphere. The budding romance between Gabe, the mysterious neighbor, and Liz, the new young lawyer in town is so sweet.
Completely enjoyable time spent in the small town of Harmony Texas. Two years after the first book and the characters are still getting on with life and facing their needs and challenges. Looking forward to more!
I hooked on Jodi Thomas, Harmony series. The reader relates to the characters like family. The reader becomes part of a community, and Harmony a place you want to live. Highly recommend can't wait to book 3.
I love this series! It gets better each time. The author draws you into the story with such relatable characters. I can hardly wait to see what happens next in this small town.
