Oooh, the faith content was quite strong in this one! While still heavily focused on fashion, “Glamour” correspondingly had some more serious parts and responsibility that I liked seeing. It was also neat to see the Carter House Girls again.
Looking forward to reading and reviewing the last book next month! :)

Ever since reading Spotlight, Guitar Babe and I have looked forward to this next book of the On the Runway series by Melody Carlson. GLAMOUR, book 5 of the series, continues with the sisters busy preparing for their mother’s wedding and their trip to the Bahamas to film their popular reality-TV show.

While Paige is leading in the wedding preparations, Erin finds out that their TV director, Fran, is sick with leukemia. Fran confides this to Erin with the condition that she has to keep it a secret. What can Erin do to help Fran?

In the meanwhile, Paige is high with love because of her recently announced engagement to designer Dylan. Erin doubts that this is true love but Paige seems to be so happy.

More drama ensues when they go to the Bahamas to film their TV show during Fashion Week with the very sick Fran. In the Bahamas, the threat of an incoming hurricane keeps them in the hotel and cancels much of the Fashion Week shows. The presence of Dylan with Paige also causes tension among the sisters. The story ends quite dramatically.

MY THOUGHTS

As usual, Melody Carlson does a good job of describing the feelings of a young Christian girl caught up in all this drama. I appreciate that we see how Erin actually matures in this story as she strives to help those she loves. Here in GLAMOUR, we’ll see how Erin matures emotionally while dealing with several issues in her life all at once: her self-centered sister, her bestfriend's pregnancy and delivery, a friend's illness and not the least of all, her love life. We’ll also read how she learns to trust in the Lord for the lives of those she cares for.

I am so looking forward to getting to know Paige Forrester better as she is portrayed as someone who is just so self-focused. I hope that her character is developed further in the next series of books.

First of all, thank you GoodReads for another great giveaway.

"Glamour" is book five in the YA "On the Runway" series by Melody Carlson. I found the plot age appropriate and the characters endearing. A little too much religion for my tastes, but that's not to say it was a turnoff. For young Christian women, I think this book (and I'm assuming the series, though I haven't read the first four books) would be something they can read and enjoy and connect with through their own spirituality. A sweet book about coming of age, and the struggles young women go through in determining their own morals and beliefs.

I enjoyed this book a lot, which is interesting as I'm not into fashion or behind the scenes of tv. I appreciate that the task of caregiving was discussed, as that is my life right now. And even caregiving for a leukemia patient, because that is exactly what I am doing! The book also discusses moral values and sex before marriage, an important topic in my book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Erin and Paige have a lot going on. in addition to hosting a hit reality show they are putting the finishing touches on their mom's wedding while celebrating Paige's recent engagement. Erin is helping Molly with her final trimester and is Fran's sole support system during chemo, plus she's trying to figure out what she wants to do about dating. Then they also have the Bahama's trip planned to film their show. When the cast from Malibu Beach tries to cause drama, and the sister's have a difference in morality, Erin starts to wonder how much more can happen at once.
I do like this series. This one was a little more dramatic than they usually are, although everything worked out, almost too perfectly. The ending was bad. There was supposed to be a conversation, which Im pretty sure will happen in the final book but it was almost like she forgot about the conversation completely. Im about 90% sure I know what's going to happen in the series finale as well but time will tell if I am correct

This series is one of my all time favorite series. I have read the first four books prior and loved them it just took me a bit to come back to the series. This book was also a reread so there was not much too surprising to me, but I still loved the book. I do not want to say too much about it because I do not want to spoil anything. This book was a heart tugger. The drama builds up for Paige and Erin is having to take on more responsibility. The fashion element and the travel element is always entertaining and really fun. This series is a comfort series. I love these books so much!!!

Goodbye Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, hello Paige and Erin Forrester.

I’ve been holding on to my collection of Sweet Valley High books, the wildly popular series in the 80s-90s that triggered my inner bookworm and marked my tween years, like books were extinct. I wanted to show them to my future kids, like relics from a time when fun love stories didn’t have to revolve around the undead or super sexually charged prepubescents.

Well, I’m clearing out the bookshelf today. Melody Carlson’s Glamour, fifth in the On the Runway series, gives me good reason to hope.

Teen sisters Paige and Erin couldn’t be more different: older sister Paige is the outgoing fashionista, while younger Erin is the reflective responsible one.

What they do have in common is their popular fashion TV show, plus the drama-comedy of fame, faith, love, and sisterhood that goes with it.

In Glamour, the girls’ mom gets married, Paige is engaged, and everyone’s excited for the Bahamas shoot. Things are looking great—except for a moral clash between the sisters, a director secretly battling cancer, and crazy love dilemmas.

Glamour is a good look not only at the fashion world but at life: what’s pretty on the outside can be pretty rottten inside.

It’s easy to relate to Paige and Erin, pegged as cool vs. Christian, but thankfully not two-dimensional stereotypes. Erin’s struggles with her faith are very down-to-earth, and she doesn’t miraculously discover the perfect answer after a prayer or two.

Premarital sex comes up, but doesn’t overshadow everything else like an overblown centerpiece. I was expecting to find a didactic monologue about the glory of true-love-waits, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that the reader is led to, not force-fed, that conclusion.

Here’s my only thing about Glamour: having started at Book 5, it was hard to figure out the whole context, and the book didn’t give much to go by. In the first place, how did two teenage sisters land their own popular TV show (I mean, don’t they go to school?).

Descriptions are sparse. I can’t even picture the main characters in my mind—except Paige is, of course, blond, while Erin is a brunette.

Having no background of their relationships, it was also hard to empathize with, for example, the jilted almost-boyfriend, or the trumped up jealous rival. I constantly felt like the odd man out; as if everyone knew something I didn’t and it’s driving me nuts. But not nuts enough to discourage you from reading it.

Glamour is perfect for girls in their tweens and early teens: just the right mix of fun and faith to pack a punch without being preachy. I’d recommend starting at Book 1 and growing with the characters from there. On the Runway could be a series young girls will keep on the shelf right through adulthood—just like me and my Sweet Valley High.

Fabulous! The definition of glamour impacts my understanding of the tittle of this book by making me realize that Dylan and Paige's relationship was an exciting and often illusory and romantic relationship. To me I think Erin did the right thing by keeping Fran's secret because it shows that she's trustworthy and responsible young lady. If Fran asked me to keep her secret I probably would and somewhat do the same thing that Erin do. I probably wouldn't have taking off my sarong like Erin did because I like to have most of my body cover. Usually when I'm down I like to listen to music and tell a story in mind to make over my attitude. I don't think Erin continues to do the show solely for Paige's benefit because I think she kind of enjoying her role as being costar instead of always being the camera girl. No actually I don't think I've ever been in a situation similarly to what Erin has. I think it was okay for Dylan to sleep in the condor with Paige because after all they will be spending their whole life together after they get married. I think Erin continually pushes Blake away even though she claims to care for him because she's afraid of being hurt again. Yes, I did think Erin did the right thing to tell that maybe Dylan just merely slept in Eliza's hotel room. To predict who the situation with Dylan and Paige will be resolved in the final book is hard to tell because first I though Dylan wasn't the kind of guy who would be cruel to sleep with someone else while he was engaged with someone else. I think the show has been a good thing for them because I think if they didn't do the show they wouldn't have the kind of experience they had to help them in the future. The theme of the book is: It is impossible to be certain about things; Growing up is a challenge for everyone; Accepting a challenge leads to positive results; Actions speak louder than words; Falsehood is easy, truth so difficult.

My 2 cents:

This is the 5th book in this series and I have not read the first 4. Erin and Page are sisters and in the modeling/reality tv show. They thought some things were past them till Brogan Braxton wants to be on the show. Paige is not thrilled as she knows how Brogan feels about her. It also doesn't help one of their friend cancer has returned. Erin keeps her promise to Fran about her cancer. She also has issues with Blake as well. She is torn either to love him or have a friendship. Erin stands by everyone her sister, Fran, Molly and her baby. Pagie ends up getting hurt and Erin is there like a sister should be. I thought this was a good read. I enjoyed it. I wish I could have read the others first, but I think most people would have a nice read even with out read them. I was happy to review this book.

Paige and Erin Forrester are off -- to the Bahamas! And meet someone Bruce--a hurricane.

(I got spoiled for this book.)

Okay, what I said above about the hurricane is not a spoiler. With the amount of hype it gets halfway through the book, you can tell it's going to happen.

So everything I can think of to say about this book is either a spoiler or completely unnecessary. It was okay. It wasn't my favourite (that would Rendezvous).

Characters - Paige was Paige, Erin was Erin, Blake was a jerk, Dylan turned out not to be dream boy (it says it on the back of the book. Plus it always works like that in contemporary, doesn't it?) We had some more Eliza and Rhiannon. We didn't get enough Taylor or JJ. But we did get to know Alistair a bit more. Plus, the beginning of the book, there's some more Malibu Beach, when they cover Brogan's fashion show. (Again, not a spoiler. It's on the first page.)

Setting - This was more like Rendezvous with the setting, with the Bahamas being most of the setting, but there wasn't much sightseeing. Just fashion shows and beaches. I get that that's probably what the Bahamas is (I've never been so I can't say), but you'd think they'd go somewhere a little more...tourist-y. There had to have been something else. Although I can understand why Erin (who's the narrator) didn't go exploring (it's a spoiler so I won't say anything).

I'm going to give this book four stars because while it was good (spoilers and all), it doesn't have that wow factor.

Glamour by Melody Carlson was my first book in the On the Runway series. It took me a couple of chapters to pick up but I got into the story and got to know the characters. Paige and Erin host a runway show that watches the latest fashions. Erin takes a big role in this installment. Not only does she step up as a co host but she steps up for the people in her life. We start with a lot of changes. The girls mom is getting married, Paige is engaged, Fran (the director) has her leukemia come back, and Erin's best friend Mollie is about to have a baby. We watch life change up for everyone and have an exciting trip to the Bahamas for some fun summer fashion. These girls are fun, have a point of view and stand their ground. I would absolutely continue to read this series and recommend it to girls with an eye for style.

Loved this one to the teeth gotta say On The Runway is my fave series in forever. Love Melody Carlson's writting it's so out there interesting and well pops-out :D She can make good series with a snap of a finger. Well not to that degree but she is excellent author. Bahmamas in this was nerve-wracking what would happen but none the less it was extremely well :D Sad though with Fran's Condtion it made me cry I gotta say because love Fran and Erin and Paige etc. But Love Erin and Fran they can crack me up to some point I'm laughing on the floor. Gotta say these books are getting to me but not in a bad way hell no in a very very very good way :D LOVE READING!

Thank you for the book I won through the Goodreads giveaways. This book seems to be aimed at teens that love fashion, reality TV and Protestant Christian values. I haven’t read the first four books, which I would recommend doing because this book seems to assume the reader has. The large events pass a bit too quickly, and the basically likeable characters seem to only worry about fashion and who is dating/marring whom.

I won this through the Goodreads First Reads program. I've never read any books previously in this series, but I didn't really have any trouble in understanding what was going on. The book was pretty good, my only problem is that it's occasionally cliche. I mean, two sisters filming a reality show? I've heard that plot before. However, I ignored this and just read the book, which was very dramatic and, though I hate to admit it, entertaining. I'd recommend it to anyone. :)

A quick, easy, enjoyable read that is full of valuable lessons for your everyday walk with Jesus. I really enjoyed the dilemmas that Erin would find herself in after thinking and sincerely trying to make good decisions. I love the underlying theme of God's timing and faithfulness. I do wish that I had read the earlier books in the series so I could understand Paige and her mother better. I recieved a free copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads.

Not having read the previous books, it took a few pages to understand the story line, but once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. I am definitely not in the teen market that this book is geared to, but I found it refreshing. No vampires, no explicit sex or drug use and, surprisingly references to God. A coming of age type story that I would encourage any teen to read. This was my first book won, and it was a winner...

I haven't read this series, but I won this book as a goodreads first. It was really easy to pick up on, and I was able to figure out what was going on. However, I felt like I was reading a soap opera, and it wasn't going anywhere. I really didn't read a story, I felt like I read an act of a play. There really isn't a beginning or climax to the story, it just goes.
