This is a fascinating research into all aspects of book production friom early Islam to the late 19th century. It was written in Swedish in 1946 and translated into English in 1984 by the art historian Robert Hillenbrand. Easy to read, well told, full of anecdotes - and if you know Arabic (like me), you can tell how well the writer was versed in the knowledge of the language.
