Rate this book
Major medical journals are finally beginning to recognize hypnosis as a legitimate clinical tool, citing proof positive that it can help ease chronic pain, lessen the side effects of chemotherapy, counteract anxiety and sleep disorders, and more. On Heal Yourself with Medical Hypnosis: The Most Immediate Way to Use Your Mind-Body Connection!, Dr. Andrew Weil joins Dr. Steven Gurgevich, a leading expert in mind-body medicine, to offer listeners a 2-CD session on how to use this amazing tool for personal healing. On Part One, Dr. Weil discusses the physiological mechanisms behind the mind-body connection, while Dr. Gurgevich demystifies the practice of hypnosis through a concise account of its history and important case studies. On Part Two, Dr. Gurgevich introduces listeners to four trance induction methods, including trance deepening and a full session of self-healing with hypnosis. "No condition is out of bounds when it comes to the effective use of hypnotherapy," says Dr. Weil. With Heal Yourself with Medical Hypnosis, now listeners can discover this highly effective way to use the power of the mind for optimum health and well-being.

Okay. I got the CD's at the library thinking, "this might be interesting". I got through the first CD and was sold on the idea. I truly believe in the power of the mind in matters of health and whatever. However, when I got to the second CD and actually tried it for myself (I did the progressive relaxation first) I just fell asleep. I had major difficulty concentrating on the task and just slept. HOWEVER, I woke up at the start of the very next track. They said that if this happens that I was in a trance state and that I came to just as I was instructed. Also, I had very troubled sleep all night. Now I'm not sure if that has to do with what I was concentrating on, or what. So, I'm going to continue to try the technique and if I'm doing better I'll update this review.
For now, three stars. It's enjoyable, but I'm not sold on the idea yet.

If you are into alternative medicine in the form of "self-healing" via self-hypnosis and have the patience to sit for periods of time doing the work.... then this is the cd for you.

I did not listen to the first CD, as I am very familiar with this type of work, but I did listen to the second CD. Although I fell asleep and woke up intermittently throughout the three meditations I could feel the process working.

My target area was my belly (which came from 2 years of unending stress) and I must tell you in the most delicate of terms that I have noticed a major change in my digestive system.... In fact I could feel the energy shift in the middle of the second process and I can still feel it two-three days later.

My suggestion is if you are going to avail yourself of the healing techniques on this CD, that you listen to it several times to familiarize yourself with the process, so that anytime you feel the need/desire to sit & do the work, you can do it without having to listen to the audio.....

Excellent audio if you're looking for a quick explanation on what hypnosis is. Steven Gurgevich has three induction and one guided hypnosis on this CD so you know where to start. He has a great voice and it's easy to listen to him.
I've been doing one of the inductions (heavy eyes) and then the full hypnosis. While I haven't healed saggy skin (or anything else for that matter) it does have an almost immediate impact to alleviate anxiety, irritation, and overall more relaxed. And that's my friends and co-workers talking, not me :)

While there are better more in-depth and expanded books/programs on the topic, this was still a good book which is a great introduction for the newbie or reminder material for the more experienced - about our minds / mental faculty to heal the body - fascinating stuff!

This was an intriguing concept, and I was curious to test it out. The first CD provided background information on hypnosis for medical conditions, though evidence was not cited. However Andrew Weil is a well-known and respected doctor in alternative medicine community. The hypnotist also spoke on first CD about history of hypnosis for listeners who might be skeptical.

The second CD included, "self-hypnosis" techniques, but I honestly couldn't tell you if there was specific medical application or merely relaxation techniques because I fell asleep every time. I wouldn't say after listening to the second CD several times that there was any impact on health, and while I fell asleep easily, it was not a restful sleep.

I thought it was interesting to read of the success these professionals have had promoting healing with medical hypnosis. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis, but that the mind-body connection can be a powerful and useful tool when used correctly. This book has some good info and tools for learning relaxation and imagery techniques for healing and dealing with pain...hopefully it will work for me in labor.

If you have healing to do (or discomfort of any kind), I highly recommend this book. I have it in the audio version and I do the hynosis fairly regularly. I find myself able to get into a very deep trance. Also, I find I am able to achieve a deeper trance than I have with any meditation I have ever done (I meditate a lot!).

Interesting, but nothing terribly new or exciting. Pretty much meditation with a new name. I only listened to the book, but did not use the therapies. I trust that actually following their advice and using the techniques would yield more satisfaction.

I read this a few weeks ago but forgot to enter it. I have been using his techniques and find them helpful for getting to sleep easily after working on my computer and for quelling muscle soreness caused by exercise or lack thereof.
