In Gold Medal Diary , Hayley Wickenheiser, three-time Olympic gold medal winner and captain of the Canadian Women's Olympic Hockey Team, reveals her day-to-day experiences of the 2010 Games, including the six-month lead-up of intensive training and pre-Olympic tournaments. She shares the life of an Olympian — the behind-the-scenes stories, the highs and lows, physical and emotional challenges, struggles and triumphs of an elite athlete in a hyper-intense environment, including details of the public ceremonies and private moments, friendships and rivalries, community and isolation, media presence and security. For the first time ever, readers travel inside the storied Athletes’ Village and understand what it’s like to live through the most high-pressure, high-profile sporting event in the world.
It was a good read! I enjoyed the diary format that Hayley chose for this book, it made it feel personal! Though the book was good, I definitely prefer her other book, "Over the Boards" as opposed to this. Still good though!
It was a good book. It’s mostly her journal leading up to the Olympics and at the Olympics. It’s only a snapshot of her life for approximately six months ending at the conclusion of the Olympics. I have a lot of respect and how hard they trained for the games. And It brought to light the harsh realities of what It could do to people’s children while training to be at the Olympics.
The story of Haley and team Canada on their journey to the gold medal at the 2010 Olympics. Interesting with flashbacks to other points in Haley’s career.
the diary format was a really good choice for this book. I found it really interesting to see how much women's hockey has changed in just 15 years since this book came out.
This book is absolutely amazing, I don't usally watch womens hockey, I'm not a hockey player either but I'm a figure skater. I'm currently reading the book but so far it is one of the best bio books I have ever read. Hayley being the one to carry the flag for Canada for the Olympics, and her gold medal win got me inspired to read her book. I started reading the sample with me and my friend, and I said I'm totally getting this book. I spent my christmas money that i was going to use on music because I don't have barley any music to buy the book. I think after I finish reading the book I'm going to read it over and over agian
Hayley Wickenheiser is my idol so whenI found out she had a book and I received it for Christmas! I was ecstatic! It is an amazing story about her triumphs on the road to a gold medal, I loved how she took it very personally. One of my favourite books because it stars my idol, the best female hockey player of all time (move over Cassie Campbell). Seeing as I watched all the games too it was amazing to see the behind the scenes stuff too! Definitely a must read for female hockey players.
