A life changing event for me occurred at my college graduation in May of 2003. National bestselling author, Karen E. Quinones Miller, was the keynote speaker. She delivered a speech about how she had written a book, self-published it and sold so many copies on her own that major publishing houses fought to offer her a deal. I sat amongst my graduating class fully alert and attentive. It was as if Karen was talking directly to me, telling me to bypass trying to get a job in advertising copywriting and follow my true passion of becoming an author. I was unquestionably inspired and two months after graduation I began writing my first novel, Secret Society. Three months later I had a complete manuscript and was ready to move on to the next step.
I conjured up the nerve to email Karen and let her know that she had motivated me to pursue my goals of being a writer and that I had completed my first book. I asked her for tips on self-publishing. She simply told me to let self-publishing be my last resort and that I should first seek a publishing deal. I took her advice and researched the ways to go about submitting a manuscript. I sent a query letter, a synopsis, and the first three chapters of my book to Teri Woods Publishing. Teri Woods was known for publishing urban novels and thus I figured she would be interested in Secret Society. Teri Woods was not only interested, but wanted to buy my book outright and on top of that offer me a five-book deal. I was astonished. The only thing I had to do was write a second book to prove to Teri that I could produce.
I wrote Diary of a Mistress and shortly thereafter I was poised to go to New York to sign a deal with Teri Woods. I was excited and anxious, yet nervous. I was new to the publishing industry and I wasn't sure what the contract should look like, what type of deal was appropriate and most of all if selling my book outright was a smart thing to do. Once again, I conjured up the nerve to email Karen. That time she responded by telling me to call her and her telephone number was in the body of the email. She advised me not to sell my book outright and that I needed someone knowledgeable to attend the meeting with me. After realizing that her own schedule wouldn't permit her to accompany me, she took a chance and asked her agent to do so. Liza Dawson, Karen's agent, agreed to read my manuscripts over the weekend and let me know Monday whether or not she would be willing to represent me. I immediately emailed both manuscripts to Karen and Liza.
The next day I got a call from Liza telling me how good of a writer I was and offering to be my agent. I accepted and the next thing I knew, I had three major publishing houses interested in signing me. Teri Woods was notified of this and was asked for her bid. By Monday, an auction was held. Simon and Schuster was the highest bidder offering a six-figure advance and a two-book deal far exceeding my expectations as a new, unpublished author. I was in awe. Everything that has happened from then on has been a joyride. I am living my dreams and it is with thanks to Karen E. Quinones Miller. I often wonder what I would be doing or where I would be had it not been for Karen's speech those few years ago. There's no telling. But I know for sure that I am grateful that she told her story because it was truly the beginning of the success I enjoy today. Now, I feel it is my obligation to pass it on.
I am available to do speaking engagements and motivational talks at community centers, schools, group homes, prisons, outreach programs, shelters, etc. My goal is to reach as many people as I can and make a difference in the lives of others. I firmly believe To whom much is given, much is expected and indeed I have been given much.

This book was a quick read for me. I liked it because Miasha wrote about something that most writers dare not touch, because of the ignorance that will come behind it from the readers. Yes the story is about a transgendered woman, but so what? It was a human tale and had it been a "normal" person hiding a major secret i'm sure the outcome would have been the same, because trauma is trauma. Changing the sex of the character did not make the book any less than what it was to me. Yes, she spoke a lot about the different name brands that the character wore and if you know ANYTHING at all about the "gay" community you'll recognize that gay men have expensive taste and they are always trying to overcompensate when trying to be a woman. Good book. I'm reading "Never Enough" right now.
Madonna, also Seal and Eminem... they are all artists known by one name only. And this trend extends to authors, too. What makes using one's first or last name only so intriguingly attractive? In Miasha's [pronounced Me-a-sha] case, the twenty-four-year-old author's first name can only add to what her debut novel has to offer wrapped nicely in the book's deliciously looking covers. And, indeed, from its first page to the last, Secret Society doesn't let its readers down. Not a bit. Not for a moment. Although at times the context may become slightly confusing when referring to terms related to sexual identity versus sexual preference, the story of Secret Society infuses readers' minds with an endless, winding list of name brands like Chloe and D&H, nightclubs, parties, lies and heated sexual encounters, all mixed in with the innermost secrets an individual can shelter inside... Despite the light exchange of words mostly taking place between the two main characters-sexy Celess and voluptuous Tina, two childhood girlfriends barely in their twenties-their story clears the murky waters of their underground world. By exposing carefully sheltered secrets, Secret Society becomes a warning sign for the real life individuals who may find themselves in similar situations-either being taken advantage of, often unknowingly, or taking advantage of their preys while living the highlife of the rich and famous. And, as it always happens, everything (even the new glitzy life of Celess and Tina) comes with a price tag, which, in this case, spells violence, revenge, murder... and HIV. While Tina is the one to train Celess in becoming the best at "runnin' game" on unaware men and in her new life of living off her preys, can she teach Celess a deeper, more meaningful lesson in life? That's for the readers to find out in Miasha's true page-turner debut novel. Because only by immersing themselves into the underground world of Secret Society they can truly understand and become aware of the dark side of its mysterious glamour.

I'm a big Miasha fan so I had high expectations for this book and was disappointed. I am going to read the sequel "Never Enough" since I bought it, but this book could have been a lot better. Way to many different characters involved. Although the main characters were steady, so many others came thru that I had to go back and see who they were.
OMG!!!! I think every man should read this book. This is going on right now where as these gay men looking and acting like women. This book is a must read I really enjoyed readiing this I laughed and cried with Celess
My 2nd time reading this but needed a refresher because I never read the next parts. I didn’t really care for the narrator but the book was good. Celess & Tina play a dangerous game. I just don’t see how some of these men don’t realize. Secretly I think some did & it just didn’t really matter to them.
Definitely not what I was expecting . A very short read and pretty good. Poor character development , but I feel like the topic of Tina and Celess’ lifestyle is something that definitely needs to be addressed because the outcome is definitely one that can and has happened in real life . I didn’t want to read part 2, but now I want to see how the story wraps since it ended with a cliffhanger.
3.5 stars I finshed Secret Society in like 3-4 hours and it was a good but not the best book. This was the 2nd novel I read from MIasha and I enjoyed Diary of A Mistress way more than this one. Celess and Tina have a secret that no one knows about them and it eventually gets them caught up. The cons that I didnt like about this story was the detailed descriptions of the clothing (too lengthy) and there was too many characters to remember a part of the women's "game". I would recommend this novel if you are looking for a different and juicy type of storyline to read about.
What’s a secret don’t really stay a secret once people find out. Well a girl in the book Secret Society finds that out in this book. This book ad a lot going on like lies being told, secrets about sex and the drama is crazy. Some girls named Celess and Tina would tell lies left and right. They would tell men that they were woman when they are really men. The two girls (men) would also lie about what they do for a living and anything else they can lie about. They had so many secrets that people didn’t really no what to believe. Celess and Tina would have sex with other men but the way they would have sex he men wouldn’t never know nothing. They would be only ones to know. The drama would be very crazy. After awhile one of the men end up finding out there secret. He had stop messing with Celess and told his friend who messed with Tina. The guy who was messing with Tina ends up going to jail then he got out and shot both of the girls. Tina ends up dieing. When people find out about your secrets you don’t know what they would do. I really enjoyed reading the book. The lies were crazy. The sex was out of control and the drama was undefined. Pick up Secret Society you will like it.
Erm. Trying to think of something nice to say. Prose is crisp. Tons of product name-dropping that gets boring unless you like that kind of escapism.
Plot is really thin. Two young women live on handouts from rich men in exchange from mechanically describes sex. The tension centers around the potential revelation of a "secret," which, if you are old and liberal, is probably kind of old hat.
If your young and stuffy you might be biting your nails, but you'll probably be fustiated instead. And, anyways, the "secret" wouldn't be much of a plot point if the protagonist pulled her head out of her ass, got a job, and put an honest personal ad on cupid dot com.
Not the best Urban/Noire Fiction I've read, but if you really can't read anything but Urban/Noire, then... it will be good for a couple of hours while you're waiting for a book from your favorite author to come in at the library.
Definitely caught me off guard once I realized the "secret" but it held my interest my interest to follow along with Celeste and Tina's lives. I'll be reading book 2 to see what it has to offer. If you like drama you'll like this book because it was one thing after another with these ladies.
Miasha’s novel, Secret Society, is a story about two best friends, Celess and Tina, who have been friends since childhood. Now grown, their lives are full of adventure. They frequent nightclubs, date only wealthy men, and live a life of luxury. However, they harbor a serious secret that could cost them every thing.
As readers begin to read Secret Society, they will admire the friendship that exists between Celess and Tina, as it is totally unbreakable. While these two are similar in many ways, they are different in others, and that is why Celess and Tina complement each other.
Miasha does not hold back when it comes to her writing style. She brings each character to life through her vivid descriptions and dialogue. In fact, she makes her audience feel as if they are characters in the novel and personally know Celess and Tina. Also, Miasha tackles tough issues focusing on the negative aspects of the glamorous life, but she handles it in a way that readers can understand.
Overall: "Secret Society" is perfect for readers who enjoy gritty urban fiction, complex female characters, and stories that delve into the dark corners of desire and ambition. Recommendation: This book is suitable for readers who enjoy urban fiction with strong female leads, stories about female friendship and resilience, and fast-paced narratives with high stakes.
Okay, so I just randomly borrowed this book on Libby without reading the reviews. I think all in all this was a good book! There were some confusing gender identities - MTF do not typically categorize/identify themselves as gay men; they identify as women. So when she kept saying that, it broke up the story for me a bit. It felt like a misunderstanding on the author's part. Regardless, I think this book showed some of the realities of living a "double life" and being dishonest with your partners. I enjoyed it iand since it appears to be a series, I will find the next book to read.
(Secret Society" (2006, 2010 for audiobook) by Miasha is a potentially interesting novella featuring Celeste, a young, beautiful hustler who juggles different men sexually for high-end financial gain—cash, automobiles, paid rent, etc. However, she is hiding a secret that could be dangerous if the men in her life find out. The nonstop profanity and constant descriptions of who was wearing what were a turnoff for me. Also, I never grew to care about the main character. Skip this one.
I read this book without knowing what it was about and wow I was completely surprised! This was my first book to read about this lifestyle and experience and it was fascinating. I realized I had been missing something in my reading experiences and need to look for more books with this life experience.
Saw the movies first which was a big mistake, nothing like the movie for the most part. I was let down. Even if I'd read the book 1st the movie would've been a let down. Genuinely thought the movie was good until I read the book .
This one was my first book following transgender characters. I found the book to be unbelievable as I find it hard to believe men could date for months not knowing the “hardware” of their partners. Taking away the sexual freedom of choice is inhuman.
First off, I have to pat myself on the back for listening and completing this book, I see I have matured some. Secret Society by, Miasha is a book I would not read, nor listen to for that part, not because there was anything wrong other then the subject matter, which involved the two central characters, Celess and Tiny.
First I listen to the Audible.com version, which was narrated by, Claudia Aleck who by in turn did a wonderful job and it felt good to hear her voice once again after becoming acostomed to her picturent power of verbal illusions. The audiobook was published by Blackstone Audio Inc., it plays for 4 hours and 16 minutes long, which is not bad at all for such a well rounded, fast pace story.
The author Miasha calls herself a writer and she is mistaken, she is much more than a writer, she's a Storyteller. When you can enchaned and captured the being of your readers and transpored them to another demension, which voids them the knowledge of themselves, transforming them into that "fly on the wall," you have gone beyond the scope of writing, but you have created a solid foundation within the space of a persons mind from an illusion makes you that of a Storyteller.
The story is about two young peoples working hard to obtain something quickly, which can only be obtain with vested time and oneself. Now you know I never say much about a story because if I tell it to you, then why read it. -But as I said had I known firsthand about the main characters lifestyle, I would not picked this novel to listen to, or to read and the reason for that is because I'm a man, and at my age I know that to be a fact, so their lifestyle challenged me and I was not bothered by Celess and Tiny being who they were, and who they are, and what they do turns this into a must read or must listen to novel. These two ladies give gold diggers a run for their money, and as life would have it when live in the fast lane, you are bound to crash and that does come to past.
I gave Secret Society an 4.5 out of 5 stars. The book is a fast read, with a fast pace storyline. I do believe you would enjoy it even if it's not your normal cup of tea. You might even learn a few things.
Wow. This book is something else. I feel silly for not reading the reviews before I purchased this and for not putting two and two together when looking at the cover. This book definitely isn't my cup of tea but nevertheless, I liked the main characters and this quick read novel was actually interesting. The descriptive transexual sex scences is what turned me off and turned my stomach. I could have done without those. I agree with a few other reviewers that said they didn't connect with the characters. I think that is the reason I didn't feel bad about the ending. If you play with fire, you get burned. Homosexual men living as women and purposely deceiving straight men is a dangerous game. I feel like I related more with how a straight man would feel after finding out the "woman" he spent lots of money on, fell in love with, and made love to (unprotected mind you) was actually a man with a penis on top of that. I was shaking my head throughout the majority of this novel. Constantly reading about how many designers they could pile on their bodies at once got on my nerves as well. Wearing designer gear doesn't make you a woman! I also don't think this novel is very realistic. I'm sure in real life there are transvestites that trick straight men but for a whole year with secret anal sex?! I highly doubt it. Why don't the actual straight men in this book wonder why their "women" only screw in the dark, why they never see or touch their private parts, why their "women" never change in front of them, and why can't they tell a vagina from and anus?! Isn't there an odor afterward?! Seriously. Don't spend money on this book, I urge you to borrow it if you even waste the time reading it.
Miasha's book called Secret Society, is an overwhelming story about two males name charlie and thomas, who changed their names to celess and tina. They started dressing as women whent hey were fifteen years old. When tina's grandmother found out, she kicked him out. When celess's mother found out, she blamed him for the reason why her husband left her, kicked him out, and disowned him. The two started living together and went crazy. They had surgery everywhere else but their private parts. Now they are walking around with female features, boobs, a butt, but they still have male parts below the waist. The key moment that stuck out to me was when one of tina's men found out he was a man and came back to kill her. When he arrived at their house, he ended up shooting both celess and tina. Only one survived and one died. You're going to have to read the book to find out which one died. The amazing thing about this story is that, the man don't know that celess and tina are really charlie and thomas. How do they have sex and still not know? I HAVE NO IDEA!!!
