As Americans, liberty is an inalienable right that is granted to us by God, protected by the Constitution, and upheld by our government. Yet, Barack Obama doesn’t seem to share that view. To him, liberty is a threat to the government’s power and something to be squashed by any means possible, as bestselling author David Limbaugh shows to devastating affect in his new book, Crimes Against Liberty. In Crimes Against Liberty, Limbaugh issues a damning indictment of President Barack Obama for encroaching upon and stripping us of our individual and sovereign rights. Laying out his case like he would a criminal complaint, Limbaugh presents the evidence—count-by-count—against Obama. From exploiting the financial crisis for political gain, to restricting our personal freedoms through invasive healthcare and “green” policies, to endangering America with his feckless diplomacy and reckless dismantlement of our national security systems, Limbaugh proves—beyond a reasonable doubt—that Obama is guilty of crimes against liberty. Comprehensive and compelling, this is Limbaugh’s most powerful book yet.
David Limbaugh is a conservative American political commentator and author. He is the younger brother of talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.
David Limbaugh has a bachelor's degree, cum laude, in political science and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Missouri. He also served in the National Guard for six years. He has written columns which are carried by Creators Syndicate, Townhall.com, WorldNetDaily, Jewish World Review, and The Washington Times.
I've recently come to the conclusion that Liberals and Conservatives simply live in completely different realities. It's not just a matter of perspective, where we disagree on our different interpretations of reality. No, we have come to the point where we can no longer even agree on what is happening before our very eyes.
Limbaugh's book here is a case in point. Of course, I can't be surprised. He's Rush's brother, after all, and has a certain jock to be riding. So, I wasn't exactly expecting reasoned discourse here.
Basically, Limbaugh launches the book with the premise that Obama is a sociopathic, narcissistic, racist, anti-Semite, Stalinist, wannabe dictator who's out to destroy this country. Then he goes from there.
Then Rush, Jr., takes us on a magic carpet ride of innuendo, half-explained "facts" (the half that is only favorable to his argument), and a whole bunch of shit I've never even heard of and I'm doubting if they ever happened. Of course, it is heavily footnoted from such fellow traveler sources as Fox News, the Heritage Foundation, and the Washington Times in an ever-swirling echo chamber of Conservative conspiracy theory delusion.
One great example is how Limbaugh repeatedly claims that Obama "claims" to have stepped into office in the middle of a financial collapse, two open-ended wars, and ballooning deficits. Limbaugh implies that none of this actually happened, that Obama is simply making it all up so that he can destroy this country and the world. He implies it as though none of us are old enough or smart enough to remember what happened less than three years ago.
But these assumptions seemed to have taken hold with Limbaugh's audience. After all, he's not the only one making these claims that can only be backed up in the Conservative media. They are ALL saying stuff like that. They're saying it so much and so often, they must be making people believe, people who hate Obama so much that they've decided to bend their own conceptions of reality, to warp the truth into whatever's convenient to their beliefs, and say whatever is necessary to make sure the self-delusion sticks.
It is all utterly amazing and just way too depressing that pundits like Limbaugh exist parading themselves as journalist who feel absolutely no responsibility to the Truth. And to realize that fools like this one has millions of followers in America makes me wanna move to France, or something.
When I review any current events or political book I know it's pretty sure to stir up some...controversy.
I'd suggest that you consider reading this book. I know that its very existence will anger some but on the whole it's nothing more than a litany of facts. Yes there is some opinion and I can't say that in every single case I come to the same conclusion as the writer (though I often already have.). Still most of the book is not opinion it is simple, recorded fact.
I suppose I could go over some things in the book, the problem with doing that is that it may give a false impression about the content of the volume. I think in a way it's unfortunate that the book is already out as one of the most startling events of the last 3.5 years has just occurred and is still developing.
When President Obama was candidate Obama it seems that a huge portion of the electorate placed on him a sort of "template" of what they wanted to believe about him. Some well known (supposedly) conservative columnists and republicans chose endorse him. These and others simply decided not to take his congressional voting record into account. In spite of one of the most left wing voting records in either house, many, many people proclaimed that if elected candidate Obama would "rule" as a moderate. They chose to ignore his circle of friends, his influences and conclude that, once elected he'd be a moderate.
Surprisingly...he didn't.
Huh....
I could say more but again I think it best to read the book in order and consider it as a whole and in the light of the facts it presents.
So, just a suggestion, if you'd like to think about what has occurred the last four years and what it may mean..both in context, for the country in general and for the country in the next four years maybe you could read it? Just a thought.
To me, the book was an election year political TV commercial gone bad. Like the election year commercials (from either side of the political spectrum), facts tend to be cherry-picked and quotes are often taken out of context to support the perspective of the candidate. Political commercials of either political party during election time wear me out, and they often run for only 30 seconds. So a book length version of more of the same was more than I bargained for and left me unsatisfied with this book. I found it more politicized and one-sided than I hoped for. Even George Bush, in his book "Decision Points", admitted to some mistakes and policies which didn't work, leaving some things unsettled for his successor. But there's little if any of these allowances for the current administration in this book. I also found it interesting how many of the health care ideas in this book, used to show how Obama is leading the nation to destruction, come right out the coprorate talking points generated by the Health Insurance industry, as discussed in Wendell Potter's book "Deadly Spin". In that book, Potter, a former Insurance PR head in the health insurance industry, prepared press releases and fact sheets which he now acknowleges as being developed solely to protect corporate profits - not to protect health and welfare of the American public. Those press releases became the facts which the public was hearing over the past several years, and the facts used in books like this to show anti-American leanings of Obama. However, if you're a fan of Limbaugh (Rush or David), you've probably heard these ideas before and should find the arguments soothing and quite convincing, and will likely love the book.
I mean I already knew Obama was a bad President, but Limbaugh carefully documents just how disastrous his anti-American, statist-socialist policies and opinions have been.
Quote: "All government run healthcare systems ration care - either directly by denying or limiting certain types of treatment, or indirectly by imposing cost constraints through budgets, waiting lines, and/or limited technology. One million British people are awaiting admission to government run hospitals at any given time. And shortages result in the cancellation of some 100,000 operations annually. New Zealanders experience similar troubles. Swedes can wait for heart surgery, up to 25 weeks. And 800,000 Canadian patients are on waiting lists. Moreover, an Investor's Business Daily poll found Obamacare will cause up to 45% of doctors to retire early."
I just heard a poll today that 27% of Democrats want their party to replace Obama on the 2012 ticket.
When you make the Carter era look good, and staunch Republicans opine for the Clinton years, then you have accomplished something massive...a massive failure that is!
How's that hope and change work out there for you?
This is the second David Limbaugh book I've read. Like the first, it is thoughtful and well-researched. Yet, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, it is not riveting.... not exciting, but merely interesting. Still, one can learn a great deal about the disfunctional, and at times postitively malicious actions of our current administration under Presient Obama. One could find examples of crimes against liberty practiced by many past Presidents at one time or other: still, if one is to believe Limbaugh (and his documentation makes it easy) then President Obama has taken special care to ensure that he has committed as many as possible in as short a time as possible. Especially disturbing over the long term are the Crimes against the Constitution and the rule of law that Limbaugh charges him with:
* Ruling by personal and ideological whim, in which the Constitution is regarded as an impediment. * That he has surrounded himself with czars unaccountable to the legislative branch. * That he has appointed activist judges who care not about constitutional constraints including Elana Kagan who in her undergrad thesis lamented the decline in socialism in the US. * That he has appointed corrupt officials such as Timothy Giethner who are expected to uphold US law while cheating on his taxes, and ends-justifies-the means advisors. * That he and his appointees often treat the public as children who need to be educated on the importance of their particular liberal/socialist programs. *Intimidating and/or coercing numerous private corporations to get on board with his programs or face bullying tactics beyond the ordinary scope of the executive branch. * Abusing the use of executive orders to give him powers far beyond those given to the executive branch by the Constitution. * Using stimulus money as a private slush fund to reward/punish his supporters/critics. *Manipulating the CBO to write reports favorable to his programs. * Using the transportation department not to increase commercial opportunities but to dictate and change citizens transportation choices. * Using environmental laws to limit economic freedom. * Using anti-free speech tactics to muzzle opposition, rather than to just argue his case. * And politicizing the department of Justice.
In spite of my conservative viewpoint, and the fact that I pretty much agree with David Limbaugh's assessment of President Obama (a narcissistic, fraudlent, lying, divisive, hyper-partisan, dictatorial, and imperious bully, just to list the chapter subtitles), I found this book a real slog to get through. It's almost 400 pages of specific examples that support all of the adjectives and nouns listed above, plus several others. Maybe I'm not the intended audience for this book - maybe it should be read by those citizens who consider themselves "independents", and are not already predisposed to agree with the author. But after 400 pages, I'm not sure I really learned anything I didn't already know (or suspect), and that's a significant time commitment for little payoff other than positive head-nodding, and no entertainment value to speak of.
I've listened to David Limbaugh on several podcasts, and I think he's a strong voice for political conservatism, but I just can't say more about his book than "it was ok", and give it two stars.
The author thoroughly documents how Obama is purposely destroying our country. He makes the subject easy to read and very understandable. It just is very depressing that our president really wants to destroy all that is good in this country.
Limbaugh's criminal argument would carry more weight if he connected the string of corruption from the presidencies over the last few decades. Focusing on Obama alone, makes Limbaugh look shallow and querulous.
Nonetheless, this book is well-researched and captures many important events during the Obama presidency. Sadly, the book tends to drag the reader through repetitive tirades. If Limbaugh dropped the petulant tone, this book would be much easier to read. Obama's presidency was reckless and at some times malicious. I would imagine that most presidencies have veered on a similar path of corruption.
If you want to learn more about Obama's presidency, this book is worth at least a quick perusal.
David Limbaugh sets the tone of the book by starting with a bunch of ranting & unsupported, generalized conclusions against President Obama. To his credit, he does give specific examples to support his position in subsequent chapters. As with all highly biased, emotional viewpoints, some of the examples are relevant and some are not. If you are a critical reader, you can pick out bits & pieces of info. If you're far right wing, this book will make you feel validated.
I didn't finish the book, but only because my library term expired.
This man needs to get a clue..... One star is being generous, I could not get through the first 10 pages. This author needs to take as many course in government as possible, and learn to give respect. Will never read any book this man write, he is very narrow minded and wants to make sure to come across as it here is only one way to think and that is his way.
If you read this book and don’t like it, it’s because you don’t like what you are learning. Roughly 90 pages of citations back up this 300 hundred page synopsis of the last two years.
Limbaugh seems to play the part of trial lawyer prosecuting Obama for "crimes" against Americans & the Constitution and backs up his claims thoroughly. He defines narcissism and explains in detail why he (and others) believe Obama to be narcissistic. Disturbingly, Adolf Hitler has been psudo-diagnosed as clinically narcissistic by many psychologists & Limbaugh draws some parallels between the 2 men in this book. As a student (and former teacher of) history, I drew even more parallels between Obama & Hitler myself: both known to be mesmorizic speakers, both folded (or attempted to) private businesses/industries into govt control, both claimed gradiose plans for the future of their nations, both lied outright, both were not close to (both strongly desired to be) close to their fathers, both garnered huge almost worshipful crowds while really being ambivilant about the people, both lied outright to get what they wanted, both took advantage of national crisis to gain more power, both using thug-like & bullying tactics to intimidate people or groups of people in order to change govt laws to suit their own agenda or needs, both tried to change history for their own gains (particularly their own early life history), both seemed to carry the attitude that they - and only they - could carry their nation to greatness. I found his description of Obama's tunnel-vision-like pursuit of "ObamaCare" comparison to Capt Ahab's obsessive pursuit of the great white whale (Moby Dick) fascinating.
As Limbaugh went on to explain the character, habits, and personality, of Obama I found myself drawing parallels of my own between him & Richard Nixon. As personality goes, Nixon was ill-suited for the Presidency. He was extremely academic & intelligent but was very reluctant to HONESTLY face the media. He believed he knew what was best for the country & he wanted Americans (including the media) to simply accept what he said/did - not question him. He therefore was possibly better suited as a university professor. Obama is more comfortable in front of the cameras than Nixon ever was, but like Nixon, is extremely academic/intelligent and also seems better suited as a college professor. Obama also is as thin-skinned as Nixon who never took critism well from collegues & media either. Obama also seems to want us all to simply take what he says/does & not question or dissent. Also tellingly, Nixon lied outright to Americans: "...I'm not a crook." Well, he WAS a crook! Many of Obama's claims have been outright lies as well! But disturbingly, most of the media seem to worship Obama & don't honestly report him - Nixon never had that, the media HATED him. But both have(had) the attitude of "if you're not with me, then you're against me & you are my enemy & must be destroyed"
Nixon tried to use the FBI to spy against his political enemies. Hitler had his own little Stormtroopers to do his dirty work. Obama has used the media to ruin the reputations of opponents/dissenters. Nixon sent men to break into the headquarters of his political opponents. Obama has a history of sending certain minions to hack into email, homes, businesses, etc of opponents. Nixon tried to circumvent laws & the Constitution and over-step his authority (anyone remember that he once "over-rode" Congress' over-ride to his veto?). Obama has circumvented numerous laws & checks/balances of the Constitution with his "czars" & "executive orders." FDR tried to do that as well when he tried to "pack the courts" to circumvent Congress' opposition to his own radical socialist agenda in the 1930s.
I found the 1st 1/2 of the book to be an almost play-by-play for the GOP offensive plan for the 2012 election. Over-all, I found this book to be a cautionary tale. People need to do their research. Read/watch the news from many sources, not just one. Read books, discuss events with family & friends. Nixon was stopped before he became too powerful & did enough damage as it was. FDR should have been prevented from running for a 3rd term as we are still feeling the damage from his time in office. Most of all to be remembered: Hitler did not become a powerful dictator over-night. He used the crisis of post-WWI Germany to his advantage & the people let him - little by little. They surrendered their freedoms a little at a time because he made things easier in the immediate future or in the here-and-now: he fed them, protected them, employed them, started programs for their children that seemed so innocent, so good to begin with . . . The brutality came when it was too late for the German people to do anything about it or to fight back. They were lulled into a sense of a false better future for them & their children. They so easily believed what Hitler told them & didn't question until it was too late.
Sometimes, I find it difficult to review timely political books. It's not because I may find the subject matter objectionable in any way; rather, it's because most often the book involves either a sitting politician whose effectiveness is still being shaped or a currently popular political ideology that may not endure beyond the next election. In either case, I try to stick with reviewing the merits of the author's main premise while ignoring some of the lesser foibles along the way.
With that sole qualifier, I'm pleased to say how much I enjoyed and agreed with David Limbaugh's CRIMES AGAINST LIBERTY: AN INDICTMENT OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. As Mark Levin's observation states from the cover ("... the most effective skewering of Obama's contempt for the Constitution and our nation's foundations that I have yet read."), it's very clear that Limbaugh has done ample legwork to support his position: CRIMES includes a massive one hundred pages of notations and citations supporting the work therein. Largely, Limbaugh covers Obama in totality - with some references to his days as an Illinois politico, through his Presidential campaign, on up to the first two years of Obama's time in the Oval Office. As a result, he effectively paints Obama and the activity of his followers to be usurping power in direct contradiction to their roles in (or beyond, or absent of terms within) the U.S. Constitution.
Where I honestly believe CRIMES could've benefitted from greater exploration (or, at least, an area that specifically interested me) is in the possible motivations for politicos to behave in this manner. This isn't to say that Limbaugh doesn't make credible arguments depicted Obama and his administration as perhaps power-addicted charlatans willing to tell a lie one day only to contradict themselves when it's politically expedient to do so; he does, but I guess that I, as a reader, have a hard time accepting that Obama and his companions behave this way because they consciously believe they've been given a mandate by the American people. Don't misunderstand me because Limbaugh goes to great lengths to chart Obama's stated intention to "radically transform America" into ways that defy the natural political systems in place for over two centuries. It's just that I find it hard to believe that a desire to do this must be far more firmly rooted in some unspoken or hidden motivations than, perhaps, Constitutional ignorance.
What Liberals and Progressives have been doing since the `Democrat Insurgency of 2006' gets amble coverage in CRIMES, and the book should really serve as a calling card to any politician who believes the power of the American people can be simply ignored or suppressed despite the ballot boxes, opinion polls, and sheer hard work. I'm certainly willing to concede that the elections of 2010 may serve as a bit of a roadblock for President Obama, but nothing covered here in Limbaugh's book makes me believe that the `Radical-in-Chief' is going to serve with any other political persuasion throughout the remainder of his first term in office. And, as I said, there's ample citation to support that rather grim reality.
If nothing else, coming away from CRIMES should make everyone think much more deeply about the pre-packaged efforts that goes into political speech on both sides of the aisle. (Yes, I'm talking to you, too, Republicans-In-Name-Only.) Watching how one conducts himself (or herself) with respect to understanding and executing the affairs of a constituency is a lesson everyone needs to be reminded of from time to time, and, if anything, I strongly believe that is the message of the 2010 Elections.
As I stated, CRIMES ends basically at the midpoint of Obama's first term, and there may well be many more examples to come over the course of the next two years. Hopefully, an ever more watchful public - along with pundits and scholars like David Limbaugh - will keep eyes on all politicos (for there are quite a few in and around DC), document the alleged Constitutional violations, and put out the word so that all of us, together, can rise up and be heard. This far, no further. And, hopefully, we can keep such charlatans out of all public service for the foreseeable future.
Often times the problem with contemporary books is that if you're a current events junky like myself much of the book is redundant material. If one is not a current events junky and wants a good overview of the last three years I think Crimes Against Liberty makes a good companion piece to Michelle Malkin and her book Culture of Corruption. Where Culture of Corruption focuses on the cronyism inherent in politics specifically in the Democratic party and in Illinois state politics (Obama's origins), Limbaugh looks at the dishonesty and malpractice of the Obama campaign and his administration in general. Some highlights for me where the opening chapters about the campaign which highlighted the charm offensive of the Obama campaign that brought in many conservatives (including fairly influential people within the movement). Although the bloom has come off the rose in recent months reflecting on the campaign reveals Obama's skill as a politician and bringing people into the fold (although not in the book I still chuckle at Obama's speech on "Obamacans"). Another highlight for me was the discussion of AmeriCorps which was a story that pretty much came and went. The AmeriCorps story reveals that the administrations agenda trumps party loyalty in most cases and is reflective of the very nature of American politics today again pointing to the corruption and cronyism that pervades both parties. Just a quick note on the review, this is a partisan book, Limbaugh is a conservative and there is a fair amount of bias in the book, but just taking the facts I think the book is revealing and exposes some of the questionable things that Obama says about unity, red and blue states and certainly bi-partisanship.
An amazingly well researched dissection of the current administration in its own words and actions backed by a vast amount of research. I set my alarm clock at 9:11 P.M. to awaken me every night in preperation for my night shift and I wear an M-65 field jacket in desert digital camoflauge with numerous 9-11-2001 patches. I am former military and former law enforcement. No need to qaulify where my political stance is. However I believe even those that do support Obama should read this book, just so that they can get to know who their commander in chief actually is. With a presidential election looming on the horizon this actually should be a primer for anyone that claims they are proud to be an American. I will say this book can be quite weighty and that in itself does almost place this into a category reserved for a text book. With that perhaps this should be a book that would not be so much read as studied. And studied very carefully. I believe that we live in a very special country and to read about an American president that is so bent on destroying all that our ancestors have shed their blood and given their lives for can also be a little nauseating. After reading this I just wish to say, God Bless America, and hope that we can continue to do so in the future.
I never finished it and I threw it out when we moved last summer. I was so depressed after the last presidential election I had to stop listening and reading things about politics for a while. It just makes me mad to know all of the unlawful things that Obama does and no one does anything about it. We put up with all his junk just because he's the first black president and it makes me sick. I can't stand to read about it any more. There's no point in bringing it up if no one will do anything about it. I have helped with campaigns, I have phoned members of Congress, I have donated money. I feel like there is nothing I can do to change government.
No offense to David Limbaugh. I think he is a fine American, but my depression lasted for two years. I am just now starting to listen to Rush again but it's very limited, and I haven't renewed any subscriptions. I follow and donate to the Heritage Foundation, but that is all. We just have to do what we can to defend family, faith, and freedom.
It is so challenging being an independent when it comes to politics. There seems no point in blaming either party and you are already admitting that you like bits and pieces of each political philosophy. I try to read a balance of right and left wing stuff. There were a few points in this book that I found over-emphasized. But overall I got a very interesting perspective on our president. Not shockingly to anyone who knows me, but the financial part of government is extra perplexing to me. Even I (an admitted economically challenged person) am able to comprehend that proposing huge pieces of legislation that require billions and billions of dollars to fund them (Obamacare) Cannot be good for our already huge deficit... Even if (as is claimed .. it was inherited...) I will be continued to be fascinated by all things political.. any suggestions for what to read next ?
"Limbaugh presents the evidence—count-by-count—against Obama. From exploiting the financial crisis for political gain, to restricting our personal freedoms through invasive healthcare and “green” policies, to endangering America with his feckless diplomacy and reckless dismantlement of our national security systems, Limbaugh proves—beyond a reasonable doubt—that Obama is guilty of crimes against liberty."
This is the documented deciet & lies of Obama, a megalomaniacal narcissist with charm. I was aware of much of this content having paid attention during Barack's disastrous reign, but it's nice to have it all layed out in detail.
As with his other book, "The Great Destroyer" if you are a blinder wearing Obama lover, not wanting to be confused with facts--this may not be the book for you.
I am not sure how to rate this book really. I am not happy with what the book says, but it is exceptionally well documented. Anyone who wishes to disregard this book will have trouble refuting it on fact. Mr. Limbaugh presents the facts as they are and it is hard to come to any other conclusions than those drawn out here. Anyone who wishes to argue these points with me from now on will have to come well documented as Mr. Limbaugh provided his sources. No longer can the anti-Bush crowd simply blame the last President, nor use platitudes to protect the current President's performance. I encourage everyone to read this book and examine the research provided. As November proved Americans realize what is going on, those on the fence still need to quit listening to rhetoric and try this book.

A compelling indictment of President Barack Obama and his offenses against Americans, American Institutions and America's General Welfare and National Security. Preconceived notions of him, his agenda and his czars will either be confirmed or will be changed after reading this book. Powerful evidence of hypocrisy, dishonesty, radicalism and corruption in this administration. A New York Times #1 Bestseller, arm yourself with knowledge before the next election.
The author alleges that President Obama has taken actions during his campaigns and administration that are crimes against the United States of America. He covers lying to America, bullying his critics and opponents, cutting discriminatory deals to get his healthcare act passed, violatining the Constitution with his executive directives, and his attitude of "My way or the highway." I would have liked to have seen more evidence given.
A well complied book of all the failings and overreaches of the Obama administration. Very little new information for readers in the right wing echo chamber (as am I), but is it nice to review. The documentation is excellent and although the book is written from an editorial perspective, there is very little speculation.
Wow. David Limbaugh has written one of the best thought-out and researched arguments against the direction that the current Administration's designs on the future of the United States has taken us. A great companion book to Dinesh D'souza's "Roots of Obama's Rage", this book should be read BEFORE, not after.
Honestly didn't read past the first four chapters or so. Yes it is a well researched perspective into the shading background, opinions and actions of President Barrack Obama, but it does just drone on and on and is strictly a negative 'bashing' account. I'd simply prefer to spend my time reading material that is either more entertaining or actually useful.
Highly detailed recounting of every liberty-crushing action taken by President Obama. It gets a little long in reading the endless recollections of lists of things done by Obama and his cabinet, but this is also its greatest strength. It serves as an archive of what happened so that as our memory fades, we can turn to works like this to remind us of how things went down.
An academic intellectual, a constitutional scholar, community organizer, raised in the Muslim culture, formed by Chicago politics, influenced by a hate America pastor, without any noticeable contribution as an Illinois senator, shreds the constitution while denying American exceptionalism: and he is elected president twice. We live in a culture of shallow worship of celebrity vs. integrity.
Though this book goes into great length to display the hypocrisy and double-talk of President Obama and his failed policies, I never could quite get over the fact that the alternatives implied were not really any better in the long run for liberty.
