She's a cut above the average sleuth....Reyn Marten Sawyer is a San Antonio hair stylist with a head for solving murders! Dye Young, Stay Pretty
Reyn is getting conditioned to normal life after untangling the murder of her beloved mentor. So she's a little frosted by a late-night call from wealthy Alexandra Barrister, desperate for Reyn's help with a hair crisis. She arrives at the imposing Barrister estate -- and wishes she was packing more than a hot brush when she finds the body of Alexandra's socialite mother, arranged with her hair standing on end, cemented into place by a killer with a macabre style sense. Reyn suspects she's being framed by Alexandra, and even handsome detective Jackson Scythe may not be able to save her scalp...unless they go undercover to undo a killer with a whole new twist on having a bad hair day.
This book was lots of fun to read. I love Reyn and her snarky attitude. Had me laughing out loud from the start. It's a great amateur sleuth mystery with a heroine who is a hairdresser.
Reyn is a hairdresser with a nose for trouble. When one of her clients (Lexa) calls her in the middle of the night with a hair emergency of her socialite mother, Reyn agrees to assist. Instead shes faced with a corpse whos face is painted up like a clown and hair standing staight up in the air like Frankenstein. When the cops bust in, Reyn is immediately arrested for the murder. But Jackson releases her after the hairbrained story, and Reyn decides to do some investigating of her own to clear her friend's name. Reyns adventures include a drug bust at a night club on 6th Street in Austin, A Junior League meeting at a fancy hotel, and getting stuck at the top of a roller coaster at Fiesta TX in SanAntonio. Her friends always seem to dress her in the most gawd-awful attire.
In all honesty, Im glad this series is over with. While I struggled through the first book, this second in series was a bit better. The main charactr, Reyn is too nice to people which can get irritating, she's a bit dim witted and too trusting. However when it comes to the sexy cop Jackson Skythe, she gets a sassy mouth. Theres a little to much character whiplash going on. The author spent a bit too much time with Reyns thoughts which made the story drag. I was able to guess the killer pretty easy. The end of the story left a cliffhanger, but like I stated before, Im glad the series is done because there hasnt been another book written in this series in 5 years.
Not the most thrilling whodunit I've ever read, but I did love reading about hairdresser Reyn's adventures in the San Antonio area. Extra points for inside knowledge of the SA Junior League (I'm a former member and some of the details were surprisingly accurate).
