Good Little Wives: A Murder Mystery Where Suburban Trophy Wives Hide Deadly Secrets

Rate this book
While their husbands are out making money, making deals, and making . . . whatever, the trophy wives of New Falls are slipping not so quietly into middle age. Lauren, Bridget, Dana, and Caroline pretend to each other that their only problems are parties, plastic surgery, and which Mikimotos to buy. But behind the closed doors of their gracious homes there are broken hearts and broken promises . . . the stuff that gossip is made of.

And the newest dish du jour is a whopper! The husband of one of their oldest friends, who dumped his wife for a newer model—a sexier, flashier, sleeker hairdresser—is found dead, his ex-wife, Kitty, standing over him . . . holding the smoking gun.

Kitty claims she's innocent, and there are plenty of women around town who might want the rat dead. Now it's up to the women to discover where in their high-priced suburb a killer is hiding, and which good little wife has done something very, very wicked.

This was good even though I couldn't keep all the ladies straight sometimes.

Well, when I picked it up, I figured it would be mindless fluff, so I was not disappointed. It was exactly that. It was 'Desperate Houswives' set to print...but without the humor. It was purely mindless reading, which, at times, can be good. Given that this was the week back to work after nearly two weeks off, I didn't want to think too hard when I was reading, so it hit the spot. But, I definitely will not be reading it again.

The mystery was interesting enough to keep me reading but I wish there were fewer characters to keep track of. The surprise reveal/answer to the mystery at the end wasn't that exciting but it was good to have a wrap-up to the story.

I picked it up when i was stranded for a few hours in a rural town. I wanted a light read and that's exactly what i got. Overall it wasn't bad, i enjoyed reading it and it definitely passed some time. The only issue i had with it is that everyone seemed to have a secret and not just a small one. I rolled my eyes quite a few times when a new secret was revealed. A quick, easy and entertaining read.

At the beginning of the book, I thought it was hopeless! The plot was boring and dull. I didn't give a damn about the characters because they were all so weird and snobby. And each main character, Dana, Bridget, Caroline, and Lauren, kept calling themselves snobs. Well if they thought they were such snobs, then do something about it! Then the author dumped in a strange murder twist that these silly dimwitted women were going to go about solving! Thankfully, the book was not only short but a fast read. I have to say, I did get a little more involved in the storyline but not that much. The book went all over the place with the murder plot and what woman was doing what. Some of the things were just crazy and off the wall. Way to much to believe! Then everything was literally strangely tied up in a neat little bow. This was one of the strangest books I have ever read. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not worth the time. 2 stars.

What a piece of garbage book. It's like a soap opera for the suburban rich with no scruples or reality. Of course, that didn't stop me from reading it to see what all the secrets were- but seriously what a waste.

It started off like it was going to be a fun, dishy read, but it started to get mundane and cliched after awhile. Why did I keep reading it, you ask? Because it was a quick read and I was behind in my book-reading challenge, that's why.

Meh. Entertaining enough. The author waited until almost the last page to reveal whodunnit. I think it would have been better to reveal that a tad earlier and then give more of the aftermath.

This was a fun little story. I know others rated it in the middle or lower, but I enjoyed it. The ladies were entertaining, all having a secret. You have the usual characters can't stand and the ones you take a liking to. The mystery kept me guessing, but I had it figured out once, then changed my mind. Then it turns out I should not have changed my mind. Lol. I enjoyed it so much that I just started the authors book "Perfect Little Ladies." Keep in mind, this is a light mystery/ friends kind of story, so if you are expected to find a deep detective story, this isn't it. But the synopsis should have told you that, so don't rate it like it should have been a deep detective story. :-). It's a good story.

I got this book in a book exchange years ago and finally picked it up to read as a palate cleanser... it reminded me that I like good literature. This is not that. It was a semi-entertaining story of high society women in New York and what they're up to while their husbands are away, but it was very predictable and pretty poorly written. The "twists" weren't really twists. Overall a letdown, I wouldn't recommend.

This was a great read. We all want to be one of “the wives” but glad we aren’t. A who done it book with heartaches, secrets, and a little love.
I was flip flopping back and forth as to who done it and of course was wrong.
Definitely a book that I would recommend and so glad I bought it for me sister, I of course had to read before sending it to her:-).

I picked this book up from a new Little Free Library on my street, and it far exceeded my expectations. It’s about a group of women in an elite New York town, and there’s a lot of drama, including a murder and a fair bit of secrets - secret lives, secret lovers. This wasn’t a five star book, but I would give it 4.5 if I could!

I really can't believe this book got published. The story is ok and engaging until the ending. It simply states a scenario and thats the end. no explanation. That's just what happened. As if the author got 98% through and then just said I'm tired I'm going to bed and just slapped a conclusion together. Waste of time.

It starts a little slow, but at 75% I couldn’t put it down! I normally don’t like books that flit between perspectives of several characters, but it works so well for this story and the thrilling mystery surrounding the wives of New Falls!

For a small book, it had lots of secrets and twists. It took me a minute to figure out who each section was about because it wasn't made very clear in the book. Lots of high society secrets and issues.

The only reason I give this book two stars instead of just one is because it would be a great read on vacation. Fun and sometimes funny but not a whole lot of substantial plot going on.

Like just about every other reviewer has stated, this is basically Desperate Housewives. But I didn’t really care about any of the people in it. It wasn’t terrible, it just wasn’t good.

Bit slow at first, then got better about halfway through. It's a good read if you're just looking for a quick read through.

There were so many possibilities of side stories, but I felt like the author didn't dice into those as much. Rushed ending.

It was cute, but an insanely bizarre read. I enjoyed it, although I kept getting the characters confused since it jumped around so much 3.75 ⭐️

So if this books description reads like the synopsis of Desperate Housewives...you're not far off. In a small town in New York were the Wall Street elite live, the trophy wives are hiding more secrets than a sinner in church. When a murder of one of the husbands rocks the community, the top wives become embroiled in the investigation and their secrets from adultery to well adultery are revealed.

The characters are interesting and some of them get a redemption arc that leaves you feeling less than disgusted with the whole lot of them. On the other hand, the local police's openness about their investigation with some of the people of interest seems a bit surreal.

There are a few plot twists that will leave you with a question mark over your head. "Huh, what just happened?" And no one in my book club suspected the killer so you'll be left guessing until the very end. Still, the final clue that gives the killer away seems a bit thin.

Overall, it's an easy read, but it's no great work of literature. Interesting, but not worth the effort to track down a print copy (it's out of print) if you don't have an e-reader. And the digital formatting needs a bit of work as there were places where the paragraphs or changes in viewpoint were not spaced apart correctly in the Nook version.

This book is an easy read as many other reviewers have stated. I didn't really love the book--at first I thought there were too many characters, but by the end there is a core group that are important. A lot of the plot twists were really unbelievable for me; I didn't think the story was predictable, but rather so unpredictable that it was ridiculous, especially when it came to the lies that the wives were hiding. (Honestly, I don't really understand any excuse for hiding a diagnosis of cancer from loved ones.)

The ending wasn't at all what I expected either, because I expect better endings. Not that I expect them to all be happy, but again, I do have standards for plot resolution that this story didn't meet. As another reviewer mentioned, more of a description of the aftermath of murders would have been appreciated.

I really enjoyed reading this book, as it was something more than I'd hoped. I thought it was just going to be affairs and social snobbery, but when I actually started reading it and there was a murder mystery to be had, I was pleasantly surprised. The twists of the plot were somewhat unexpected and it was an interesting peek into the secret lives of the privileged that many of us... less affluent folks don't really get to consider.

Good Little Wives is a page-turner that leaves you wondering up to the last handful of pages who really killed Vincent DeLano and then satisfies your curiosity for who and why.
