كثيراً ما ننسى أن الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي لم ينشأ عام ١٩٤٨ عند إعلان إنشاء الدولة، بل كان منشؤه في عام ١٩١٧ قبيل انتهاء الحرب العالمية الأولى، حينما أرسل بلفور وزير الخارجية البريطاني آنذاك خطابه الشهير إلى لورد روتشيلد أحد زعماء اليهود في بريطانيا والذي تعهد فيه بإقامة وطن قومي لليهود في فلسطين. عُرِفَ الخطاب فيما بعد بوعد بلفور، وكان البذرة الأولى للمصائب والمظالم والمجازر التي نعاني منها حتى هذه اللحظة.

قراءة هذا الكتاب في هذا الوقت بالذات أعطته زخماً وأهمية لا حد لهما، خاصة أن الكتاب يستعرض وثائق تكشف عن كواليس المفاوضات والمراسلات التي جرت في هذا الوقت الحرج (١٩١٧-١٩٢٢)، ومن ثم يجعلك تنظر للمفاوضات والتصريحات والمقابلات الصحفية التي تجري اليوم على خلفية الإبادة الجماعية في غزة بعيون مختلفة ووعي زائد.

لا أعرف من أين أبدأ، ولكن سأكتفي حالياً بالإشارة إلى أن كم التلاعب والخداع والتدليس الذي قام به البريطانيون قبل اليهود في هذا الوقت يثير الغثيان، تماماً كما يثير غثيانك وجه ماثيو ميلر المتحدث الرسمي الأمريكي وهو يكذب المرة تلو الأخرى أمام كل سؤال يوجهه له الصحفيون بشأن غزة.

كتاب عظيم، أنصح به بشدة، وأتمني أن أكتب قريباً مراجعة وافية عنه.

هو تجميع للمراسلات اللي تمت بين الحركة الصهيونية والحكومة البريطانية والمسئولين العرب قبيل وعد بلفور لغاية صدور صيغة الوصاية على فلسطين في الفترة بين ١٩١٧ و ١٩٢٢ بعد الحرب العالمية الأولى مباشرة واحتلال انجلترا وفرنسا لمعظم البلدان العربية.

واحد من أهم الكتب اللي قريتها. فهمت ازاي بدأ الموضوع بصفقة بين الحلفاء والحركة الصهيونية علشان ينتصروا ف حربهم ضد دول المحور (الدعم مقابل الأرض)، والمحاولات الكتير لتمييع معنى وعد بلفور (رئيس الوزراء البريطاني وقتها) واللعب على الطرفين (الصهاينة والعرب) لتمرير سياساتهم، الوعد اللي تسبب حتى يومنا ده بأكبر أزمة ف المنطقة وظلم لكتير من الفلسطينيين أصحاب الأرض الأصليين.

Fascinating insight into the early period of British rule in Palestine and how Zionists laid the foundation for modern day Israel. An especially crucial text for those seeking to understand the British Military Administration of Palestine from 1917-1920 and the social and political dynamic of the region. I found the primary sources to be easily navigable with wonderful paragraphs of context interspersed to help drive the narrative.

If you would like to better understand the start of the British Mandate of Palestine and the seeds that were sowed for all the killing l we are seeing in Gaza today, this is a short but really great book to read. You get the inside scoop, if the varying opinions in the British establishment as this book was created with primary source docs (minutes from cabinet meetings, letters, memos, telegrams etc.). You got a front seat view to the sausage making that happened from 1919-1922 which were pivotal years which set the stage for the conflict 100+ years later.

No reflection at all on the compiler just not really sure why I chose to read this! Anyway it was interesting in a few ways: firstly the duplicitous and manipulative nature of zionism from its inception, racial fatalism inherent to the white supremacist project, question of Jewish national home IN Palestine vs Palestine AS Jewish national home & overlapping histories of ethnic cleansing and gentrification in terms of race and class
