In which the decline of Chief Judge MacGruder reaches an apex, with a slightly creaky follow up to Mechanismo not entirely convincing as the main driver of the plot. It feels like Wagner wants to clear the decks and set up a new regime in charge of Mega City One and fancies another go at a road trip through a menacing landscape to achieve that: albeit this one is far more threatening and murderous than usual. The main problems are 1. The famously confusing decision to run the story in parallel in the prog and the Megazine which leads to 2. some truly terrible art. I mean bits of this are staggeringly bad, with only Ezquerra convincing with his deliciously bad taste designs for the alien world. The coda is far more convincing and evidence yet again of Wagner’s genius at setting up a long game story in the closing moments of another

Not as good as other same scale megaepics of Dredd. Esquerra provides again nice art but then he spoils it a bit with his new toy of computer coloring.
A bit patchy thing, this.
