A small town, best friend's sister, age-gap, grumpy, sunshine, contemporary standalone
Confirmed bachelor—that’s what I’ve become. Life is safe and predictable. After all, Riverbend doesn’t exactly have a roaring social life or an influx of women looking to be the wife of a farmer. Hold on. I’m not looking for a wife—or even a girlfriend. When my best friend tells me that his little sister, Devan, is moving back to Riverbend to teach science, I envision the little girl with pigtails, freckles, and an annoying urge to be wherever her older brother was. Of course, that was twelve years ago when she was ten years old. Newsflash. Devan is no longer a child. Imagine my shock when I learn that she is the woman who disappeared after one passionate kiss—one I couldn’t get out of my head. Once I realize Devan is my mystery woman, I can’t walk away. The problem is that she’s my best friend’s little sister, ten years younger than me, and definitely off-limits.
What will it mean for my friendship if I pursue my feelings? Can one kiss change everything? Have you been Aleatha’d?
ONE KISS is a stand-alone, age-gap, best friend’s sister, small-town forbidden contemporary romance set in Riverbend, Indiana, and one of Aleatha’s Lighter Ones. Sit back and enjoy the hijinks as Justin’s safe and predictable world is turned upside down..

Justin and Devan's romance is incandescent with emotions, sparks and mega feels. With easy to love characters, irresistible chemistry, a ton of heart and an ample helping of humor, this book is perfect for when you need to lighten your heart or brighten your day because it inspires pure joy and a serious case of swoon in the reader. I am electing to post a candid review.
Sometimes one kiss is all it takes to start to fall for someone. And that’s exactly what this book is all about. It’s a good old fashioned romance that begins with a life changing kiss between two people who never would have thought to be together. Not only is it a best friend’s sibling romance, but it didn’t have any of the initial drama of the characters constantly denying what they felt and saying they can’t go down that road. In One Kiss both Devan and Justin are open to see exactly what their kiss means and where it could lead. 5/5
If you're in the mood for a fun, sexy, low-angst love story with a guaranteed HEA, my lighter ones are for you. Some are slow burn while others begin like a rocket!
If you're in the mood for angst, drama, conflict, twists, turns, and intrigue, please read any of my other 50+ titles. I promise all of those elements.
My lighter ones are an escape from the angst... a palate cleanser for me as the author and for you as the reader.
If you go into ANY of my lighter Ones expecting drama, you will be disappointed. If you go into them anticipating a romance that will leave a smile on your face...you will not be disappointed.

Review:
When Devon left her small town she never thought she would find a job there and go back. There she meets again her older brother best friend. Their connection is instantaneous (insta-love(ish). The setting is nice, all characters are good people and there was little to no conflict.
Although Devan was 22, schooled, lived by herself through college, she sometimes sounded so juvenile, like an innocent teen. It sounded a little strange to me. Also, some of the MCs dialogues were a little cringy. I was also expecting Justin to be a grumpy, but he isn’t at all! So do go expecting it.
All that being said, if you like sweet, slower paced, no drama romance, you’ll enjoy this book.
*** I voluntarily read/listened and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***
One Kiss, is a sweet, fun and easy summer read that is perfect for the pool or relaxing with a glass of sweet tea in the shade. This is the story of Justin and Devan. They are an unlikely pair since he is 10 years older and her brothers best friend, but their chemistry clicks. A sweet HEA set in a small town with no angst or drama is the perfect setting for their story. 4⭐️’s. ~Kim💜
One Kiss: Riverbend Lighter One (Lighter Ones, #6) by Aleatha Romig 3 stars M/F Romance - age gap I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Justin is living life. He lives in a small town and knows that he will forever be a bachelor. Nothing his best friends can say will change that. But, after a steamy encounter with a stranger, Justin knows that if he can just find that woman again, he would love to find her and have more fun.
Devon is just starting out in her life. With a new job on the horizon, she just wants to make sure that moving back home is truly something that will move her forward and not backwards. When she realizes that the best kiss of her life was her brother's best friend, Devon isn't sure what to do.
This is a light story that involves family, friends, love and fun. You won't be disappointed, but this story was a little slow for me and while I enjoyed it, it just wasn't the Romig I was used to. Totally my own opinion. You'll still love it.
It’s been a minute since I’ve been “Aleatha’d” and I have definitely missed her writing!
In this Lighter Side, we meet Devan Dunn. Young and fresh out of college, unsure of her next move in her career, and whether moving back home to her small town of Riverbend is a good idea. Deciding to let loose a little after her interview with the local middle school, Devan sweeps through a town gathering…but what she encounters is nothing short of amazing. Now, to decide if coming home is the best idea…people change over time, they grow, and sometimes they’re unrecognizable…even to their older brother’s best friend. And one kiss can have the power to change everything.
I loved the simplicity and slow burn of this small-town romance. Every aspect of it was perfect…the timing, the growth, the spice. Justin Sheers and Devan Dunn lead the way for a sweet love story that shows innocence and chivalry at a level Romig does so well…truly a light and lovely read. I look forward to the next one!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. One Kiss by Aleatha Romig is the sixth book in her stand-alone Lighter Ones series. As the name of the series suggest, this was a light, sweet, and angst free, age gap small town romance.
This installment introduces Justin Sheers and Devan Dunn's love story. Having read the previous book featuring Justin's sister, I was eager for his story. The story takes place in Riverbend. Devan recently graduated from college, but was unsure of her next move. However, when she received a job offer to teach at the middle school in her hometown of Riverbend, she opted to take up the offer. After her interview she decides to attend the towns annual event incognito. While there she experienced the an amazing time. This was further enhanced with a kiss from her older brother's best friend.
Justin was so enamored by the mysterious beauty he encountered at the town's event he could not resist the urge to kiss her. Imagine his surprise when he discovered she was his best friend"s younger sister.
One Kiss delivered a charming, light and an easy read, which can be read in one sitting. This drama free, slow burn romance with likeable characters will have you smiling throughout the story's duration. The story also delivered its share of humour and quirky moments.
This is an easy, small town romance. No angst which is a refreshing change. No real drama, etc. It is called Lighter Ones for a reason.
Devan and Justin have known each other for years. Even if Justin doesn't recognize her now that she is all grown up. One kiss turns their lives upside down even if they don't realize how much yet.
I enjoyed the down home feel and lightness of this one - it's a good summer read.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
One Kiss is another delightful addition to her collection of lighter romances, although it took me a little longer to fully immerse myself in this one. The story started off a bit slow for my taste, but once Justin and Devan reunited, things picked up speed, and I found myself drawn into their journey.
Unlike some of Romig's previous works, One Kiss may not have been as steamy, but it compensated with an endearing and heartwarming love story. I appreciated that once Justin and Devan decided to give their relationship a chance, there were no unnecessary and over-the-top dramas to break them apart. They handled their challenges like mature adults, having open and honest conversations to work through their issues.
The banter between Justin and Devan was a highlight of the book, adding a fun and playful element to their interactions. Additionally, the side characters were well-written and brought an extra layer of depth to the story.
I'm eagerly anticipating what's in store for Ricky, Devan's brother, and Marilyn, her best friend, in the future. I'm sure their story will be just as engaging and heartwarming as Justin and Devan's.
I've read so many books by Aleatha Romig, but this was my first time with one of her "lighter ones" stories. One Kiss was honestly a cute small town romance. Our heroine falls for her brother's best friend, and of course there is slight drama to be had.
Loved the romance. Enjoyed the story. Cannot wait to check out more in the "lighter ones" series. All in all this was just a cute story.
✨Review ✨ *** One Kiss was the perfect romance read. It was light, sweet, and fast paced. This story focused on love and building a relationship. There was no drama or super complicated plot. I loved that it focused on Justin and Devan falling in love. I loved both characters and seeing their love grow. This was a really sweet and romantic story. I've read other books by Aleatha Romig and this wine was definitely different but just as good. *** Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Romance: 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 Spice: .5🔥 *** Thank you to Aleatha Romig and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the ARC to review. ***
I have loved all of Aleatha Romig’s lighter ones. This one took a little longer to get into. I felt it was slow at the beginning but once Justin and Devan saw each other again things began moving. One Kiss wasn’t as steamy as the previous lighter ones, in my opinion. I did however like that once Justin and Devan decided to make a go of it as a couple, there wasn’t some crazy drama that broke them up. They talked about things like grownups and worked through issues. The banter between the two was great as were the side characters. I can’t wait to see what happens between Ricky, Devan’s brother, and Marilyn, her best friend.
Once again, Aleatha Romig brings us one of her "Lighter Ones" and it's sheer perfection! This stand-alone, age-gap, best-friend's sister, small town forbidden contemporary romance is everything you want it to be. It's a quick read full of laughter, joy, first-love angst, steamy encounters, and all the growing pains that come when you find "the One" you can't live without.
Immensely enjoyable from start to finish, One Kiss will have you smiling, swooning, and falling in love right along with the lead characters! Like all of Aleatha's "Lighter Ones," One Kiss is the perfect Summer beach read or weekend read curled up in front of the fireplace. I devoured this book, flipping the pages with complete glee. Grab it and experience the thrill of that special one kiss that changes everything!
ONE KISS by Aleatha Romig is book 6 in the Lighter Ones Series. This is the story of Justin Sheers and Devan Dunn. Devan is young women who had left her small town of Riverbend to go to college and start her life. But now she is deciding if coming home and taking a new job there is the next move for her. While cutting loose she happens to kiss someone and the sparks fly. Devan later learns that kiss was done by her brother's best friend Justin. Justin always felt that he would stay a bachelor until his dying day pretty much but that kiss he shared has made him start to think of another alternative. Enjoyed their story.
This is the first book I read in the series and am definitely in love with this small town. It was very different from Aleatha's other books I am used to but I enjoyed it. Justin and Devan made me loose myself in there story. It was easy to love them and root for them to get together. It's a sweet read filled with emotions that left a smile etched on my face. The secondary characters are equally lovable and I can't wait to read all the other books in the series. Though, it's a light read there is angst, laughter, pain, love and swoony moments. Thanks to Aleatha and Wildfire Marketing for the advanced copy of this amazing read.
One Kiss: Riverbend Lighter One (Lighter Ones, #6) by Aleatha Romig This is the first book I have read by Aleatha, but it won't be the last. Devan and Justin (she is his best friend's littler sister) are just so perfect together. I was hooked on them right away and couldn't wait to learn their story. There is angst, mystery, age gap, fantastic friends and family, wonderful hometown, laughter, a few tears, family drama, some sweet and hot stuff all to get us to a very HEA. I am looking forward to Ricky and Marilyn's story.
One kiss changes everything. A cute lighter side story from Aleatha Romig. I really enjoyed Devan and Justin's story. This is a best friend's sister, age gap story that is full of heart. Justin is older and a bit grumpy focused on making his family's farm successful. He never expected Devan and the feelings she makes him feel. I love how supportive and protective of Devan he is. This is an unexpected quick love story for Devan and her sweetness is addictive. So good.
Even though this is book 6 in the Lighter Ones series, it can be read as a standalone.
This was a light, steamy read. Devan and Justin have great chemistry right from the start. Their relationship moves quickly, but they’ve known each other for years. I liked how they handled their relationship. There was no over the top drama. This book left me feeling very satisfied.
Small towns are a blessing and a curse. How do you meet someone new in a small town? How do you date someone that everyone knows without everyone knowing? How will your friends and family react?
Even with Aleatha Romig’s lighter stories, there is plenty of drama and heat and some angst. Devan and Justin’s story has it all. You won’t regret picking up this read!
A lovely, heart warming story of life and love in small town, Riverbend, with Devan and Justin meeting again after years apart while Devan has been studying. This has been a sweet and fun read, filled with people of good heart and intentions. Both Devan and Justin are delightful. Kind, thoughtful, and loving, they are a great match. This has been a fabulous read which leaves you in a better place than when you started. 💖💖💖💖
All love stories don’t require angst, trauma or the seesaw of will they or won’t they. Sometimes love is as simple as just falling.
She’s younger. He's older. She’s his best friend's little sister. She’s not so little anymore. She’s a sweet teacher. He’s a grumpy farmer. But…Justin and Devan are just that. Two people that fall in love.
And being Aleatha’d means we pack our bags, we move to Riverbend and we take that plunge right with them! Into a love so simple, so pure, so imaginable and so real.
DNF. Couldn't do this one. The girls were immature IMO and then when they kissed within 1 minute of meeting each other because he just couldn't resist and he wanted to since he walked up. And he was 32 years old.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ It is sometimes just what you need to read, a book where you are guaranteed a low level of drama – sometimes I find myself so keyed up waiting on a disaster that I can miss the good bits along the way! That said, there are enough amusingly tense bits to keep that enjoyable level of anticipation alive too!
Devan promised herself that she would not be stuck in her hometown after college, but a job opportunity presents itself which she feels she should take, even if only for now. A chance encounter with an old-time crush may just add to the plus side of her decision! I really enjoyed how the return to her old family home is described, and the return to immaturity by her and her older brother when dealing with who has the best room, etc. It is definitely true that it is easy to slip back into those family roles.
Justin is Devan's brother's best friend and their farms neighbour each other – he is more than a little surprised to discover that the woman he kissed at the recent party was in fact Devan! He soon realises, though, that his interest in her was more than fleeting, and changes his opinions on dating very quickly in the face of their chemistry and empathy.
I really enjoyed the lightness of the romance and the importance of the other story – the desire to keep Riverbend a community of integrity and family, rather than letting in cheap developments to change the fabric of the environment.
A very enjoyable, cheeky, and refreshingly honest romance.

ONE KISS is the sixth instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult RIVER: LIGHTER ONE romance series set in Riverbend, Indiana. This is thirty -two year old farmer Justin Sheers , twenty-two year old teacher Devan Dunn’s story line. ONE KISS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Justin and Devan) ONE KISS follows the best friends, younger sister relationship between thirty -two year old farmer Justin Sheers , twenty-two year old teacher Devan Dunn. Devan Dunn never thought she would return to Riverbend, Indiana but an offer to teach at the local school finds Devan interviewing for a teaching position. A night out with friends finds Devan in the arms of her brother’s best friend Justin but Justin has no idea as to the identity of the woman he cannot forget. Weeks will pass before Justin comes face to face with our heroine, and in the ensuing weeks, Justin will fall in love with his best friend’s younger sister. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Justin and Devan, as our couple navigate a rapidly building love, and a future together.
The world building focuses on plans for the future. Devan’s parents want to retire, and a developer has offered a large sum of money for the land but Justin is hoping to expand his family’s farm, and the developer is about to threaten his business agenda.
The relationship between Justin and Devan is a best friend’s, younger sister, insta-love romance in which Justin knows Devan is the one. Trying to circumnavigate his friendship with Devan’s brother Ricky, a friendship that may be threatened by his attraction to and growing love for our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Devan’s brother Ricky Dunn, their parents Jack and Janet; Devan’s friends Jill and Marilyn; Justin’s sister Kandace and her husband Dax (Quintessentially the One) , and their parents Bridget and Randy, as well as several townies and friends.
ONE KISS is a story of family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is heart warming and entertaining-the conflict is limited. The characters are real and spirited; the romance is tender and stirring.
ONE KISS is another wonderful addition to Aleatha Romig's Lighter Ones series of standalones. If you're a lover of small town, age gap, best friend's younger sister, sweet contemporary romances, then this is the ideal book.
One kiss ... that's all it took. A moonlit night, two supposed strangers, and one kiss that would change everything.
Devan Dunn, 22, is about to graduate from college, she slyly returns home to attend an interview for a teaching position at the local school. While in town she attends a popular town gathering with her friends secretively, hoping not to be seen. Justin Sheers, 32, a local generational farmer and Ricky Dunn's best friend is also there and notices Devan, but he doesn't recognize her. They share a kiss that becomes unforgettable for both. Several weeks later, Justin is helping Ricky move Devan back home, it's then he realizes that the woman he kissed was Devon.
How will Devan and Justin handle their newfound situation? Will they be able to keep what happened between them a secret? What will happen when their friends and family find out?
I loved Devan and Justion's story. It was sweet, lighthearted, and romantic. Yes, their relationship may have moved quickly, but it didn't appear to be rushed. I love that Justin couldn't stay away from Devan, he was totally besotted with her, the little sister of his best friend. Devan had had a crush on Justin for years, but due to the age difference she believed nothing would come of it. I loved the way in which Justin courted her, he wanted to show her how he felt about her, and to do this he romanced her. He knew she was naive in many ways and allowed their relationship to evolve at her speed. If anything, she was the one who pushed the boundaries he was trying to set.
ONE KISS is another terrific story from Aleatha. It gives her readers plenty of times to laugh, swoon, fall for two perfectly matched characters.
Next up is ONE STRING featuring Ricky Dunn and Marilyn, Devan's best friend.
Two people who felt that spark, that sizzle, that “I want more” and one had no idea who the other person was.
Justin Sheers who had no idea who he kissed that One Night but boy did he want to find out who she was. She said she was just visiting Riverbend, so all he had to do was look for her right? Hmmm for weeks he kept his eyes open hoping to see her and then he wondered if she was just a dream, that he had conjured up.
Devan Dunn could not believe that the man she kissed was Justin Sheers, tall, handsome and easy to talk to and that kiss!!! She thought about him and then thought this could never be, after all he was her brother Ricky’s best friend, oh and he was ten years older than her.
Kismet happens when one least expects it, Justin will always live in Riverbend and Devan really had no plans to go back there, but when a teaching job is offered and the memories of that One Night, the decision is made and she is going to move home.
Reuniting with the man you kissed one night (oh and didn’t tell him who you were) can be a little nerve wracking, and Devan was ok until Justin ended up with her father and her brother to move her home. Was he angry, would they be able to talk about what happened, would he walk away?
Author Aleatha Romig has given readers the perfect summer love story.
The angst is low…very low but the witt and sweet gestures and overtures made by Devan and Justin will make you sigh and put a smile on your face.
We get to revisit a few of the characters we already know from Quintessentially the One and I think there may just be another love story that takes place in Riverbend some time in the future.
I wanted sweet, I wanted laughter, I wanted a love that was like a shooting star and I got it all in One Kiss!
