Do You Know Who I Am?: And Other Brave Questions Women Ask

Rate this book
For readers who loved Do You Think I’m Beautiful? Angela Thomas’s new book explores a woman’s need to be known and loved—just as she is.

In her book Do You Know Who I Am? Angela Thomas asks God if He knows her—and ultimately does He love her—as she is, right now, today. In each chapter, she names a different identity issue, such “I am invisible,” “I am worn out,” “I am undisciplined,” “I am ordinary,” and “I am afraid to dream.” With each honest admission, Angela teaches that God lovingly replies, “Yes, I know your heart. I see your struggle. Now…do you know who I AM?”

Ultimately Angela reveals that the secret to being known and loved lies in an intimate understanding of who God is. Each identity struggle is answered with a short biblical study on the character of God that assures readers that their personal, spiritual, and eternal fulfillment is not dependent on getting themselves together. Rather, God has a purpose for them just as they are—broken, afraid, disappointed, disillusioned.

Through vivid storytelling, biblical teaching, and practical application, readers will find the heartfelt answers they seek.

Title: DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?
Author: Angela Thomas
Publisher: Howard Books

ISBN: 978-1-4391-6070-1
Genre: Inspirational/Christian living

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? is a book where Ms. Thomas started out asking God if He knows her and loves her—but it turned in a whole lot more. In each chapter she identifies a problem that women everywhere can recognize, such as “I am invisible”, “I am worn out”, “I am undisciplined”, “I am ordinary”, etc. Ms. Thomas asks God each question, and through His word, and thoughts, Ms. Thomas answers the questions, as if God says, “Yes, I know your heart and how you struggle. Do you know who I am?” and she shows us through this book how God is the answer.

Ms. Thomas says in the introduction of this book that this book is one that God laid on her heart and she struggled against it for a long while before she finally gave in. Asking God “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” sounds so boastful, not something you’d ask God. But when she finally gave in to the Lord’s prompting, He took this book to a level that she didn’t anticipate.

I’m glad Ms. Thomas sat down to write this book because it is a book that women everywhere can use. We all struggle with some of the issues included in this book. “I am worn out” for instance—and when I go to this chapter, I am reminded that “He doesn’t grow weary” along with many other biblical truths.

If you have questions and want answers, then this book is one to consider. It is not set up as a devotional, but it could be used as one with your Bible by your side as well as a notebook and pen to write your thoughts and observations. The chapters aren’t overly long, more like four or five pages (more or less) so it won’t take long out of your day. $14.99. 240 pages.

Do You Know Who I Am by Angela Thomas answers the top twelve questions a woman's heart asks the Lord. Thomas, a popular speaker at women's conferences and churches, as well as an author of ten books, is remarkably honest and open about her struggles with faith and the suffering in her life. She uses each to help women learn more about God and their role as a Christian woman. She asks questions like: Do you know I am invisible; do you know I am trembling inside; do you know I am lonely; do you know I am broken, and then answers them with truths about God: He is my God who sees; he is my comforter; he is here; he is my redeemer. By using the question and answer format, she really gets to the core of many of our fears and worries, and then soothes them by demonstrating how God's nature in each circumstance offers healing and strength. Readers don't need to read the book straight through, but can jump to a specific question that lies heavily on their heart, but at the same time, there is a thread running through each chapter of Thomas' journey through faith and redemption. I enjoyed reading Thomas' writing because she never makes the reader feel guilty for their weaknesses; she is also encouraging and loving. It's a devotional that can be read again and again for deeper understanding.

This is a compilation of questions contemporary women might ask, especially in the busy years of raising families. Deals with issues of loneliness, burnout, inclusion, ill health, and more. Strong evangelical tone. Includes many Biblical stories. Discussion questions included. Not a book to strongly support or change your current thinking, but certainly fervent.
