Even in a drunken stupor it is hard for Captain Cape Thomas to ignore his recurring vision of a beautiful woman and the swaddled baby she holds. On a rare, sober day he begins a casual search through college yearbooks and yellowed courthouse records in hopes of finding the one who got away. Instead, an unrecorded codicil suggests their one union was fruitful and reveals a possible heir to an old-moneyed family used to scams and scammers making claims against the estate. After run-ins with a cabal of bankers, lawyers, in-laws, outlaws, and even the F.A.A. Cape begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together...
Ted Miller Brogden is an instrument rated pilot, certified diver, internationally published author and practicing raconteur. He spends most of his time in Eastern North Carolina and points South, but his favorite city is New York. When asked his simplified view of life, Brogden says, "I've always tried to face life like an oyster does--when given grit: give back a pearl. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4202104/
The strong characterization and interesting twists in Brogden’s debut novel leads the reader on a journey of discovery alongside the hero of this book. This is a story of “the one that got away” that hooks you from the beginning in a quite unusual way. Cape’s quest is spurred by a visit. Not your run of the mill visit. Rather Cape is visited by a vision of a long lost, but never forgotten love. What this vision actually is, he’s not sure, but Cape is determined to find out. In the process he learns more about himself and we get to ride along.
Just when you think you have this book figured out, Brogden throws you another curve that keeps you guessing. Cape Thomas heads a cast of deeply constructed characters that the reader can’t help but care about. For anybody living in or familiar with North Carolina, this book will give you much to smile about. The settings are colorfully drawn and provide an unlikely backdrop for a suspense novel, but Brogden makes it work in spades.
“Jigsaw” is a book that you will be glad you have read. Ted Miller Brogden proves to be a natural storyteller and “Jigsaw” is a delight to read. I look forward to many more from him in the future.
I wasn't sure I would like this book when I started it. Boy, was I surprised. Our hero of the book, and he really was a hero, is Captain Cape Thomas. He has had some trouble, of course involving a woman, and is no longer captain of his 747. He has lost his license for that, the reason for which we don't find out completely until we are near the end of the book. He is however still licensed for commercial freight and passengers, passengers as long as there is a co-pilot. All this is just part of the story though. The main story if about his "vision" he has one night. A woman holding a baby and wearing a Coptic cross appears on his deck. This brings memories of a girl he once met and had one night with. They didn't give their full names, and she didn't even give her real name. Not knowing if he is going crazy or if the vision means something, he decides to set out to find the woman. I really didn't want to put the book down until the story was done. When I was finished, I had a book hangover. It has stayed with me for a few days now. (book that made me cry for 2015 reading challenge)
The book is exciting and has unexpected twist. I thought Mr. Brogden did an excellent job in both character and plot development. It's a page turner and never predictable. I found myself dreaming about what might happen next. It would be a great movie. I totally see it on the silver screen!
This is the cream of the crop, best of the best, of all the thrilling fiction novels I’ve read. Just a gripping book you don't want to put down. Captain Cape Thomas is an awesome character. From the very start of the book you just want to know more about the mysterious woman.
An entertaining delight! I didnt want to put the book down. Jigsaw kept my attention as it traveled through many familiar places in the southeast. I would reccomend this book for a great weekend adventure.
Riveting! A page-turner. Could not wait to get to the end to see what happens, but then did not want it to be over. As an avid reader, I could not put it down. Love this book and can't wait for Mr. Brogden to write his next one. A truly romantic with a sense of place, page-turner.
This book keeps you on your toes till your finished. I hate reading but this book was fantastic.Well done by Ted. Brodgen excellent book. I would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait till the Movie comes out (:
A 40 something guy coming of age-huh. A pilot, flyboy who develops! Good storytelling, imaginative with a bit of unreality thrown it to keep things going. I enjoyed this tale.
Ted Miller Brogden’s Jigsaw is packed with so much exciting mystery, romance and drama! The main character, Cape Thomas is very captivating and I was drawn to his dauntlessness and charm. The bits of humor and wit throughout the book were a pleasure. Jigsaw’s last chapter is loaded with excitement that leads to an explosive peak for the reader. I am looking forward to reading Jigsaw Part II and getting close to Cape Thomas and his character again!
I had a little trouble getting into this book in the beginning. I kept reading the back cover and it kept drawing me back into the book. I pushed forward and then started really enjoying the book. In the end I was happy that I read it and thought it turned out to be a pretty good book.
Basic Plot: A recently fired Airline Captain has a vision of someone from his past. The vision haunts him, so he goes on a private investigation to try and solve a mystery he has put himself in. While doing this, he throws himself into another plot involving a dame and her marriage to no good politician. Pros= Pretty good storyline and characters. I will say that for the first half of the book, Jigsaw was able to create an interesting mystery that held my attention. Cape Thomas is an enjoyable protagonist to follow through the journey. Cons=There are a few things that kept me from enjoying Jigsaw and giving it a recommendation. The first is believability. I mentioned the book has a good storyline, and it does, I just find it hard to imagine this main character devoting so much time and effort from a single vision, which may or may not have been a dream. I also thought the romantic relationship that was built between Cape and a character named Ally came out of nowhere. There was chemistry between the two characters and the next minute we find out that they have strong feelings for one another. These small things aside, the real reason I am giving Jigsaw a thumbs down is that it’s sloppy. This book needed a better editor. The final thirty pages are not written well at all. The author does not know how to frame action scenes. I had to reread several paragraphs just to try and get a grasp of what was going on. The final is right out of a Scooby-Doo cartoon (laughably bad dialog and revelations). Jigsaw’s climax is handled very badly. I didn’t hate this book, it started off well and has good plot, but I think it could have used a little cleaning up and revising, especially in the end.
This book was suspenseful, a little implausible, but still OK. They reviewed this book in our local paper ---- gave it a higher rating. I'm not sorry I read it, but it was just so-so.
