Why I Read this Book: I love reading romance and I am finding that I enjoy reading romantic suspense more than I had originally expected. When I first got into reading altogether, I was addicted to Dean Koontz’s novels. I loved the mystery, the suspense and the unusual twists and turns in his books. I like being kept on my toes and I enjoy a book that makes me think and second guess myself and my intuitions. Add a romantic subplot to the mix and I’m a happy gal.

What I Liked: You know those books that have you thinking that you know what’s going on or that you’ve figured out the “secret” and you’re all “Oh.” and then you find out that there’s more to that secret than you originally thought and then you’re all “OH!!”? That’s what Lancelot’s Lady did to me. Just when you think you’ve got something figured out, you find out the author has a few more tricks up her sleeve.

There was enough romance and enough suspense in Lancelot’s Lady. The ratio between the two elements was satisfying, with neither element overwhelming the other. The characters and plotline were well structured. In the end, everything tied together quite nicely. For me, the characters with haunting pasts are the ones that are interesting to me. Both Rhianna and Jonathan come from broken pasts, each trying to overcome their own trust issues and move on.

What I Didn’t Like: I wasn’t entirely convinced of the way JT handled the Winston situation. JT seemed to be an intelligent man, being a successful business man and all, but when it came to Winston and his demands, JT caved each time.

Overall Impression: Lancelot’s Lady is a great romantic suspense read about finding love in the least likely of situations, restitution and the secrets we hold close to our heart. If you like a story with secrets and ulterior motives mixed in with suspense and mystery, then this book is for you.

This was really a great romance. I've been reading a lot of paranormal books and this was kind of like a breath of fresh air...just a nice, fun to read romance. It was really, really good and it kept me interested until the very end.

My review:

Lancelot’s Lady’s blurb caught my eye on Imajin Books homepage and I really wanted to read it. Finally I got it to my Kindle for PC and was ready to read! I needed a good romance and I did not have to be disappointed. Lancelot’s Lady by Cherish D’Angelo was easy to read, a perfect book to August summer nights to devour. It was easy to read, it had solid plot and loveable characters.

Regarding the plot:

Meet Rhianna McLeod – a beautiful care nurse arriving to work for dying billionaire JT Lance. Rhianna is accepted in to the family like a long lost daughter. She is adored by JT and she sees JT as a father she never had. JT is giving Rhianna a wonderful birthday present –a trip to Bahaman Islands, to Angelina’s Island.

When Rhianna arrives to Angelina’s Island, there is no resort she expected, but the island is almost empty except for a beautiful house and gorgeous man called Jonathan with his deaf daughter and a family Atkinson who take care of the household. Jonathan is very disturbed by Rhianna’s visit but as the story develops Rhianna and Jonathan find a way to each other’s hearts. What they don’t know is that there are many obstacles waiting for them.

The story was well written, descriptions of the Angelina’s Island were colorful and captivating. The plot had several interesting turns in it and a lot of romance. They were funny situations in the book, so I also got several full hearted laughs while reading it.

Regarding the characters:

Characters were lovable and well-written. Main characters had some issues from their pasts they had to deal with and their pasts had made them into the persons they were, together with all strengths and weaknesses. The burden of secrets can be very heavy to carry and it also influenced the characters. Their stories were well described by the author.

Rhianna had a broken soul with reason – her road from her childhood to becoming a grownup had been very difficult and her past included secrets which she had to deal with. It was interesting to see her grow – as an independent and strong woman capable over fighting her most inner nightmares. She was feisty and I enjoyed that!

Jonathan did not trust Rhianna in the beginning, but the relationship between Rhianna and his daughter Misty opened Jonathan up. Jonathan realized that Rhianna was a woman he had been waiting for.

JT Lance was my definite favorite, at least looking from the perspective of his past which revealed at the very end of the story. He was so sweet with Rhianna and gave her a home – all for a reason.

Generally:

Lancelot’s Lady had plenty of romance in it, captivating characters and a good plot! I enjoyed Cherish D’Angelo’s skills to wave together a good story and her writing style. It was easy to read and I did not want to put the book down before the end. Lancelot’s Lady kept the reader’s interest and offered very good entertainment.

5 stars!

I enjoyed my first experience with a Cherish D’Angelo novel. I had a bit of trouble at the beginning where both Rhianna and Jonathan were rather antagonistic toward each other, and I felt that Rhianna’s initial assumptions about Jonathan somewhat… dated perhaps? Rather reminiscent of romance stories from twenty years or more ago.

But for all that there’s something about this book—about the characters of Rhianna and Jonathan—that just clicked.

I think that part of it is that they’re not the perfect hero and heroine; they’re sometimes challenging to fall in love with, but they are people who take on more definition as the story goes on. Their interactions with those around them can be somewhat simplistic, and that’s perhaps where I get the impression of datedness. There’s nothing about Lancelot’s Lady that’s particularly earth-shattering, but that would, for this story, be a mistake.

I do like the progression of the knowledge that’s gradually exposed and even better I really enjoy the growth that both Jonathan and Rhianna undergo.

Then there is JT and his butler Higginson; they are rather sweet even though I think that’s the last adjective that anyone would use to describe JT. But knowing that your life is coming to an end that you know is close can change a person. What I really loved the most between the two men is that they’ve got a long-lived friendship that’s seen them through many diverse situations and even still they value each other. I was rather surprised to find that these two somewhat background characters had the biggest effect on me. And it was a nice surprise.

The various mysteries—some more mysterious than others to be sure—were well suited to Lancelot’s Lady; nothing extreme but there is one that truly came out of nowhere… wow!

This isn’t a story where I was completely emotionally involved with the characters, but at the same time I found it rather refreshing. There’s only so much dark emotion and angst that I can take and I always turn to something easier with which to just sit back and enjoy.

I would definitely recommend Cherish D’Angelo’s Lancelot’s Lady, especially to anyone who enjoys a fairly uncomplicated story with a rather genteel approach to romance. It’s a touch of the past in a modern tale and I rather liked it.

Truthfully Romantic Suspense is one of my least favorite genre. But this year I have tested it out a little. I have checked out J.D. Robb's In Death world and enjoyed it very much. With Lancelot's Lady, I decided to give it a try because the hero seemed dark, very interesting and I wanted to learn more about him.

Jonathan and Rhianna's story turned out to be a surprising, wonderful story. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Lancelot's Lady is an entertaining read. Very sweet and suspenseful. Adventure, filled with twists and turns of mystery & romance. Ms. D'Angelo's writing is engaging and magical. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

A good story. It started off with a nice hook to get your attention. The attraction between the hero and heroine was evident, but the obstacles between them were things that would be hard to get around. There's a villian in the background and a long hidden secret that's just waiting to come out.

I especially like the character of a little deaf girl and learning sign language. Otherwise it was a decent romance.

There are so many people in this world carrying far more baggage than their emotional stability can handle. This fragile yet entertaining story of two such strangers and their journey is a realization that there is life after the death of the soul.

We meet Rhianna, a palliative nurse, orphaned at birth and suffering a series of abuses at the hands of her foster family. She is beautiful, caring, has much love to give, yet burdened with her past. She has been hired to care for an elderly but rich patient with approximately six months to live. Their relationship grows much like that of father and daughter, and as a gift to Rhianna on her birthday, he sends her on a vacation near the Bahamas to Angelina's Island. A vacation that turns out to be more adventurous than relaxing.

Here we meet "Tyler", the reclusive owner of the island and so-called resort, also heavily burdened with secrets from the past, abandonment and betrayal. Their first meeting is definitely not pleasant. His only contact with the outside world is the arrival of his supplies by the captain of a solitary boat a few times a year, and that is how he wants it. Unfortunately, to make room for Rhianna on the supply boat, some boxes had to be left behind. One of these boxes contains the only method to contact anyone in case of emergency, parts to repair the all-important long-range radio telecommunicator, and the boat will not be returning for several weeks.

The story is anything but maudlin, though. It is exciting, fun, irresistible in its telling with both characters feisty and entertaining. The book is both heartwarming and electric. I absolutely loved this book! Cherish D'Angelo aka Cheryl Kaye Tardif has a knack of inviting the reader into the lives she writes about with such depth, and the locations with such clarity. I am totally immersed in the story.

Jonathan Tyler's wife abandoned him and their very young daughter, Misty, as soon as she learned the child was deaf. Once Rhianna learns of this she offers to teach Misty ASL, which she had learned when tending to one of her patients of the past. Misty is the magnet who draws these two lost souls together as they share the bond of love for this young child. The housekeeper and her husband have already noticed the sexual tension between the two, but what our two main characters assume may be lust, the others see as love. The relationship requires trust, something neither feels confident within themselves to give.

Over their six weeks of isolation and no contact with the outside world many discoveries are made between the two, their perceptions subtly change, and Rhianna reaches a point where she no longer wishes to leave the island. At the same time, she still feels the need to return to her patient JT. Yet, new information comes to light about JT Lance, which threatens the whole relationship, also putting Rhianna in extreme danger. Will there ever be true happiness for either Rhianna or Jonathan? Can the past be mended? Whatever the outcome, the reader can be assured that the story will be captivating.

Lancelot's Lady is about half-romance, half-mystery in a fairly good way.
Rhianna, a palliative care nurse, is sent on vacation to a Caribbean island by her employer, and then things get complicated - the island isn't actually a resort, the owner of the island is a mysterious guy who attracts her like crazy, but she's scared to get close (traumas in her past get in the way), and he's scared to get close as well... So we get the usual merry dance around the topic. All in all, quite good and well described. The mystery lies in the connections between her employer, the owner of the island and a detective who gets involved...

The fact that Rhianna's been through childhood/teen abuse and that she's not recovered from it is generally well-handled and not gratuitous in description. The behaviour of Jonathan (the owner of the island and love interest) towards that aspect of Rhianna's issues is generally normal (once he knows what her problem is), but prior to that issue getting involved, he borders on unpleasant because of his aversion to her presence in his retreat.
The really uncomfortable character is the detective, Winston, whose attitude regarding consent and legalities in general is definitely not what it should be. Whilst he never does succeed in harming Rhianna, his musings on what he would like to do do not make for a pleasant read.

The overall book is fairly good, typical in certain ways for romance/mystery (sex, of course, included - with consideration of Rhianna's difficulties with positive feelings about sex)...

The only downside? 40% of the ebook is made up of previews for other books - some of which look good, some less... But unfortunately, it makes the book feel much shorter than it is and that can be a negative thing (I like to know if I'm about to run out of book!)...

Other than that, it's not a bad book, so, if you're into authors like Heather Graham(who is frankly much better than Cherish, but it's a similar type of realm of romance/mystery), you might like this...

As part of the CHERISH THE ROMANCE virtual book tour, Cherish D’Angelo (the pen name of Cheryl Kaye Tardif) granted me a copy of Lancelot’s Lady to read and write a review. I’m glad she did, because I loved LANCELOT’S LADY.

Rhianna McLeod is a faithful nurse to her father-like patient J.T. Lance. As a gift for her birthday, J.T. sends Rhianna to the Bahamas for a much needed vacation. Reluctant to leave the dying billionaire, Rhianna follows his wishes and instead of staying at a lush resort he promised, she finds herself on a remote island at a house which hasn’t had company in years.

It is there Rhianna meets Jonathan, the reclusive owner of the island and literally the man of her dreams. Complete with a bad attitude, Jonathan’s life remains shrouded in mystery until their first kiss begins several revelations, but also rehashes Rhianna’s tarnished childhood. On top of that, she still does not understand why J.T. sent her to the island without the owner’s prior knowledge.

In this romantic suspense, the romance is not present in the beginning, but Cherish D’Angelo leads with suspense – Tardif’s specialty – to carry the reader through. The first chapters of Lancelot’s Lady are important background scenes full of suspense to develop the story. Clues are inserted throughout the novel, revealing several previously unknown connections between the characters.

Lancelot’s Lady follows the story structure of a good romance, making the story seem predictable, but the ending came as a complete surprise to me and left me crying but satisfied.

On top of the romantic and suspenseful plot, this story also contains a dreamy private island setting and a well-rounded secondary cast of characters, including one bent on destroying J.T. and abducting Rhianna to use as he pleases, making Lancelot’s Lady a great romantic suspense.

What a delightful book! It is full of suspense, mystery, romance and ton of fun.

JT is suffering from brain tumor and he knows that he has not much to live. So he is trying to amend his mistakes... When he hired a young nurse and then sent her on a vacation for few weeks, he wasn't sure if he did the right thing but as his butler and long time companion said,

"My friend, I have known you for many years, and in all this time I've come to recognise that you always do the right thing. In the end."

As it turned out that it definitely was the right thing to do. Rhianna didn't know what to make of her employer. She had come to care for him as her father. He was old and dying but still insisted that she took a vacation. Truthfully she couldn't say she minded much considering how it was the first vacation she had ever taken. But when she arrived at an isolated island, owned by annoying Mr. Tyler she wasn't too happy. She assumed that there must be some kind of mix-up but was there? Or is that exactly what JT had planned all along? Whatever the case she couldn't deny her attraction for Jonathan Tyler. Hurt in the past she wasn't sure of herself....

"....she wanted him, and the only thing standing in the way was her past."

Jonathan Tyler had lived in isolation for years now. He loved his island and his privacy. So obviously wasn't happy when an uninvited guest end up at his door step, so to speak. With no way off the island Rhianna was stuck with him for a few weeks at the very least. He didn't know what was it about her that antagonised her so much. He couldn't help but tease her all the time. He was confused of his own feelings after all he did consider himself in love with his ex-wife and that didn't end well....

Sometimes the best measure of a book is whether or not I want to bother keeping the lamp on after an exhausting day to read a few pages of a book. Lancelot’s Lady not only have me keeping the lamp on; I was staying up until the early hours to find out what happened next!

With the affectionate use of the nickname ‘Higgie’ for his butler, I fell in love with the character JT as well as the story. Though his mind was a bit foggy, I could always follow JT’s line of thinking – and good-natured scheming! While I thought I wouldn’t like Rhianna at first, she easily found her way into my heart as well. Through D’Angelo’s writing, I sensed a strength in her that I highly enjoyed reading about her finding on her own.

D’Angelo (aka Tardif) is talented at creating good characters who are easy to love and evil characters who are oh, so easy to hate. Where JT had my heart and Rhianna my sympathy from the very beginning, the antagonist Winston had all the loathing and disgust I had to give. He embodied not a particularly clever ‘bad guy’, just a disgusting one. After ‘meeting’ Winston, you want to take a shower.

However, D’Angelo’s greatest strength still came in the form of writing suspense. The mystery of JT and Rhianna’s connection kept me guessing right up until the big reveal – and I usually pride myself on figuring out mysteries before they are revealed.

All in all, I highly enjoyed Lancelot’s Lady and wish it didn’t have to end. My one nitpick is that Jonathan’s love seemed to turn on like a light switch; it was a little too sudden for me. But then again, I like angst for my romance characters before they finally get their acts together.

The Good:

I loved this story. The characters were compelling, the romance kept me interested and rooting for the couple, the mystery and the little of action there was, was intriguing and kept me glued to the page.

Lancelot’s Lady is first and foremost a romance, but the mystery undertones definitely keep you interested and wanting to read more. Even though I was able to guess some of the plot, I was still surprised by some details and I just love when that happens.

I had a lot of fun with this book and I have to say, I simply adore when there is a kid in the story, specially such a lovable one… Adorable!

The Bad:

I found that the way this were manipulated was a little convoluted, but it did work out in the end. I don’t really have much more negative things to say about this novel =)

The Romance:

Two very likable and interesting characters, Rihanna and Jonathan, were a pleasure to read about. Rihanna had such a difficult and traumatizing past that I couldn’t help but feel for her.

Both characters are extremely damaged and their romance seems even impossible at times, but they do come together and it is glorious. The journey was a lot of fun.

I totally recommend this book to any Romance lover out there!

When Rhianna McLeod takes a job as a palliative nurse for dying billionaire J. T. Lance, she has no idea how her life will change. Becoming attached to the old man is only part of it. When he insists that she take a holiday to the Bahamas, after just a short time with him, she is quite mystified.

When she arrives and finds herself as a guest on an island, and not in a resort, she has more questions than answers. And her attraction to the island’s owner, Jonathan Tyler, feels like some kind of fate. But first she has to overcome the resistance she feels as she fights the growing lust between them.

Probably the connection Rhianna feels for Jonathan’s deaf daughter helps her overcome her resistance.

But despite the wonderful island moments and the romantic episodes that mesh the two in unexpected ways, Rhianna could not have anticipated what would happen next. A secret from the past that connects the lovers in mysterious ways could be the kiss of death for their new love.

Meanwhile, danger lurks nearby, hovering just out of their sight.

Will Jonathan and Rhianna overcome the past and find true love? Will the strange ties that bind the characters in this haunting tale bring happiness or loss?

"Lancelot’s Lady" was a romance with a lot of passion and suspenseful moments that kept me turning the pages. In this story of love, longing, secrets, and family connections, I found this author’s segue into romance very satisfying. Five stars!

Last October 2010 I hosted Ms D’Angelo on her virtual book tour for Lacelot’s Lady. For those that watched my dramatic reading of an excerpt for the book, they would’ve seen how much I was into the story. Reading the entire book was something that I had promised myself to do—and I was not disappointed. Lancelot’s Lady followed the experiences of troubled palliative care nurse, Rihanna McLeod, from the moment that she met the ailing tycoon, JT Lance, to when she was sent on vacation to a secluded island in the Bahamas, where she met Jonathan—a miserable, but well-off loner and owner of his own island. There was a bit of Christopher Plummer/Julie Andrews situation in the beginning of their relationship (If you watched The Sound of Music then you’d know what I’m talking about), but it ended well. Many questions were brought up in the beginning and they were all answered at the very end.

The sleazy private investigator was a nice touch, although I would’ve hated him more had he been introduced a bit earlier in the story.

I’m not big on romance novels, but the characters in Lancelot’s Lady were so well developed with their own flaws that the story held my interest from the beginning straight through to the end.

I originally downloaded this book so I would have something light to read during a day (tomorrow) of airports, layovers and flights. I should have waited to start reading it. Once I got started I didn't want to put it down and I didn't.

I'm not going to do an all-out review with descriptions, etc. No need when others on this site have done it better than I ever could. But I will say that I love how Rhianna and Jonathan came together. I loved all of the characters whether they be main (Rhianna, Jonathan) or secondary (JT, Misty, Higgins, etc). There was just enough suspense to keep the story interesting until the end. No boring lags where details are added just to take up space. Everything was relevant and it flowed smoothly. The ending was perfect.

This is my first by this author. It most definitely will not be my last.

I was asked if I would read this book and write a review and I said "SURE - I love to read!!!"

When I started the book, I was a little skeptical. But once I got into the book, I realized that this was another one of those "I just can't put this book down" type books!!!

Rhianna McLeod (a nurse) who gets a job taking care of J.T. Lance (an elderly billionaire who has been given 6 months to live). As a gift for her birthday, J.T. sends Rhianna to the Bahamas for a much needed vacation. Rhianna heads to the Bahamas but finds that she is staying on a remote island and not at a lush resort. She finds out that Jonathan is the owner of the island and literally falls in love with him and his daughter (Misty).

I don't want to say much more because I do NOT want to give the story away!! BUT - I can suggest that you read it and enjoy the outcome.

Amazon Freebie!

I tend to have really low expectations from freebie Kindle reads, as so many of them are just pure crap. But this was a surprisingly enjoyable story! Well written, solid character development, appropriate plot points. I think I expected it to be a little steamier, but it's still an adult read. The story was decent, but it was the characters that shined... shone? Whatever.

The story kept me interested until the very end. It was quick, but fully developed. I'm really glad I managed to find it when it was free because I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise and would have missed out on an enjoyable story.

This book is first and foremost a gentle romance with a hint of mystery on the side and the occasional steam. All of the characters have their good points as well as their bad but this only makes them more believable. I think that Misty (the daughter) has to actually be one of my favourites as she isn't portrayed as the usual saccharine sweet or poison ivy daughter but is a realistic mix of the two.

A few twists and turns in this book especially towards the end as you would expect, along with a couple of red herrings.

Recommended for any romance reader who doesn't want anything too heavy.

Lancelot's Lady is a compelling and emotional tale of two people destined for one another. The suspense builds and builds until the stunning and shocking conclusion is revealed. D'Angelo pens a wonderful story of two passionate souls searching for someone to complete them. The sparks fly and the attraction sizzles between Jonathon and Rhianna, and the pages just fly by as this reader found herself captivated with their story. I absolutely loved it!!

Got this as a freebie from the Kindle store. It was OK, but nothing worth paying for. The plot sux, the characters are OK, the best part is the developing relationship between the heroine and the daughter of the hero.
