Loved this book! I have offered to lend it to a ton of people. Most don't want to read it... but it is so good! Simple, common sense advice - told in an entertaining, easy to read book. Wish I would have read this 10 years ago... Ah-well. We are almost done with baby step #1!!!
I was recommended this book by a friend/ colleague. I've been pretty decent with money since I got my first paycheck when I was 18, but like many others I've struggled with where to go from there. Budgets seemed overwhelming. Bills continued to stack up weather I was prepared to pay them or not, and money just felt like one of those things I avoided. I always wondered how folks became so financially wealthy and fit and thinking to myself man how lucky those guys must be. Then I picked up this book and started reading. I couldn't get over how absolutely SIMPLE it can be and is to budget and save money. Dave Ramsey and his team give you the tools you need to live like no one else, you just have to bring discipline and intensity.
Seriously! If you are someone who struggles with financial heath and fitness, you NEED to pick this book up! You won't regret a word of it!
So many people struggle with debt. Dave Ramsey’s straightforward approach for getting out of debt is basic and direct. I recommend this book not only for those in debt, but for those who never want to be. Leo Morin Branch Manager, Timmins
My husband and I have always followed Dave Ramsey’s principles, but I had never read this book. I think this book is great for veteran and newbies who budget, save, and are (or wanting to be) debt free. Dave Ramsey’s writing helps keep you interested and is very motivational. Really great and will probably read it again a year from now when we set new goals.
Stop spending money you don't have. Stop with cards and loans. Save as much as possible. Live your own life, don't try to live like others or "keep up". Stop and think before each and every purchase. Struggle now to be okay later. The sooner you Stop and fix the problems now, the less of a hole you have to get out of.
Not totally new knowledge, but an easier and simple way to hear them.
Since I began my new position at St. John's, one of the classes I am now in charge of is Financial Peace University. I am currently going through the course and it has been great. If anything, this book should encourage you to take a step back and analyze your financial health. Most people I have found do not live within their means. In fact, they don't know truly what their income is. This book, as well as the class, has given my wife and I the resources and courage to "Live like no one else, so later we can live like no one else." We do not want to be normal anymore, because normal is broke...and we love the idea that being in debt, does not have to be a way of life. There is something to be said about having $1000+ in an emergency fund...in fact, we now have an emergency fund for the emergency fund...as crazy at that sounds.
If you are a Kyosaki fan, this book is not for you. Dave Ramsey is all about living within your means and ZERO debt. The thing I love about Ramsey is his baby steps. He establishes seven baby steps to follow to become debt free and on the road to complete financial freedom. These steps are attractive because they are doable no matter what your current financial situation may be. I loved this book and my wife and I live by the rules and we have made amazing progress. We also follow his envelope budget system which has been an amazing financial tool. Great read.
The book was a bit slow to get into at times, and naturally not everything was applicable to me, but boy, I was entertained, and they are great principles to learn early! I took a Family Finance class this year and it complimented what I learned from this book a lot! Definitely one not to miss for anyone who wants to understand money and debt, and address both wisely to make sure you are a wise financial steward.
Great and down to earth book. Even though I do not agree with all of Mr. Ramsey's pop theology and many things described are only relevant for people in the US, I wish I'd read it at the beginning of my Christian walk in order to see the foolishness of debt and to have a simple financial plan for the future.
While I knew the first half of this book it wasn't until the last half that got my attention and the highlighter and sticky notes came out. If you know about Dave Ramsey this book won't be new information but it elaborates on each baby step a little more and the stories help motivate you to be a success as well.
I don’t have the workbook or anything but just listened to the audiobook in one night - so interesting! I was skeptical of how much this book would idolize money but Dave Ramsey talks about what the Word says about money and discusses many different myths. I definitely think everyone should read this book and follow the steps!
I've read a lot of different get out of debt books but this is the first one that I couldn't put down until I had read the whole thing. After reading it I feel excited that I can get in control of my debt and get it all paid off. I can't wait to get started!
