This is a great how-to book. Each chapter focuses on a part of the bike (e.g. bottom bracket) and has a detailed discussion of different styles, general maintenance, what you might want to change to modify performance, etc. Then, there are a series of photographs showing the most common operations you'd want to perform on the most common configurations.
Recently, I needed to replace a spoke on the cassette side of the rear wheel. I decided to do it myself rather than bring it to the shop so, having never attempted such a thing before, I got the proper tools, removed and cleaned the cogs, replaced the spoke, and put it all back together again.
Great reference book and also decent as a read-through just to familiarized yourself with various bicycle components and how to avoid problems before they get to the take-it-apart stage.
