Bad luck, bad timing and a truly bad decision have taken the mischief right out of this Menace. Grown-up and wiser, I'm finally ready to take charge of my life. I'm through being impulsive. I'm done being reckless. I will not take up with a scoundrel again.
So much for good intentions.
Jake Kimball is a legend -- daring, dashing and dangerous. A treasure hunter by trade, he has traveled the globe seeking adventure and stealing hearts. But now he's set his sights on me. Facing a threat unlike any other, Jake needs something only I can provide. He lures me with a dream I believed lost forever, and tempts me with the chance to change my bad luck.

Life has dealt Katrina McBride some serious blows. She has vowed that she will never trust a man again. When she sees a man from her past that she believes stole her prized necklace, Kat stops at nothing to get it back. Jake Kimball quickly sees through her disguise and believes Kat is the woman he needs in his life. She is the perfect mother for his orphaned nieces and nephew. But trying to convince her of that fact will take some work.
This is another satisfying story in the Bad Luck Brides series. I loved Jake and Kat. They were hilarious together and had fantastic chemistry. The four nieces and nephew were fun. They very much reminded me of Kat and her sisters from the first few books in the series. So, if I liked them so much, why didn't I give this book a better rating? I'm so sick of the necklaces and the McBride curse. That storyline dragged the last third of the book to a screeching halt. I think we could have easily edited out 70 pages without the curse. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
This was a well-written, fast-paced book. Kat McBride has lived through heartbreak and tragedy and just wants a quiet life. Then she meets adventurer Jake Kimball and things will never be the same for either of them. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of a series with related characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as others by this author.
HER SCOUNDREL book 2 in The Bad luck brides trilogy by Emily March was even better than the first book Kat and Jake certainly both had their share of bad luck and heart ache. I moved right into the book like I always do with Emily's story ... Jake and Kat got their HEA but the mystery of bad luck is not over and I can't wait for the next book. HER OUTLAW Emma and Dair's story.
I love this series. Can't wait to see what will happen to Emma and the curse. Kat has had enough to men that she can't depend on, but she gets mixed up with Jake. Jake inherits his sister's 4 daughters and 1 son. He is at his wit's end and doesn't know what to do with the kids. He is an adventurer, not a man who can put down roots. He got the bright idea to advertise for a wife. Kat is sure that he is the one who took her necklace and so she sets out to get it back. It should be easy while he is entertaining potential brides. She ends of marrying Jake and almost as soon as the ink is dry on the wedding license, he is taking off for Tibet. Leaving her with the children. Luke can't believe that he actually misses Kat and the children. Will she be able to forgive him? On his way back to his family, he encounters lots of bad luck and it continues once they are in the same town. He needs to figure out how to change his luck and Kat's mind.
2.5 stars. Unfortunately no where near as good as the first book in the series.
Jake lacked personality, I found him to be quite a bore and he didn't stand out in any way. Kat was also a little underwhelming. I didn't fully take a liking to her in the first book, however was interested in her story. But her story, and the book in general, just felt a bit formulaic. I was bored most of the time and never felt connected to any of the characters. I therefore couldn't root or believe in the romance.
Also found quite a few errors in my kindle version. Main one being the author calling Jake "Luke" (the male lead from the first book) a few times, which took me out of the story. I think the author kept forgetting whose story she was writing...
Anyway, disappointed with this one and hope Emma's journey in the next book is more on par with Mari's, as unfortunately Kat's was not great.
This book is one in a series about a Bad Luck Wedding Dress. It can also be read as a stand alone. I really enjoy the characters in this book. They are well developed and likable. It's the story of the youngest sister, Kat and her journey to break the curse that is on her family. I like that, even though it's Kat's story, the two sister's are still in this book. Looking forward to seeing what the next book will entail. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance, humor and a little bit of mystery.
This is a fun historical romance with just enough drama and humor to make it a great, relaxing, weekend read. I enjoy Geralyn Dawson/Emily March's style and thankfully she has a good editor so I am not distracted by typos and poor sentences. The adventures of the McBride Family always keep me interested.
It was a long hard road but Kat and Jake finally found their true love. The story has many interesting twists and turns and ends leaving the reader wanting more!
This is the second of three stories about the McBride Menaces as they are growing up. Kat is the focus of this book. From HER BODYGUARD, we know that Kat married an actor, Rory Callahan, became pregnant and found she was married to a bigamist.
Kat was devastated when Rory died … trying to do the right thing. As this book opens, Kat and Emma are in Galveston, talking to one Jake Kimball, adventurer and scoundrel extraordinaire. Jake and Kat are interested in each other but it is years later before they meet again.
Things I liked: The chemistry between Jake and Kat was great, they were funny together and the story had lots of twists. It was great having Luke and Mari play important roles in this story. Most of the McBride's were also part of this tale; Trace and his worries over his 3 daughters are amusing.
Perhaps I shouldn't have read HER SCOUNDREL on the heels of the one before; the curse of the McBride clan got a bit old. I also thought the solution (at the end) was a bit too pat. Otherwise, this is a page-turner.
Bad Luck Brides 1. The Bad Luck Wedding Dress (1996) 2. The Bad Luck Wedding Cake (1998) 3. Cold Feet (2000) (in A Season in the Highlands) 4. The Bad Luck Wedding Night (2001) 5. Her Bodyguard (2005) ** 6. Her Scoundrel (2005) 7. Her Outlaw (2007)
This is a book that focuses on Pain and Redemption. This is Kat's Story. Of the three sisters, I see Kat as the most needy. She had a weak moment in her young adult life that she has paid for for a long time. Her hero, Jake also is needy, spending his life chasing the loss of his brother. Both are scoundrels, both are loving and love family. It was fun watching them clash, and, finally come together. This is the second Menace's book. I can't wait to read the third.
Not a lot of adventure in this one, but some good chemistry between Kat McBride and Jake Kimball - the scoundrel. She tries to best him and ends up marrying him. He runs off and leaves her with his 5 orphaned nieces and nephew. Will she forgive him when he comes back? I gave it a 3.5 as opposed to a 4 for Her Bodyguard because I thought there was too much repetion about the so-called McBride curse.

just love this series! There were a few sad parts in this one but it turned out well. I did have a few moments when I had to remind myself kat was grown up and not the little girl from earlier in the series
Emily March continues the story of the Bad Luck Brides, specifically the Curse of Clan McBride, in HER SCOUNDREL. Our hero, Jake Kimball (the scoundrel), and our heroine, Kat McBride, are both suffering from events and decisions made in their pasts. How their pasts influence their deepening relationship provides the basis of this book.
Author March does an excellent job fleshing out her characters so we understand their motivations. Even when Jake and Kat are acting at cross-purposes, we find ourselves rooting for both of them. Secondary characters, especially Jake’s nieces, are a delight, too.
HER SCOUNDREL picks up just months after the conclusion of HER BODYGUARD. Although the book can be read as a stand-alone, you’ll enjoy it more if you read HER BODYGUARD first.
