This was an enjoyable exploration of the behaviors of a few different snake species. I was a little surprised the text didn't make a bigger deal out of the fact that rattlesnakes are venomous and therefore dangerous, but my kids did seem to appreciate that it didn't portray snakes as inherently scary.
Possibly the best book on snakes ever written. If anyone, absolutely anyone, tells you otherwise they are not only deeply incorrect but also likely a broken human. Truly excellant literature
I really, truly love this series. I don't think there's been a book yet that I haven't enjoyed from it. We read this for Circle Time today and both the younger boys (ages 8 and 6) really liked it. They asked a lot of questions and made additional comments about snakes from previous books and movies they've read. Who knew they knew so much? With all their snake knowledge, there were a few things here that we didn't know. While the pictures are illustrations and not photos, they are very well done and helped us properly identify the various parts of the snake's anatomy.
A good, solid book for the younger set. By second grade you'd probably want something more in-depth, but this is a great starting point.
