Linda Palmer admits it all started when she fell in love with Roy Rogers in the fifties. The family TV was boxy; the picture was black and white. That didn’t matter. Roy’s cowboy courage won the day and inspired her to create elaborate scenarios when playing with her sisters and friends outside. Indoors, she read romances in every genre from Sci Fi to Gothic.
Linda began writing for pleasure in the third grade, mostly poetry, and has letters from her grade school teachers predicting she'd be an author. Her poems eventually became short stories; her short stories became books. And even though a writing career was never actually a dream, it was something she pursued with intent after winning some writing contests and joining local and national writers’ groups.
Silhouette Books published Linda's first romance novel in l989 and the next twenty over a ten-year period (writing as Linda Varner, her maiden name). In 1999 she took a ten-year break to take care of her family, but learned that she couldn't not write. She began again in 2009, changing her genre to young adult/new adult paranormal romance. She has now written over a hundred novels and novellas ranging from traditional romance to erotica. Linda was a Romance Writers of America Rita finalist twice and won the 2011 and 2012 EPIC eBook awards in the Young Adult category. She was also a finalist in that category in 2013 and in 2014.
Linda has been married to her junior high school sweetheart over fifty years and lives in Arkansas, USA with her family. Ever a hopeless romantic, she still falls for unattainable Hollywood heroes that inspire her to write romances about alpha males and the women who stand up to them. Linda hints that her current crush’s name starts with Tom and ends with Hardy. Her website is www.lindavpalmer.com. You can also find her on Facebook: Linda Varner Palmer.
A nice, quick, easy read in which you don't have to think too much. Andee is a 18 year old student of holistic healing who is house sitting her tutor's cabin. Whilst there, she rescues Jonah after he falls into a lake after being attacked by werewolves. Andee pulls his unconscious body from the lake and drags him back to the cabin. After referencing her teacher's book of holistic healing, she prepares a salve to apply to his bites and scratches and puts him to bed. When she awakes in the morning, he has already gone. Jonah is also 18 and is on the run from his step-father Harlan. He believes Harlan has cast some kind of spell over his mother Lydia, and that Harlan also wants him dead. With no money and nowhere to go, Jonah goes to Andee's apartment and waits for her to return home.
The story is quite enchanting as both Jonah and Andee discover that werewolves do actually exist.... which is kind of obvious after Jonah changes into one on the full moon! Believing her teacher Brigit to be a witch, Andee seeks advice from her and Andee's landlord Titus. She comes away from the meeting distraught when she finds out that werewolves are considered evil and dangerous and are sought out and put to death to protect humans and others in the preternatural world. And to make matters worse, Titus is a werewolf hunter! Andee hides Jonah (in his wolf form) at her best friend TK's house, which isn't such a good idea as Jonah seems to hate TK on site. Despite having to fight for their lives at one point, there is a happily ever after for more than one couple.
OK, so you want to know what I think is the mark of a great book? I miss the MCs right after I finish the book. I miss Andee. I miss Jonah. I miss TK. And then I’m still missing them hours later.
Oh, and I also want my own personal werewolf. I’m sure he/she will fit in just fine in our tiny apartment, what with my wife, son, 2 cockatiels and a rabbit. But you just have to make sacrifices for the good things in life.:)
Linda Palmer writes awesome characters. She writes awesome shifters. Read her books. Now!
I really enjoyed this book. I think the world building could have been a bit more extensive but overall all I liked the main characters, the writing style and story flow. I will definitely read more books by this author.
