Daizy is ready to dazzle everyone with her brand-new pink guitar - maybe she'll even find her star quality! But then Dad comes up with another crazy idea, which means swapping happy family life for milking African goats. Eeeek! Daizy needs a clever plan.
I was born in 1962 in Coventry (scarily ancient, I know). I wrote my first picture book for my little brother when I was eight or nine. I loved making comics, too - pages and pages of picture stories, features and competitions.
I went to Art College in Liverpool, then got a job as fiction editor on the fab and legendary Jackie magazine.
I have worked as agony aunt on Shout magazine and also as an art teacher in the local primary & secondary schools, as well as as a freelance illustrator. These days, I am a full-time author.
I love my family, I love living in the middle of nowhere and I love my work. Of all my jobs, writing has to be the best - it's the perfect excuse to daydream, after all!
Daizy Star is the second book of the Daizy Star series by Cathy Cassidy. Daizy has some crazy family problems to deal with in this book - finding out what here star feature is, and friends that think Ethan is the cutest boy in the school (bleugh!). But the biggest problem is Daizy's Dad's 'mid-life' crisis. He wants to go to Malawi and build schools and wells, and teach the kids. Unfortunately, no-one else in the family wants to go, including Daizy's mum. It's up to Daizy to find a solution to all the problems.
This is an enjoyable read for upper primary, despite the 'lovey-dovey' stuff, which is actually resolved reasonably well. The voices feel genuine, and although Daizy is a huge dramar queen, her heart is firmly 'in the right place'.
Daizy is once again at risk of having to leave her home because of one of her dad's mid-life crisis epiphanies. He is set on taking the family to Malawi for a year to help build a school and dig a well. Daizy's only option is to take her new pink guitar, form a band with her three besties and win Battle of the Bands for the £500 prize money (to pay for the stuff Malawi needs) - lack of skill, practice or a can of lemonade shouldn't get in her way! Another hilarious adventure for the ever positive Daizy Star. A funny, easy read for kids (and adults).
Daizy just got out of a crazy idea of sailing the world from her dad. And now her dad wants to give up water, food , electricity and all their friends and family to live in Africa and build a school, well and a nightmare for Daizy. Daizy has to win Battle of the bands with her new pink guitar and give the prize money to the poor people in Africa or she can say goodbye to her life and go to Africa.
