Beloved inspirational romance author Jennifer Beckstrand continues her uplifting Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series featuring Huckleberry Hill, Wisconsin’s, irrepressible eighty-something matchmakers Anna and Felty Helmuth! Will appeal to readers of Amish and inspirational romance and fans of Charlotte Hubbard, Amy Lillard, and Emma Miller.
Martha Sue Helmuth wishes she could just relax and enjoy her extended visit with her beloved grandparents. Instead, she is nursing a broken heart over gentle widower Yost Beiler. Yost’s thirteen-year-old son, Jonah, refuses to accept Martha Sue, and she refuses to risk coming between them. For now, she is just trying to avoid her Mammi’s choice of yet another eligible suitor. But when Yost moves himself and Jonah to Huckleberry Hill to change Martha Sue’s mind, she can't help dreaming that somehow, some way, she and Yost will have a miraculous second chance to be together . . .
After his wife’s untimely death, Yost did everything he could to help Jonah through his grief. He hopes that Martha Sue's outgoing family—and her generous ways—will show his son how loving and trustworthy she truly is. But Anna and Felty's matchmaking antics are inspiring Jonah to drive Martha Sue off for good. And when he goes too far, can Yost and Martha Sue find the understanding to forgive him—and the strength to prove they can overcome differences to make one joyous forever family?

I alway enjoy reading books written by Jennifer Beckstrand because they usually are filled with humor. They all are easy reads and her stories just seem to flow off the pages and into the reader’s heart. Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill certainly didn’t disappoint this reader. Entertaining and unpredictable incidents filled each chapter and kept me turning pages. This is the first book in the Huckleberry Hill series that I have read but I was able to read it as a standalone book. I do feel that I would gain a lot of reading enjoyment if I were to start at the very beginning of this series. The characters were a delight to get to know and it didn’t take me long to grow to love them as my friends. Well maybe not Vernon Schmucker because he was a little into himself. But in a way he was kind of cute too. He definitely added to the story.
Martha Sue Helmuth and Yost Beiler are in love with each other. Only problem is that Yost’s young son Jonah doesn’t like Martha Sue. He has done everything in his power to make her life miserable. Finally Martha Sue , not wanting to come between Yost and his son Jonah, leaves Ohio and moves in with her grandparents in Bonduel Wisconsin. Martha Sue’s grandparents are Amish matchmakers and they are determined to find her a husband. Martha Sue is still in love with Yost and she just wants to be left alone. The last thing she wants is another man. This is how the story begins and that’s all I’m going to tell you. Find out what happens when you read this delightful story.
I recommend this book to readers of Amish Fiction, Christian Fiction and fans of Jennifer Beckstrand. This book is scheduled for release on 5/23/23.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions about the book that I have shared here in this review are my own.
I'm always excited to read a book by Jennifer Beckstrand! She has a wonderful way of blending laugh out loud humor with more subtle humor, unique characters, and depth of emotion. Anna and Felty are their usual lovable selves, and I have to say that I appreciate them even more after reading the prequel novel that tells their story, First Christmas on Huckleberry Hill. Anna is quirky as ever and sly as a fox as she tries to help Martha and Yost overcome the obstacles to their relationship. And they have a pretty big one- Yost's young teenage son who is struggling with all the hard emotions that come with the circumstances he is in. Shenanigans abound, with Yost's love and attention divided between the two most important people in his life. And Vernon Schmucker showing up for food doesn't help matters either... I'm so curious as to whether he will ever find love!

We join Anna and Felty again in the Huckleberry Hill series, but instead of being matchmakers, they are trying to heal their granddaughters broken heart. I enjoyed the change of storyline and found it to be engaging, fun and refreshing with likable characters. I am anxious to see if this series continues so we can determine who is in need of Anna and Felty’s services next.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book given to me by the publisher and NetGalley for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
First of all i want to thank Netgalley, Jennifer Becksrand and Kensingon Books Zebra for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book.
This is the 11th book in the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill Series by Jennifer Beckstrand. I have not read any of the previous books in this series but they are on my to be read shelf. This one was such a good story, i fell in love with the characters from the beginning. Martha Sue was living in Ohio but came back to Bonduel Wisconsin to help out her grandparents and she was also running away from love, but Yost Beiler didn't make that easy for her because he moved himself and his selfish, spoiled son Jonah to Wisconsin also. Jonah was acting out because of the loss of his mother and was afraid to let his father move on, thinking Martha Sue would kick him out or be an evil stepmother. But that was all in his head and so far from the truth. As the story unfolds a lot of heartfelt talks and rescues brought this to a happy ending. I loved this story and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good clean amish romance. I will be reading more books from this series hopefully soon. So many books and so little time.
I cannot think of a time when I have had those moments of bursting out in laughter recently. Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is absolutely amazing. The characters are well described and the scenes so vivid I felt as if I was standing hidden away as the story unfolds. There is everything to love about this book. There is humor among the theme which I'm sure readers will relate to. What's a young unmarried Amish woman to do when the man she loves has a son that is not very accepting of her courtship with his father. Martha Sue Helmuth has loved Yost Beiler for as long as she can remember but after many mishaps with his son Jonah, Martha Sue decides it's time to leave Charm, Ohio and spend time with her grandparents in Bonduel, Wisconsin. As Martha Sue goes about her daily routine her meddling grandparents have decided to help her find love. Vernon Schmucker is the man that Mammi has decided would make a good mate for Martha Sue and has arranged for him to come to dinner but Yost has travelled with his son to try and convince Martha Sue to go back to Charm. From this point on the reader will find themselves giggling at the "trials and tribulations" this family goes through and feel the frustration as time and again either Johan or Vernon interfere with Yost's desire to win Martha Sue back. For readers that have blended families like I do they will certainly connect with the characters, feel their desire to begin a new life while dealing with a child that assumes that all stepmothers are evil and unloving. What I loved about the book was how kind Martha Sue was to Jonah no matter what devious plan he came up with. Vernon Schmucker will make you frustrated one minute and laughing at his attitude the next. This is such a sweet story where forgiveness is written in a way that will delight readers. I give this book ten stars and can't wait to read more by this author.
I loved Yost and Martha Sue’s second (maybe third) chance story. This one had me feeling all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. Martha Sue has moved to Wisconsin from Ohio to live with her grandparents and heal her heart after breaking up with Yost. The break up was necessary because Jonah, Yost’s 13 year old son, had done some mean things to get rid of Martha Sue. Yost follows Martha Sue to Wisconsin to try to change her mind. Of course, forgiveness and love is sometimes a very difficult choice to make even though “the more love you spread around, the more it multiplies.” I enjoyed that the chapters were from Martha Sue and Jonah’s point of view since their relationship was where the real conflict was. As a result, Jonah was such a wonderful and integral character in this story rather than a flimsy story prop. In his chapters we got to see him as a real, relatable person, just like Yost and Martha Sue. They all have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy fallible humans. This was a beautiful story of second chances, grace, forgiveness, and love all within the beautiful backdrop of the Amish community’s faith and lifestyle. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I am never disappointed in this author’s books.
Those Matchmakers are at it again! Martha Sue moves from Ohio to Wisconsin to put some distance between herself and Yost, the man she loves and wants to forget about, which doesn’t work out so well since he decides to follow her. There are challenges galore for Martha Sue and Yost, the son of Yost has tried his best to come between them, grandparents Anna and Felty have decided to find Martha Sue the perfect match and it’s not Yost.
Let’s just say, hilarity ensues as it usually does in this series, and yet there are a few things that brought a bit of sadness, but not for long as the author managed to infuse some more funny moments along the way. This is another terrific addition to the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series. This can be read as a standalone but do yourselves a favor and read the entire series and since this is suitable for all ages you can share it with readers both younger and older.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book. Opinions are my own.
I love Jennifer Beckstrand books but this one wasn't as funny as the other Huckleberry Hill books. But it was a good story and romance between Martha Sue Helmuth and widower Yost Beiler.
Anytime a Huckleberry Hill book has Anna saying "I have a plan", you better watch out! This is one of my favorite series by Jennifer Beckstrand and I am thrilled that I was asked to give my advanced reader review. As usual the fun that happens up the hill at Anna and Felty's home can't be missed. Poor granddaughter Martha Sue has been chosen as the receiver of their matchmaking ways! Will Vernon, Yost, and Jonah stand a chance? Laughter and pranks aside you will have to pick a side and see who gets the title as GROOM! Another wonderful story that I plan on rereading often!
Martha Sue loves Yost, yet chooses to step aside when Yost’s son, Jonah, refuses to accept her. She heads to her grandparent's house in Huckleberry Hill to nurse her broken heart. At thirteen, Jonah is still mourning his mother’s untimely death. Meanwhile, Yost refuses to let Martha Sue go, and instead moves himself and Jonah to Huckleberry Hill, in order to change her mind.
With Jonah trying to drive Martha Sue off for good, and her grandparents trying to play matchmaker, can Yost and Martha Sue get their second chance at happiness? When Jonah goes too far, can Yost and Martha Sue forgive him, and still find the strength to make one joyous forever family?
A sweet, quick read easily finished in an hour. I can’t wait for Jennifer’s next book!
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

My thoughts: 🔖Page 15 of 248 Ch. 2 - So chapter 1 in this book is the prologue from the last book, word for word. I considered skipping it, but you know just in case they changed something. The end was tweaked a little with the epilogue. Ch. 2 better not be the epilogue. 😂 It looks like it might be the start of it. 🔖175 Ch. 15 - I'm going to be late! One more chapter has got me into this situation. The story is very good. Interesting POVs.
This story was fun. There was a lot of antics and the underlying message was great.
Recommend to others: Yes. This was a good time story.

You wouldn't want to miss even a single book from this author. Every book she writes, leaves you wanting more! And book 11 in this series was exactly that! More please! The author has another hit! I love a good matchmaker story starring Felty and Anna and this was wonderful. The humor, the emotions and family relationships were well captured and I hate to see that I am nearing the end of the book as I am reading. I love this light-hearted writing style that gives you that "feel-good" feeling at the end of the book. Don't miss this one!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

Martha Sue Helmuth is visiting her beloved grandparents, Anna and Felty Helmuth, while nursing a broken heart. She loves widower Yost Beiler and he loves her but Jonah, his thirteen-year-old son does not want them to marry and has played so many tricks on Martha Sue that she felt she had to leave home. Her matchmaking grandmother thinks Vernon Schmucker would be a perfect husband for her but Yost isn’t one to give up easily and moves to Huckleberry Hill to try to win Martha Sue back. Will Martha Sue and Yost end up together or will Jonah get his way?
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is a delightfully witty Amish romance – I was smiling the whole time I was reading it. While there are some serious moments – Martha Sue and Yost really do love each other but the obstacles seem insurmountable – characters like Vernon (I laugh just thinking about him) and Lily add just the right amount of humor to the book. Jonah does act up but he isn’t a complete brat, author Jennifer Beckstrand does a good job of showing just why he acts the way he does. Beckstrand also does a good job of the romance between Yost and Martha Sue – she takes her time as Martha Sue has to untangle her feelings for both Yost and Jonah and letting Jonah grow as a character. This is nicely done and comes to a satisfying conclusion. Finally, it is always a delight to visit with Anna and Felty again!
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is a delightful Amish romance.
Is it weird that I could care less about the main characters in every book in this series (sans #10 when they have their own love story) because I simply love Anna and Felty, the grandparents, more? Ga, they are just the funniest, sweetest, matchmakers who will stop at nothing to help their kin find love. Even if the way they try tends to always go wrong at some point.
Another heart warming, humorous and witty romance by Jennifer Beckstrand. Needing to heal from her broken, Martha Sue moves from Ohio to Huckleberry Hill, Wisconsin to spend time with her matchmaking grandparents, Anna and Felty Helmouth. Telling her grandmother not to matchmake for her because she is going to remain single. Anna has other ideas about that. With not many eligible men her granddaughters age, Anna has decided Vernon Smucker will be perfect for her. Yost can’t live without Martha Sue so he follows her with his son Jonah to win her back. Jonah lost his mom and doesn’t want a stepmother who is going to make his dad not live him and send him away. Jonah and his dad are a team. They don’t need them interloper. That’s why Jonah played mean tricks on Martha Sue so she wouldn’t marry his dad. Can Yost convince Martha Sue to open her heart? When Jonah goes to far with his mean tricks, can Martha Sue forgive him and allow her heart to love him and his dad? Great characters. You wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen. Definitely a must read. I was given this book to read and give my honest review.
My introduction to Jennifer Beckstrand was the Honeybee Sisters books but I certainly stuck around for the antics of the Huckleberry Hill books. Just when it seemed things had wrapped up, the author has again used the lovely setting to arrange another heartwarming romance for Anna and Felty's too-single descendants.
The twist here is Martha Sue has already found love. No need for the romantic journey to such. Instead the novel jumps to the problem at hand: Yost would be a perfectly eligible husband if it weren't for the behavior of his son Jonah, a young and rather spoiled teen determined to keep his dad single. So goes the web of a story: Martha Sue is determined to remain single, Yost tries to win her back, Anna meddles to arrange a romance with a local overgrown mama's boy, and Jonah tries to ruin everything.
It's a solid and very funny addition to the Huckleberry Hill series. Jennifer Beckstrand keeps up her fresh and quick pace with plenty of room for wit, snappy dialogue, and heart. I appreciated this deviation from the young love stories to a slightly older couple with their own set of challenges in the way to matrimony, and it's always good to see the humor, mistakes (Anna's stash of available bachelors is likely dwindling, she can't be entirely blamed), and wisdom of many years of the Huckleberry Hill couple. The writing is sparkling, and as always, there's a strong reminder of a lesson of love.
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand is a delightful Amish tale. I always look forward to returning to Huckleberry Hill. Anna and Felty Helmuth are a joy to visit. Anna always has something up her sleeve and Felty goes along because he loves his wife. I like Jennifer Beckstrand’s writing style. It is relaxed and engaging. It reminds me of chatting with old friends. The story is told from Martha Sue, Jonah, and Yost’s point of view in alternating chapters. I like that we get to see what each one is thinking and feeling. Jonah’s chapters are especially illuminating. The characters are developed and relatable. I like that we get to see them learn and grow. I enjoyed getting to know Martha Sue, Yost, and Jonah. Jonah is certainly a clever boy who can think up devilish pranks. Vernon Schmucker cannot take a hint. I understood why Anna kept inviting him to dinner, but Vernon is full of himself. I can see why he is not married and lives with his mother. If I was Martha Sue, I would have had Jonah play a prank or two on Vernon. I like that we get to catch up with characters from the previous books in the series. I laughed, chuckled, and giggled while reading this story. Anna should be banned from cooking. Some of her food combinations made me want to gag. Felty is the perfect mate for her since his tastebuds suffered from a burn (he cannot taste a thing). Anna is still knitting and always has a potholder ready to hand out to a potential beau for one of her grandchildren (or someone who could use a pick me up). Anna’s yarn colors are akin to her cooking choices (colorful). Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is the eleventh novel in The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series. While it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading this entire series. You will find yourself laughing frequently and wondering which relative will be Anna’s next victim (she is bound to run out of grandchildren). Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is a story of second (and third) chances, forgiveness, grace, Amish faith, family, and love. I found myself staying up late to finish the story while all the while not wanting the book to end. Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill is an entertaining Amish tale with a matchmaking Mammi, stomach-churning cooking creations, painful pranks, an irksome suitor, a dutiful Dawdi, a plethora of potholders, and a second chance romance.
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Backstrand, book eleven in The Matchmaker’s of Huckleberry Hill series, is sweet, humorous second chance story, dealing with the affect blended families have on the family members. Martha Sue Helmuth and Yost Beiler are in love with each other, except that Yost’s young son Jonah doesn’t like Martha Sue; he has done everything in his power to make her life miserable. Martha Sue not wanting to come between Yost and his son Jonah, leaves Ohio and moves in with her grandparents, Anna and Felty, in Bonduel Wisconsin. Martha Sue’s grandparents are Amish matchmakers but instead of being matchmakers, they are trying to heal their granddaughter’s broken heart. Martha Sue is still in love with Yost and she just wants to be left alone. The last thing she wants is another man; especially not the selfish, spoiled, Vernon Schmucker, who will frustrate you and then have you laughing at his attitude. Yost refused to let Martha Sue go, moving himself and his selfish, spoiled son Jonah to Wisconsin; living in Anna and Felty’s barn. Jonah was acting out due to the loss of his mother and being afraid that if his father move on and married again, the woman would reduce the time he spends with his father, not love him, kick him, out or be an evil stepmother. Only, it was all in his head and quite far from the truth. With a bit of hilarity, lots of heartfelt talks, sadness, and rescues, Jonah discovers that “the more love you spread around, the more it multiplies.” I loved how kind Martha Sue was to Jonah no matter what devious plan he came up with.
Ms Beckstrand adds another outstanding installment to a wonderful series; drawing me into the story making me feel as if I’m part of the story rather than a spectator. This was a beautiful story of second chances, grace, forgiveness, and love all within the beautiful backdrop of the Amish community’s faith and lifestyle. The emotions, issues, and challenges the characters face are not just those of the Amish, but could affect people worldwide. You will feel all the emotions while reading this book: joy, sorrow, anxiety, love, and especially laughter. I highly recommend Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Jennifer Beckstrand keeps the same theme going through all the books in her Huckleberry Hill series -- matchmaking by the most caring and fun mammi and dawdi in Wisconsin! But she manages to keep the stories fresh by going a little different direction, with just a little different twist, in each of the stories. Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill finds an additional character playing a big role in the matchmaking dilemma, in the person of a 13-year-old boy who is not happy with the fear of losing his dad to an unwanted stepmother.
This may be my favorite in the series so far. Jennifer Beckstrand has given us an engaging story filled with fun and with struggle. In addition to Anna and Felty and their beloved granddaughter Martha Sue, the story is complete with competing potential husbands and a couple of spirited and sneaky kids who make the matchmaking adventures extra fun and extra challenging. At some points you can't quite be sure which match-up Annie is really working toward -- or whether she herself is sure which is the main plan and which is a back-up plan. But after lots of twists and turns, of course, everything works out just as it should.
I highly recommend Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill to any fan of delightful Amish stories. In fact, if you haven't read the previous books in the series, I would suggest you give them all a try. (The order of the books is not terribly important in reading, but FYI, this is #11 in publication order.)
Another Great Story About The Huckleberry Hill Series
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand will tug at your heart strings and you'll fall in love with the characters especially the two tweens, Jonah and his friend from school, Lily. Felty and Anna Helmuth are known as the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill. They try to help out their grandchildren by pairing them up with other single young people within their community. Martha Sue finds her meddling grandmother, Anna, setting her up with a local unmarried man, Vernon, however her heart belongs to another. Yost Beiler and his son, Jonah, follows Martha Sue from Ohio to Wisconsin, to Huckleberry Hill, where Vernon is the unwanted third party. Jonah's and Lily's antics will hold your attention and keep you reading through to the end of the story
The characters come alive in the readers mind and becomes believable, true to life through the authors use of descriptive words and character building and situations of everyday living within the story line.
I have read many of this authors books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. She writes good clean stories that are appropriate for all age groups. You will feel like you are there with the characters, living life with them. A digital copy of this book was made available to me, in order to do this review. All opinions are my own.
Love takes work, but ever more than that, love takes courage. It not more love you need, it's courage.
Martha Sue was running from love on Huckleberry Hill. Going to her grandparents house was a risk taking. Her grandmother was known for matchmaking and Martha Sue had her chance at love. She just needed to spend time with her grandparents and heal.
Grandma had other plans and the man she was running from followed her to grandma house. Grandma saw an opportunity.
This is a sweet romance on blended families. Jonah the son of Yost was losing his father to Martha Sue and he made life difficult for her. With a sense of humor, wisdom that love brings, Martha must win Jonah in order for relationship with Yost to work. Love can be painful and with courage and patience, Martha with the help of her grandmother, wins the heart of a hurting young man.
I loved how Jonah expressed his insecurities and worked them with the help of community. Many lessons to learn about how we guard our heart and miss out. Don't miss out on this one!
A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Another great book by Jennifer Beckstrand! She is my favorite author, and the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill is one of my favorite series.
Martha Sue comes to stay with her grandparents Anna and Felty to try to mend her broken heart. She had fallen in love with a widower whose son was doing everything in his power to get rid of her. Anna and Felty decide to step in and help with their characteristic blend of wisdom and disaster.
This story was thoroughly engaging from beginning to end. The characters are well developed and lovable. You will laugh and cry along with the main characters, and you will be appropriately appalled by the selfishness of Vernon. Every time I read a Jennifer Beckstrand book, I think there is no way she will be able to top this story, but she always does. Her imagination and humor are amazing.
I completely enjoyed this story, and I would definitely recommend the book to anyone who likes to read Amish fiction. If you haven’t read the Huckleberry Hill series, you should start at the beginning. Every book in the series is fantastic.
This book was provided to me courtesy of Kensington through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Oh my goodness! One more trip up Huckleberry Hill is exciting! I love visiting Anna and Felty Helmuth! A reader never knows what antics Anna and Felty will go to in order to matchmake all of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanting to make sure everyone is as happy as they are, our matchmakers work hard to bring the couples together. This story was no different. Mary Sue Helmuth left home in order to get over her broken heart. from Widower Yost Beiler. While she really loves him and wants a life with him, his son Jonah does not want another mother. So in order to not drive a nail between father and son, Mary Sue leaves home to visit her grandparents. Anna sees the opportunity to "fix" Mary up with another suitor. But when Yost has other plans, will Anna change her mind on who is best? Will Jonah drive the final nail when he goes to far to alienate Mary? Or will he learn a lesson? Reading the series in order is not required but if you read just one then.... you will definitely want to read the rest. I look forward to our next hike up Huckleberry Hill! I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
This is a part of the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series by Jennifer Beckstrand. All of the books in this series are delightful and this one is equally delightful.
Matchmakers Anna and Felty Helmuth are at it again as their granddaughter, Martha, comes to visit them. Anna thinks it is time for Martha to get married. Martha, unbeknownst to Anna, is heartbroken over her broken relationship with widower, Yost Yoder. Jonah, son of Yost, refuses to accept Martha, as it has always been just him and his father since the death of his mother. Martha refuses to come between Yost and his son, so she breaks off the relationship. Yost is devastated and tries in so many ways to get Martha to come back to him and return his love.
This is a story of heartbreak, perseverance, love, anger, hurt, both physical and mental, and second chances. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish books and complicated romance.
I received a copy of this book from Kensington Zebra and NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
Since the first time I started reading this series, I think this is the first book I didn't absolutely adore. I liked it very much-I just didn't adore it. It was an interesting and heart-warming story, but it dragged on a tad too much for me.
Martha Sue, and Yorst love each other. There is one significant problem, though, Yorsts son really really dislikes Martha Sue. To the point that he physically hurts her and eventually her 80-something-year-old Mammi, Anna. It got to the point that I started disliking Jonah (the son).
Now, since this is a book about matchmaking, you'd better believe that Anna and Felty are up to their old tricks, which means there is another man in the mix. And boy, did I ever dislike him!
But don't worry, this is an Amish romance, and everything will work out for the best, and we will all learn some outstanding life lessons!
This was a fast, sweet, clean read with several chuckles throughout the book.

This is my first book I have read by Jennifer Beckstrand. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book by an Amish Author new to me and look forward to reading many more of her books. This is the 11th book in the series, but can be read as stand alone book.
I really enjoyed this book because the book expresses what is happening in this world today. There are broke families due to death and other situations out of our control. Even though as referenced in this book, a parent still loves their children so much and want their children to be happy, the single parent becomes lonely for someone to share their life with. The parent eventually may find someone and want the children to appreciate that person also, but the children who are younger may not want another person in their lives because that person may take time and attention from the child.
This book was fantastic to read and touched on so much reality that it was a blessing to read.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book for my honest review, all opinions are my own.
Ever had a line from a book just reach out and grab you? Mammi Anna tells Martha Sue this in the course of the story, and it blew me away: 'True love will always leave a mark. Just look at Jesus.' In addition to that beautiful reminder of love, Anna and Felty were at their usual chaotic best, with Anna especially trying to foist Vernon Schmucker upon Martha Sue, who wanted nothing to do with the plan to find her a husband. I loved that Martha Sue and Yost were already kind of an established couple, even though they were rather estranged due to Yost's son. I love that we got to see both Martha Sue's and Jonah's points of view, so we could understand where the 13 year old was coming from . . . even though he was going about everything all wrong. (Side note that I wish Yost had laid down the law sooner with Jonah, so that his actions did not border upon abusive.) Going back to Mammi Anna's reminder about love . . . she also reminded Martha Sue that love is a choice you make, day in and day out, no matter how many times your loved one is driving you up a wall.
Second Chances on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand will be released May 23, 2023. Thank you Kensington Books, Zebra and Jennifer Beckstrand for allowing me to read an advance copy. It is outstanding.
In this new book, Jennifer Beckstrand allows us to visit with Anna and Felty Helmuth of Huckleberry Hill along with their granddaughter, Martha Sue, who has come for a visit with her beloved grandparents. Little did she realize that her Matchmaking grandmother had other plans.
This is one of the best series, and this book holds your attention from the moment you read the first chapter. The characters are so believable that you become in twined with Martha Sue, Yost, and Jonah as the plot unfolds to get Martha Sue married.
This story is full of ups, downs, surprises, joy, tears and family life and struggles for maturity. It is with great pleasure I give this a 5-star review.
Opinions are my own, and I was not required to give a positive review.
