This is a small book, but full of meaning. I love how they break down Jesus' prayer and show us how we can follow His example. And SO many cross-references were included, which I loved because it helped me to better understand the meaning behind His prayer. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to deepen their prayer life and better understand why prayer is so important.
There isn't a lot of new info in this book, but instead it is written by two guys that actually seem to live it out. That is what makes it worth the read. Reading prayer books always encourages me to pray more.
Such an encouraging message to seek the heart of the Father through prayer just as Jesus did. Completely scripture based. I need to reread this one soon.
In this book the Blackaby’s (father and son) recount examples in their lives that align with the study they undertake in this book. The focus is on the prayer of Jesus, the Lord‘s prayer…the elements present within the prayer, how they apply to our prayer life, and utilizing the format to enrich the believers personal prayers. A great study for churches to go through as a group and a resource for all believers. Study questions and discussion guides are found in the back of the book to facilitate group study sessions as well as individual study. This is a resource I’ve read and taught more than once! Highly recommend!
This was not nearly as good as Experiencing God. The content was good. However, the writing was not as good. It felt a bit more like he journaled his thoughts and then shared them with the audience. All the content went together except it was seemless and smooth in the transitions and the connections. It was all important information just written in more of a brain dump loosely connected way.
This is a very good book on prayer as taught by Jesus. The book uses the Lord's prayer as a guide to show us what prayer really is to Jesus and thus his followers too. Filled with examples and Bible versus, this book challenges anyone willing to a deeper understanding of prayer and the practical experiences that follow.
Jesus prayed as if his life and mission depended on it. He knew that it was his connection with his Father for direction and empowerment and encouragement. We need that too. Our life and mission and the world depends on us connecting with the Father and submitting to his will.
A wonderful book about prayer that will always be relevant for the new Christian as well as those who have been Christian's gor a long time. Adding this book to your Christian library will help anyone who desires to begin or improve their prayer life.
This book was okay but I expected so much more. One important statement was "If Jesus was convinced that His own life and ministry depended upon his prayer life with the Father, we …. must set our hearts to maintain uninterrupted time in prayer with our Lord..."
This is a helpful book on prayer. Focusing on the importance Jesus put on prayer and the way in which He prayed is relevant to both the brand new Christian and someone who has been a Christian for quite a while.
It says in this book we should pray according to God's will and not only for the things that are our will. It teaches that we ought to have a time and place for praying regularly.
I read Spiritual Leadership these authors. I thought they did a great job at stating the obvious and exhorting people to live in the Spirit and lead, doing whatever God had called them to do. In this book I felt they also did a fine job stating to obvious, observing the importance and power of prayer in Jesus 19 life. The key verse they used was one I wouldn 19t have thought of. In the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears 26 was heard because of His godly fear. (Hebrews 5.7) Even Jesus cried out to God. Even Jesus prayed with a powerful intensity. Sometimes He even prayed all night. I felt convicted, that I need to pray more and take it as seriously as Jesus did.
I was deeply affected by this approach to prayer. Blackaby uses scripture to make the case that Jesus maintained a constant, consistent, prayerful dependance on the Father. He wanted nothing more, nothing less than to do exactly what God the Father showed Him.
Jesus processed the events of His life through prayer and was always submissive to accept and live out the answers that God gave Him.
Especially helpful were the questions in the back of the book to help me 'process' the message of the book.
One of the best books on the reality of a strong prayer life I have ever read: scriptural, practical, believable.
Prayer is something that every believer knows they should be doing but often struggle to do. Henry and Norman present a scripture saturated read that demonstrates the critical elements of Jesus' life and ministry was rooted in prayer.
The critical take away for me was going back to God in prayer and asking him to "teach me to pray."
I have loved Henry's approach to prayer since I first encountered him in Experiencing God. This is a GREAT read for someone wanting to enhance their personal prayer live
