"Low Country Liar" is the story of Lisa and Slade.
A exasperating comedy of errors, this book is based in South Carolina. Our h has a distant aunt, who is an absent minded writer. She comes to know that her aunt has a male friend, and immediately suspects that he might be cheating her when some money gets involved. She goes to investigate and meets the tiger like hero. However, the heroine then takes the opportunity to investigate, and pretends to be his new secretary, complete with a wig and change of clothes. The plot then proceeds into this absurd double life the heroine then begins to lead, pretending to be his very married secretary during the day and his very antagonistic and attractive nemesis at night. All this culminates into a very anti climactic and predictable ending.
Totally let me down.

It's 1978 and feisty 24 year old career woman Lisa is convinced that her aunt is being swindled by a golddigger gigolo, in Charleston, South Carolina. What ELSE can she do but don a green waistcoat-and skirt ensemble, tuck her silver blonde hair into the matching green turban, and traipse over by the gigolo's law office, to pretend she is the new temp secretary and find the Seekret, Incriminating Files evidencing Gigolo's Evil Swindling Schemes against her aunt, which he has been undoubtedly keeping neatly in his filing cabinet. Alas, I did not find out if she was successful as I was overcome with the strong urge to abandon the book at this point...

Lisa believes that Slade Blackwell is systematically embezzling her aunt’s money. She needs proof. Luckily, she knows how to get it. The only problem? She must wear a disguise and adopt a different role. And the deeper she delves, the harder it will become for her to adjust her real life to the other—not to mention her burgeoning feelings for Slade.

This is more of a comment about the author. I’ve been re-reading all of Janet Dailey’s “The Americana series” and with very few exceptions the novels end extremely abruptly. Good stories, good chemistry between the couple, good plot points…then it ends! Like flat soda, good taste, no bubbles!

Nice little novel set in South Carolina. Janet Dailey's primary character, Lisa, a young television producer, is taking her first vacation in several years. She decides to visit her elderly aunt in the low country of South Carolina. But, she has an ulterior motivation as well. She wants to save her aunt from a supposedly criminal investment manager. In trying to expose him, she pretends to be someone else. She is unable to complete her mission. The ensuing story shows off Dailey's penchant for misdirection and unique story-telling ability.
I enjoyed the story and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read with interesting characters and a little bit of discrete deception. The hallmarks of Dailey's writing.

Lisa thought the worst of Slade long before actually meeting him. She though he was playing her aunt a fool. Coincidence gave her a golden opportunity to find a proof that might discriminate him in the eyes of aunt when she went to face him with her accusations and he mistook her for his old secretary's replacement.
I disagree with the other reviewers. I think this vintage novel of Janet Dailey was delightful to read. It is quite a good pass-time book. :)

I normally don’t read romance novels. Except Betty Neels, whom I adore. So I thought, maybe I’m missing something, maybe I just like simple easy romance. So I read this one. Unfortunately it was very stupid so that puts an end to it. Lol.

Awful! Don't waste your time unless you're interested in revisiting the style of the 50s.
