We like Alistair. The stories are simple but clever. And the illustrations are fun.

Alistair loves the water. What's a kid going to do when he loves the water so much and must know more about it---make a submarine of course. Then the adventure begins....

I wanted to buy this book so I could see the illustration of Alistair's bedroom. I remembered his bedroom as having many shelves filled with aquariums, terrariums, and jars with fish, reptiles and amphibians, and bugs in them.

Another quirky fantasy adventure about the unflappable and studious Alistair Grittle. This time Alistair is exploring the pond close to his home and of course, he builds a submarine for his explorations. With the submarine, Alistair meets the frog people and the Gooze. The book's punchline on the last page is especially amusing. An entertaining picture book for readers who have enjoyed Sadler's Alistair stories and/or appreciate humorous sci-fi picture books.

2* art
3* story
This is like sci-fi for preschoolers. And fun! Lots of imagination. Squirt tells stories on this line himself.

April 16, 2019Alistair is a funny story about an odd kid who was very smart and liked to collect things from the pond by his house. Alistair built himself a submarine so that he could adventure underwater. When he went underwater he discovered different creatures and a cavern. In the cavern he discovered frog people down deep in the cavern who were being terrorized by the goose. Alistair helped the frog people from the goose and returned back to his pond. I like this book as child because it would never happen in real life but it was so fun to read about. I remember thinking that the frog people were funny and interesting to read about. I would keep this book in my classroom library if I were a first grade teacher. This kind of of book allows students to go wild with their imagination. After reading this book kids could talk about their hobbies and what they might find if they keep looking or learning.
